  • Capricorn Full Moon

  • Why are we here? The time of the full moon is a time of celebration. We celebrate the energy of the SUN.The reason is that when the Moon is full it is the furthest from the Sun, thus the Suns energy is the strongest. Thus we celebrate the energy of the Sun through meditation and reflection.

  • All is Energy! For those of you who are not familiar with esoteric philosophy or do not know it well I will remind you that all is energy. Thus you should simply relax and try to feel the energy rather then concern yourself with understanding everything.During the lecture you can ask questions or make comments. After the meditation you may also ask questions.

  • Capricorn PresentationThe Sign of CapricornThe Labour of Hercules in CapricornThe Capricorn Full Moon Chart- Short Break -Meditation

  • The Sign of Capricorn

  • Which sign is the Sun in?The Sun is in Capricorn. And which sign is the Moon in?The Moon is in Cancer.

  • Why should you learn aboutCapricorn if you are not one?You may have another planet - or the Moon in Capricorn.Even if you do not the Capricorn energy will still affect you - and, perhaps, as importantly those around you.If you are a Capricorn you may not display all of the characteristics of Capricorn as you have other planets and energies which also affect you.

  • What mode isCapricorn associated with?

  • Cardinal

  • What do we know about the Cardinal mode?Associated with starting things, initiating things or being enterprising.Capricorn projects in a practical, down to earth manner. It takes action based on practical need, and success.

  • What element isCapricorn associated with?

  • Earth

  • What do we know about Earth?organized and predictablepossessed and ownedattainable

  • What else about Earth?cautious, premeditative, conventional and dependablebuilders

  • So what happens when we put the mode of cardinal together with the element of earth?

  • We get Capricorn! As the tenth sign of the zodiac, Capricorn represents the tenth stage in the evolution of man and his place in the universe. Having gained power and control through emotions and knowledge in Scorpio and Sagittarius, Capricorn seeks control by virtue of authority. All authority is given its control by rules and regulations which civilized society accepts and with which they must comply in order to progress. For all their concern with legality or the propriety of things, Capricorns can be guilty of making or enforcing rules they themselves do not follow. Blinded by their own ambition, and obsessed with their goals, they adopt the philosophy that the end justifies the means.

  • And More Capricorn EnergyWanting to be admired and respected, they do not want to appear weak or ineffective. This false pride makes it hard for them to admit when they are wrong or to ask others for help. Though they aggressively compete for what they want with apparent sureness, they harbor inner lack of confidence which makes them defensive. Viewing insecurity and fear as weaknesses, they attempt to hide such feelings, making it hard for others to get close to them. As children they have unusual maturity. They are in a hurry to participate in the adult world and often get along better with older children and adults than with their peers.

  • CapricornCapricorns are doers.By nature they are executives and managers. They aspire to positions of power and authority.Though they aggressively compete for what they want with apparent sureness, they harbor inner lack of confidence which makes them defensive.

  • Capricorns react to what they experience by assessing its possible worth. Before they take physical action, before they sort out their emotional involvement, and before they reason it out intellectually, they must ascertain what tangible advantages are to be gained from the experience. They have a good sense of humor but will not tolerate being ridiculed or teased on a personal level.

  • Capricorns Astrological SymbolCapricorn is represented by a creature (Capricornus) that is half fish, half goat. Capricornus has been recognized as a goat since Babylonian and Chaldean times. Usually, it is depicted as a goat with a fish tail, which might relate to a story about the god Pan. Pan, fleeing a monster called Typhon, jumped into the river Nile. The part of him that was below water turned into a fish, while the rest of him above water, stayed as a goat.(This is the Greek version.)

  • Capricorns Constellation

  • Capricorns Constellation

  • Capricorns Astrological GlyphThe glyph for Capricorn is a little more intricate than most. The V is thought to depict the goats beard; and the tail is that of a fish.

  • The Capricorn MythEa (or Oannes or Dagon) Father

  • EaThe mythology of Capricorn began even before the time of the Greeks. The seagoat is thought to be Ea, a mighty Babylonian god who lived in the ocean. He came out by day to watch the land, returning to the sea every night. Ea wore a cloak designed as a fishs skin, complete with head and tail. One of his many names was Antelope of the Seas. A good description of a fish tailed goat? He is one of the worlds great culture initiates, who rose from the oceans to teach wisdom to land-dwelling man.Another description has Ea with his lower half that of a fish while his head and torso were that of a goat.

