For a normal and trained body which is correctly fed, also the protein stores are usual-ly sufficient for the energy demand during per-formance. Only when carbohydrate depletion occurs - that is to say when muscular glycogen stores are con-sumed - a strong protein catabolism of the mu-scular tissue may take place. On the contrary, carbohydrate energy stores are key factors for good results and carbohydrates available in mu-scles and blood are strictly linked to the onset of fatigue.
