It is pretty common knowledge that smoking will increase the

risk of lung cancer. Smoking also increases the risks of many

other types of cancers as well. There are some studies that

suggest drinking alcohol may also increase your risk of cancer

There was a study not too long ago that showed some

disturbing evidence that alcohol consumption may lead to an

increased risk of cancer. This study showed that there may be

an increased risk of breast, liver, throat, mouth, rectum and

esophagus cancer. There are other studies that do support this

theory.

Now it is important to note that these studies do not find any

direct link between drinking and cancer. These studies also

provide no explanation of how alcohol affects these organs and

their cells. These studies indicate that the type of liquor is not

really a factor in the increased risk except that the higher the

alcohol content, the more potential increased risk

These studies do indicate that women may be more affected

negatively than men. These studies show that even moderate

drinking can raise the risk of getting breast cancer. These

studies also showed that that there seems t be less of a risk

increase in men even with high alcohol consumption.

At this time, the actual increase in risk is unknown and could be

relatively small or generally high. The researchers also indicate

that there are different factors that can affect the level of

cancer risk liquor consumption poses. These researchers have

indicated that it depends on the age and gender of the person

and on their family medical history. However these studies

seem to indicate that the individual that may be most affected

by the increased risk of cancer due to alcohol consumption are

smokers.

At the time of this writing a direct link between alcohol and

cancer has not been identified but there does seem to be some

evidence that it may increase your risk of cancer. It is probably

best if you limit your alcohol consumption if you would like to

keep your risk of cancer down. Also by limiting your alcohol

consumption, you will likely see some other benefits as well.

Overall, it is up to you to decide whether to follow the advice of

doctors and to what extent. Keep in mind that excessive

consumption of alcohol can lead to very serious medical

conditions, even if it does not have a direct link to cancer risk.
