Site Data :

STP Capacity : 350 KLD

STP Area & Height : 300 m² x 6.0 m

AHU – Air flow : 19,000 cfm (32,200 m3/hr)

Air Flow : Intermittent [Automatic]

AHU Duct Size & Length : 600 x 600 mm x 20 m

Air Changes per Hour : 18 - 20 nos.

Present Scenario :Sewage Collection Tank & STP Room:

Raw sewage is entering the raw sewage collection tank & being

treated by sewage treatment plant. Since STP is in basement area,

appropriate ventilation is provided. Where fresh air is fed from

ground level & exhaust air is being exhausted in car park area.

Objective :

1. Prevent foul sewage odor to spread in car park area & subsequently

to surrounding receiving atmosphere.

2. Destroy odor causing gases coming from STP room.

Offered Solution & Technology :

AHU duct air ozonation.

Ozone is a very strong oxidizing agent.

All foul odor generated from sewage are organic in nature, and can very

easily be oxidized (destroyed) by ozone. After oxidation by products does not cause objectionable odor & are safe

to dispose in surrounding air. Crucial part of the solution is to trap the foul odor & efficiently mix with

ozone gas to oxidize.

Implementation :

Safety First : Most Important :

If required Air ozone sensors & monitors are available.

Ozone sensors can be interlocked with ozone production & controlled ozone level.

System can be pre-set for ozone level

Page 10: Case study - The Capital - STP exhaust air AHU ozonation

Operation & Maintenance :

Ozonator is fully electrical operated.

Ozonator should be operated 24 x 7

For flawless operation three ozonators are operated alternately.

(2 w +1S)

Routine maintenance frequency is once in months

Break-down repair/maintenance will be attained in 48 hrs.

(Under this situation, there is a provision of one standby unit)

Consumables & replacements :

Consumables : Electricity Power - 2,000 watts

Electrical consumption : 2.0 kw x 24 hrs = 48 kw-hr

= 48 units/day x 10/- (rate per unit)

= 480 /- per day

Replacements:

Ozone cell : 2 – 2 ½ yrs : Rs. 20,000/=

Molecular sieves : 1 ½ - 2 yrs : Rs. 15,000/=

STP Odor & Ozone Chemistry : In an aqueous solution, however, two competing simultaneous reactions occur, one to produce elemental sulfur,

and one to produce sulfuric acid:H2S + O3 → S + O2 + H2O3 H2S + 4 O3 → 3 H2SO4

Ozone also oxidizes nitric oxide to nitrogen dioxide:NO + O3 → NO2 + O2

This reaction is accompanied by chemiluminescence. The NO2 can be further oxidized:NO2 + O3 → NO3 + O2

Ozone does not react with ammonium salts, but it oxidizes ammonia to ammonium nitrate:2 NH3 + 4 O3 → NH4NO3 + 4 O2 + H2O

Ozone reacts with carbon to form carbon dioxide, even at room temperature:C + 2 O3 → CO2 + 2 O2

Ozone reacts with methane to form carbon dioxide, even at room temperature:3 CH4 + 4 O3 → 3 CO2 + 6 H2O
