Precautions

Before using the camera for an important event such as a wedding,be sure to take test shots to make sure the camera operatesproperly.EOS cameras have a lens mount fitted with electronic contacts fordedicated operation (autofocusing, exposure control, etc.) with EFlenses. Using a non-EF lens with an EOS camera may not result inproper camera or lens operation. Also, the warranty does not cover any camera malfunction ordamage occurring with the use of non-Canon accessories.

Attaching the Neck Strap

After insert ing the end of the neckstrap through the eyelet, insert the endthrough the clasp and under the outerstrap as shown in the figure. Pull thestrap to make sure it does not slip off.

2. Do not leave the camera in places prone to excessive heat such as ina car on a sunny day. Excessive heat can cause the camera tomalfunction.

3 . The camera con ta ins h igh -vo l t age c i r cu i t r y . Neve r a t t emp t t odisassemble the camera yourself.

4. Use only a blower brush to remove any dust on the lens or in the fi lmcompartment. Do not use a cleaner containing an organic solvent toclean the camera body or lens. For stubborn dirt, consult your nearestCanon Service Center.

5. lf the camera is not to be used for an extended period, remove thebattery. Store the camera in a well-venti lated, cool, dry place. Duringthe storage period, release the shutter a few times once in a while.

6 . Avo id s to r i ng t he camera i n a l abo ra to ry , cab ine t , e t c . , whe recorrosive chemicals are present.

Handling Precautions

Lithium Battery

The camera operates on one 2CR5 lithium battery. Check the batterylevel in the following cases:1. After replacing the battery.2. After the camera has not been used for an extended period.3. The shutter does not release.4. The camera is being used in a low{emperature environment.5. Also note the following:

. Before install ing the battery, wipe the battery contacts to removef ingerpr ints and d i r t . This is to prevent faul ty connect ions andcorrosion.

. Never disassemble or recharge the battery. Also, never store thebat tery in h igh- temperature p laces or shor t c i rcu i t the bat terycontacts or toss the battery into a fire.

. Although the battery works well under low temperatures, batteryperformance may suffer slightly at freezing temperatures. In such acase, keep a spare battery warm in a pocket, etc., and use andwarm the batteries alternatelv.

Low Battery Power

When only the c: symbol blinks on the LCD panel, a picture can sti l l betaken at the proper exposure. However, there may not be enough batterypower to advance and rewind the fi lm automatically. Replace with a newbattery.

Lens

To avoid get t ing the lens sur face and e lect ronic contacts scratched, attach the rear lens cap to the detached lens or always put down the lenswith the rear end up.

One-Shot AFThis mode is suited for sti l l subjects. Since the picture cannot be takenunless the subject is focused, this mode helps prevent out-of{ocus shots.Pressing the shutter button halfway activates the autofocus. When theactive focusing point achieves focus, it f lashes in red and the in-focusindicator l ights in the viewfinder. The exposure is also set when focus isachieved.

With Eye-Controlled Autofocus, you select the desired focusing point justby looking at it. The camera detects your eye movement and instantlysenses which focusing point your eye is looking at and focuses at thatpoint. Vll. E-TTL Auto Flash System with CanonSpeedlite 380EX

With Canon Speedlite 380EX, you can use the new E-TTL (Evaluative-Through-The-Lens) auto flash system which enables FP (Focal-Plane)flash for high-speed sync and synchronization with all shutter speeds andFE (flash exposure) lock. When using Speedlite 380EX, refer to the Speedlite's Instructions.

E-TTL Auto Flash System Features

<l

Unl ike the A-TTL and TTL auto f lashsystems which used a mul t ip le-zonef l ash me te r i ng senso r t o con t ro l t hef lash exposure, the E-TTL auto f lashsys tem uses the camera ' s me te r i ngsensor for normal evaluative meteringa n d c o n t r o l s t h e f l a s h e x o o s u r eautomatically.

The E-TTL auto flash system controls the exposure of the main subject aswell as the background. lt combines normal automatic exposure controland flash exposure control for both fi l l- in f lash and low-light conditions. ltalso enables high-speed sync (FP flash) and FE lock.