  • Ea (also known as Oannes or Dagon)Ea or Oannes or Dagon was a fish god who imparted great knowledge to the people. He taught them how to build cities. He also taught them math and geometric laws, and was credited with giving them all the knowledge that they would ever receive. At night, he would go back into the sea to spend the night, because he was amphibious. He had the head of a man; covered by the head of a fish, and had the legs and feet of a man and the torso of a man, but was covered by the scales and tail of a fish. -Berossus; from ancient fragment (Isaac Preston Cory)

  • As an asideThe priests of Dagon wore the same mitre hat that was worn by Cybele. It looked like the open mouth of a fish -propped upon the priestshead.DAGON is mentioned in the Biblein at least 8 places -Joshua 19:27Judges 16:231Samuel 5:2,3,4,5,71Chronicles 10:10

  • How does this myth relate to the Capricorn characteristics?Capricorns tend to be profound thinkers. To them life is a serious business, and the need to be in control of it is paramount. They are seekers after knowledge and wisdom. Rational, logical and clearheaded, they have excellent concentration, and delight in all forms of debate.

  • FatherWhich sign represents Mother?CancerAnd which sign is opposite of Cancer?Capricorn

  • FatherWhat does Father mean to you?Father means more than just Dad.You often find that the early life of the goat is heavily marked by a difficult or intense or highly complicated relationship with the father. Many Capricorns are busy rebelling against the father during that time, or trying to live up to his expectations. It seems that only in adulthood does Capricorn realize that he or she must in some deep sense become Father himself or herself.

  • Well now mention some of the challenges of Capricorns. Remember though we are talking about the energy of Capricorn and there are many types of energy.

  • The Exoteric and Esoteric Ruler is SaturnWhen Saturn, exoteric and esoteric ruler of Capricorn, is in the chart, patience lays practical foundations. Lilith in Capricorn causes interruptions and frustrations along the uphill climb toward outer success. Esoterically, Saturn is capable of soul service for humanity. Having gained the knowledge that set him free, he then uses his wisdom to supply the needs of others.

  • The Hierarchical Ruler is VenusIn the sign Capricorn man decides his fate. Venus, the hierarchical ruler of the sign, represents the principal of discriminating mind, and it is by means of conscious, intelligent decision that we release ourselves from karmic patterns and the cycle of rebirth.

  • Ray Rulers for Capricorn Ray 1 - provides the necessary will. Ray 3 - the one-pointed disciple becomes the initiate. Ray 7 - this Capricornian energy produces initiation and the overcoming of materialism.

  • The Labours of Hercules

  • The Labours of HerculesThe Labours of Hercules is a book by Alice Bailey written in 1936 wherein Hercules needs to complete 12 tasks one in each sign. Each sign represents a different aspect of mans development. This the story of the individual Christ, crucified upon the cross of matter, and incarnated in each human being, God, incarnate in matter.

  • The Labour in CapricornA vision appears before Hercules inner eye: he sees Prometheus in Hades, shackled to a rock and groaning as if his heart would break. A fierce vulture pecks continually at his liver, but his cries for help echo in vain in the desolation, to be swallowed up by the wind. Prometheus stole fire from heaven but, being immortal, cannot die from this punishment. Hercules is asked to rescue him from his plight.

  • Hercules completes his taskDownward into the binding worlds of form and darkness Hercules travels, at last entering Hades and finding his way through labyrinthine paths to the king of the underworld who demands to know what a living mortal is doing in his realms. When he learns that Hercules seeks to free Prometheus, the king warns that the way is guarded by Cerberus, a monstrous dog with three great heads, each coiled about with serpents. If, however, he can conquer it with his bare hands, he may unbind Prometheus. The triple-headed dog, with its piercing bark, quickly attacks Hercules, and, grasping its primary throat, he holds it in his vice-like grip until its strength subsides. He then breaks Prometheus chains and sets him free.

  • Interpretation of the mythIn the myth, Hercules descends into Hell in order to release light into the darkest regions of earth. In this we can see the lifting of humanity into a clearer awareness of spiritual reality as well as Christs descent into hell - carrying release for those to be found there. Paradoxically, Capricorn is predominantly associated with the mountaintop experience. At the foot of the mountain, the goat, the materialist finds nourishment in arid places. On the way up the mountain, the scapegoat searches for the flowers of attained desire, each with its own thorn of satiety and disillusionment. At the summit, the sacred goat beholds the vision and the initiate appears.

  • Further InterpretationIn previous labours, Hercules tasks have been focused mainly upon individual development and liberation from the thraldom of matter but, from Capricorn onward, his work takes on a universal perspective, embracing the idea of service to the Whole, and culminating in the World Saviour in Pisces. He descends the mountaintop to join a needy humanity again, bringing them light and release.

