Funding Opportunities

National AIDS Fund - The National AIDS Fund, with support from the FordFoundation, has announced the opportunity for grant support through its SouthernREACH (Regional Expansion of Access and Capacity to Address HIV/AIDS)grantmaking initiative. The overall goal of this initiative is to protect and advancethe health, human rights, and dignity of persons most affected by HIV/AIDS in theSouthern United States. Funding will support strategic HIV/AIDS policy andadvocacy activities led by community-based organizations, advocacy coalitions,and other allies with public policy and advocacy experience. Awards are up to$100,00, along with consideration for technical assistance, for a one-year grantperiod.

Deadline: October 15, 2010

State Farm Good Neighbor Service Learning Grants - State Farm hasteamed with Youth Service America to offer grants of up to $1,000 for youth-ledservice-learning initiatives in all 50 states. Eligible programs will engage youth inservice-learning, an effective teaching and learning strategy that promotes studentlearning, academic achievement, workplace readiness, and healthycommunities.State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grants encouragesemester-long projects that launch on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service(January 17, 2011) and culminate on Global Youth Service Day (April 15-17,2011). Eligible candidates include teachers, service-learning coordinators andstudents in a public school, or staff and youth in a community-based organizationworking with a public school.

Deadline: October 15, 2010

Recess Rocks: Program against Childhood Obesity – In recognition ofSeptember as National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, The CommunityHealth Center, Inc. has launched the national Recess Rocks campaign. TheRecess Rocks program brings fun, creative movement into schools to increasestudents’ activity levels and is just one of CHC’s many programs to help preventand reverse obesity. It has proven to be a successful, low-cost way to bringadditional physical activity into students’ lives.

Trident Literacy Association Celebrity Waiters Event – The TridentLiteracy Association will hold its first annual Celebrity Waiters Event at noon onFriday, October 29 at the Charleston Marriott Hotel, located at 170 LockwoodBoulevard in Charleston. A partial list of celebrities: Ken Burger from the Post &Courier, Carolyn Murray from Channel 2, Mike Veeck from the CharlestonRiverDogs, players from the Charleston RiverDogs, Battery, and Stingrays, CoachBobby Cremins from the College of Charleston, Kathleen Wilson of CharlestonCity Council, Mickey Bakst of Charleston Grille, Sean Brock of McCrady’s, StateRepresentatives Mike Rose and Robert Brown, Rick Rush from Y 102.5, andWarren Peper as Master of Ceremonies. This will be a really fun event, with aChinese auction and more!

Corporate tables are $1,000.00 for a table of ten, individual tickets are $50.00 perperson. Now accepting donations for the Chinese auction.
