Check that you have all your PPE (personal protective equipment) fire

and first aid gear, felling aids wedges, hammer, axe, spare bar and at least

1 spare chain, signage and spare saw.

Use the felling line on the chainsaw to set the direction

and make the first cut

Make sure both cuts are level.

let the chainsaw do the work

If there are overcuts, clean out the scarf

Clean, level scarf a 1/4 to a 1/3 the diameter of the tree

Double check the direction, before you start the felling cut.

Place your hammer or a wedge in the centre of the scarf

Make the felling cut, 10% of the diameter of the tree, above the

bottom cut of the scarf, and level

Continue with the felling cut, as you get close to setting the hinge,

keep an eye out for movement. The felling cut will start to open, look

straight up the stem it should be moving forward, if it doesn’t, place a

wedge in the felling cut and drive it until firm. Set the hinge and

switch chainsaw off and drive wedge until the tree releases.