  • We can view this as the energy of earth - cautious, premeditative, conventional and dependable - (Capricorn) on the level of the personality and water - impressionable and reflective - (Cancer) on the level of the emotions looking at the elements. Both are cardinal signs which are associated with starting things.

  • Moon trine Jupiter indicates those who get away with a lot. They can talk themselves into or out of any situation. Surrounded by, perhaps even responsible for scandal or criminal activities, they may be the only one to escape the consequences. Wastefulness, laziness, exaggeration and taking too much for granted are all potential traits accorded to this aspect, but so are great talent, genius, spirituality, and a bent for politics.

  • Sun sextile Jupiter is an indication of those who rarely have to search for opportunities to meet others who will help them. They just seem to have an uncanny ability to wander into the right situation with the right people at the right time. The opportunities they are given are usually learning situations, chances to expand their intellectual horizons or promote their thoughts and ideas.

  • Sun sextile Uranus indicates that it is difficult for these individuals to create or to maneuver their own opportunities to get ahead. They must learn instead to remain constantly alert and ready to take advantage of whatever comes their way, since these occurrences are unpredictable, appearing suddenly and often from totally unexpected sources.Moon trine Uranus indicates those with remarkable poise, ability to handle many difficult or unusual situations with understanding and aplomb. Intellectually curious and keenly intelligent, these egalitarian individuals can emotionally identify with people everywhere and from all levels of society. Emotional attachments may be unpredictable and erratic but rewarding and unique sources of their personal growth.

  • Jupiter conjunct Uranus offers individuals (both privately and as part of a generation) a society that is in one stage of rebellion or another; depending on the times, it may affect fashions, religion, politics, or education and philosophy. Their lives may be heavily influenced by war, the status quo turned upside down, and the introduction of a new order and logic in society.

[Click] You may have another planet - or the Moon in Capricorn.

[Click] Even if you do not the Capricorn energy will still affect you - and, perhaps, as importantly those around you.

[Click] I should also mention that if you are a Capricorn that you may not display all of the characteristics of Capricorn as you have other planets and energies which also affect you.*What are the 3 modes? Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable*The word "cardinal" comes from the French "cardo" meaning a hinge, that on which something turns. It is the most important part. The cardinal directions are the north, south, east and west. They are the times when the seasons change. Aries for Spring; Cancer for Summer; Libra for Autumn; and Capricorn for Winter. They therefore are times for a new beginning.

In Astrology, the cardinal signs are the first, fourth, seventh and tenth (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn). These signs are characterised by enterprise, or starting things.

Sometimes Aries and Libra are called equinox signs, and Cancer and Capricorn are called solstice signs. Equinoxes are times of perfect balance between day and night (day and night are 12 hours long). The solstice times are the times of the longest day (Cancer) and the longest night (Capricorn).

Aries and Libra are times of balance, but also times of abrupt change. Cancer and Capricorn are times of extremes.*The cardinal signs are [click] associated with starting things, initiating things or being "enterprising. They are forceful and aggressive and have the will to accomplish something, often something new. They project into the world. They are creative in the sense that they cause things and start things.

[click] Capricorn projects in a practical, down to earth manner. It takes action based on practical need, and success. What are the four elements? Fire, Earth, Air, Water***The earth element represents matter. Everything in the universe is made of matter. You can touch what exists and often see or hear it. Earth is real and objective because it is perceivable by the five senses. Everything that exists in the universe is either earth or water. For anything to manifest, it must contain the elements earth or water.

Of all the elements, the earth element is the most easy to confine and capture, to hold in the hand. It is rigid, fixed and stable. Anything that is [click] attainable is "down to earth" and not "airy fairy", or "high in the sky". Archetypal earth is real, heavy, and the basis of all achievement. It is the foundation of all that is. Like the real earth, it is fixed, stable, [click] organized and predictable.

Of all the elements, it is the earth that can be [click] possessed and owned. It provides a solid basis for our existence (dependable and stable), yet it can rise only so far. And the higher it rises (a bolder on a mountain), the farther it has to fall, making it cautious. Unlike the other elements, it cannot easily rise and almost never disappears.*

Earthy people are, therefore, [click] cautious, premeditative, conventional and dependable. They live by a practical, common-sense code and seek physical wellbeing rather than spiritual enlightenment, or to rise high. The expression "down to earth" sums them up. They are responsible, methodical, and concerned with detail. Children of the earth element are therefore well suited to life on this planet. They are realistic, [click] builders and hard workers. They are pragmatic, materialistic and reductionist - they reduce everything to what is practical, useful and observable. They particularly value skills and abilities. Earth types are successful business people in the sense that they can stably maintain things. While the fiery type is an innovator, the earth type is cautious and practical, being more interested in established business activities than new innovative ones. Imagination to an earth type is of realistic representations of the five senses (or a few of them). They think about what is, rather than what might be. In a way, they lack imagination. They can be too fixed to rules, regulations and procedures.*[Just wait a little while. Encourage ideas.]

