Senate• 2 senators from each class• 2 senators from each school• Elected in September– Gives freshmen the opportunity to run

for schools• Senate provides oversight of the

Executive• The successor to the General

Assembly• Passes bills (require president

signature) and resolutions

Secretary• Elected in April, assume office in May– Naturally limits officers to

upperclassmen– President and Vice President elected on

a joint ticket• The branch that makes things

President• Head of CUA Student Government• Successor to the office of Speaker• Sets vision for student government• Signs bills from the Senate• Fills vacancies, makes university

appointments• Cabinet– President creates and fills positions– Replaces “task forces”; president can

Vice President• Assumes office in the event of a

vacancy in the presidency• Presides over the Senate• May initiate other projects

Treasurer• Successor to the office of SFAB Director• Leads the Treasury Board– 8 appointed directors with the Treasurer

(votes in cases of ties) and the President (non-voting)

– Treasury Board appointed by the entire Executive. All campus-wide officers must agree on membership. Confirmed by outgoing Senate.

– Allocates student fee to student organizations

• Senate shall allocate to Executive– Senate shall be issued a “block grant”

like club sports and campus ministry– Senate determines procedures for

Next Steps• Constitutional Commission meeting tonight

to approve proposed constitution• Student body to vote on Tuesday, Jan. 20th

– Same day as Class of 2016 special election• Results posted that night on saga.cua.edu• If not approved, the process is over• If approved, Constitutional Commission will

draft bylaws, procedures, and prepare university for new system
