Health & Safety in Employment Act:
The Health and Safety in Employment Act outlines responsibilities and expectations for employers
and employees in the prevention of harm to people while at work.
Spotless has a responsibility to ensure their employees are kept safe while working at our
clients sites

The challenge to Spotless is how we ensure our employees are provided with the practical skills training they require to carry out their work in a
safe manner
While working on our clients sites, our employees often utilise a mixture of our own systems and our
clients systems.
The challenge to Spotless:

How it all works for employees;Specifically relating to the work we carry out at Hospitals throughout
New Zealand, moving and handling materials and patients is a large part of a Spotless employees role
Moving and handling training and toolbox meetings are in place for employees
Orderlies attend DHB practical patient moving training upon induction
This practical training incorporates the LITEN up concept;LoadIndividualTaskEnvironment

Refreshing the Liten up programme; How could we keep the practical moving and handling training top of
mind with our employees while working on our clients sites?
We needed a format that would be;
• carried out by supervisors and orderlies at their meetings
• quick to carry out• complements the DHB practical LITEN up training but
has extra information sitting behind these topics• fits with our Safety@Spotless format for toolbox topics
and take 5 concept