***[click] Capricorns are doers. They set out to accomplish things and are determined to succeed one way or another. [click] By nature they are executives and managers. Ambitious, pragmatic, and goal-oriented, they learn how to get things done. The mountain goat is an appropriate astrological symbol for this sign since a sure-footed, methodical climb to the top is the main goal of Capricorn individuals. [click] They aspire to positions of power and authority, and they admire others who attain such positions. Initiative and willingness to accept responsibilities are keys to their success. Wanting to be admired and respected, they do not want to appear weak or ineffective. This false pride makes it hard for them to admit when they are wrong or to ask others for help. [click] Though they aggressively compete for what they want with apparent sureness, they harbor inner lack of confidence which makes them defensive. Viewing insecurity and fear as weaknesses, they attempt to hide such feelings, making it hard for others to get close to them. As children they have unusual maturity. They are in a hurry to participate in the adult world and often get along better with older children and adults than with their peers.

What is the mode for Capricorn? Does this therefore make sense?*Thinking of the elements. What are the other Earth signs? [Answer: Taurus and Virgo.] Taurus reacts by assessing its possible worth. Remember that Earth is associated with value. Virgo reacts to what they experience by assessing its practical worth.. So how would Capricorn react?

[click] Capricorns react to what they experience by assessing its possible worth. [click] Before they take physical action, before they sort out their emotional involvement, and before they reason it out intellectually, they must ascertain what tangible advantages are to be gained from the experience. They gladly work long and hard if it means getting what or who they want. They can be very lazy if they see no sense in working, or if they can achieve the same goals in a less strenuous manner. (click) They have a good sense of humor but will not tolerate being ridiculed or teased on a personal level. Those who set out to so abuse a Capricorn, will soon learn the error of their ways.****[click]*[Click] Ea (or Oannes or Dagon) [Click] Father***DAGON or OANNES - "He would go back into the sea to spend the night, because he was amphibious. He had the head of a man; covered by the head of a fish, and had the legs and feet of a man and the torso of a man, but was covered by the scales and tail of a fish. "-Berossus; from ancient fragments (Isaac Preston Cory)***Farther is a pretty complex thing. [click][click] Father means more than just Dad. Dad enters into it, certainly. [click] You often find that the early life of the goat is heavily marked - sometimes downright scarred - by a difficult or intense or highly complicated relationship with the father.Sometimes this means the loss of the father, and the incurring of responsibilities of the fatherly kind early in life. Sometimes Capricorn has a stern father, or an aloof one, or a weak, or unstable one.Father is a mystery and a challenge and often a problem to be solved. This is why the first thirty years of Capricorn's life are often difficult. [click]Many Capricorns are busy rebelling against the father during that time, or trying to live up to his expectations.[click] It seems that only in adulthood does Capricorn - man or woman - realize that he or she must in some deep sense become Father himself or herself. The qualities of strength, control, will, protectiveness, stability are all things which can't be found in somebody else. These qualities, which are qualities associated with the symbol of Father, have to be built inside, the long, hard, slow way*What are some types of energy? One energy is certainly the sun sign we are born in, but there are many other energies. Some of these would be the the other astrological elements, our karmic history, our rays, our heritage, etc. And then to confuse the issue more there is the energies of the transiting and progressed planets.

There is no best or worse energy.

There is no good or bad energy - as there are not good or bad tools.

In astrology we refer (or should refer) to the energies associated with planets, houses, signs, and the relationships between them as non-challenging or challenging. The main challenge, as with each of the astrology energies, is to use the energies in a positive way. To think above the belt. To be the enlightened being. To turn the challenging aspects into non-challenging ones.

*******The Labours of Hercules was written in 1936 by Alice Bailey wherein Hercules needs to complete 12 tasks one in each sign.

Each sign represents a different aspect of mans development.

This is the story of the individual Christ, crucified upon the cross of matter, and incarnated in each human being, God, incarnate in matter.*******Since the full moon is really the energy for earth the next month and thus the houses should not be used I have made this with the GMT time and the Wesak Valley in Western China as the longitude, latitude.

