Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil,Barbosa-Lima beganplaying the guitar at theage of 7. He studied withIsaias Savio and AndresSegovia and has taken theinstrument to new levels.Carlos’ first concert withLACCS was entitled“Gentle Genius of theGuitar”, held at theWigmore Hall on 16thOctober 1989, a concertgiven in the presence ofH.E. Senhor SynesioSampaio Goes Filho, thenAmbassador of theEmbassy of Brazil.

Other memorableperformances were theconcerts given with theWren Orchestra, withguests Laurindo Almeidaand Thiago de Mello, (3rdApril 1992) St. John’sSmith Square, A Tribute toLaurindo Almeida withguest Charlie Byrd (28thMay 1996), Purcell Room,SBC, The Best of BrazilianMusic with the EnglishChamber Orchestra,soloist CBL, conducted byNelson Nirenberg (5thDecember 1997), SJSS,Saudade do Brasil, againwith the ECO, soloistCBL, conducted by SimonWright (11th May 2004),QEH, just to mentionsome of them. Now weare celebrating his 50years on the stage.