Since Im not an astrologer were going to do this a bit different. Ill read a fairly standard, regular, individual natal chart definition of how the energies work and then as a group we will discuss how these energies might work for humankind and earth itself.

We will decide which aspects to discuss based on how close an aspect is as this is an indication of how powerful the aspect is.

*This is a table showing the major aspects between the planets and the degree to which they are exact. For example [click] the Sun/Moon are in opposition (180 apart) exactly, e.g., 00 from being exact. This is by definition of a full moon.

What we are going to do is look at those major aspects which are closest to being exact.

We will not look at which houses the planets are in. Why not? [Wait for answers.]

In a regular horoscope the houses are based on the location of the person or event. Thus if two people were born at exactly the same time, but at opposite longitudes their houses would be the exact opposite. But whats the location for the whole world? Its everywhere so we cannot use houses.

Whats the closest aspect? [Wait] [Click]*Sun opposition Moon. Exactly 180 by definition. [click]

What is the energy of the Sun? (Wait) The Sun is our ego. It is also our "adult"-- the part of us that censors our "inner child", that reasons things out, and makes final decisions. It can also be viewed as our present.

And the energy of the Moon? (Wait) The Moon represents our deepest personal needs, our basic habits and reactions, and our unconscious. It can also be seen as our past.

And the opposition? Oppositions represent a state of divided loyalties. Inner discontent, uncertainty, and insecurity can be a result.

So how do we view this? [Click]

How can we view these energies as relating to the whole world?*What is the next closest aspect? [Wait for answer, then click.]

We have the Moon Trine Jupiter 0 degree and 2 minutes from exact.*Moon trine Jupiter.

We just discussed the Moon, but what it the energy of Jupiter? [Wait] Jupiter has generally been associated with good luck and bounty. Optimism and growth (including mental and spiritual growth) come under its rule. On the up side, Jupiter is associated with a sense of humor, good will, and mercy. The more negative manifestations of Jupiter include blind optimism, excess, and overindulgence. Irresponsibility that results from blind optimism, not ill will, can be displayed.

And what is a trine? [Wait] Planets in trine support each other. Trines, by nature, are accepting. They allow us to accept others, ourselves, and situations. The talents that trines offer a native are so natural that they are almost unconscious.

Heres a standard definition for a person. [click]

How can we view these energies as relating to the whole world?*What is the next closest aspect? [Wait for answer, then click.]

We have Sun sextile Jupiter 0 degrees and 3 minutes from exact.*Sun sextile Jupiter.

We discussed the Sun and Jupiter, but what it the energy of a sextile? [Wait]

The sextile is often read quite like a trine, although there is a distinction between the two aspects. Sextiles, like trines, point to some talent and ease. However, sextiles have a little more "oomph" to them. While trines come so naturally to people that they might have to be reminded of their own talents or tendencies, sextiles are a little more overt to the native. These are the talents that people appreciate in themselves. Sextiles are communicative and relationship-friendly aspects.

Heres a definition for an individual. [Click]

Sounds pretty good. How can we view these energies as relating to the whole world?

*What is the next closest aspect not counting the nodes? [Wait for answer, then click.]

Actually we have two. We have Sun sextile Uranus and Moon trine Uranus. Both are 1 degree and 37 minutes from exact.*Sun sextile Uranus. Moon trine Uranus. We have discusses the Sun, Moon, sextile, and trine; but what of Uranus? What energy does Uranus have? [Wait]

In Astrology, the energies of Uranus are electric and crammed with change. Uranus is forward-looking. It balks at tradition, and celebrates originality and individuality. Uranus is associated with technology, innovation, discovery, and all that is progressive.

On the up side, Uranus is associated with enlightenment, progressiveness, objectivity, novelty, and ingenuity. Negative expression of Uranus is rebelliousness without a cause and irresponsibility.

Heres a definition for an individual with the Sun sextile Uranus. [Click] How does this relate to the world?

Heres a definition for an individual with the Moon trine Uranus. [Click] How does this relate to the world?*What is the next closest aspect? [Wait for answer, then click.]

We have Jupiter conjunct Uranus at 1 degree 44 minute from exact.*Jupiter conjunct Uranus.

We have discussed Jupiter and Uranus, but what is the energy of a conjunction? [Wait]

Planets and points that form a conjunction are energies that are united. They are blended; therefore, they act together. The closer they are to conjunction, the more subjective these combined energies are. They don't stand alone, and they have a difficult time truly acknowledging each other as distinct or separate. In effect, conjunctions can be a blind spot.

Here is a definition for an individual. [Click]
