listener coupled with his unique history provides fellow coaches and players alike an opportunity to share in the creating of mutually beneficial and memorable experiences in basketball and the bigger game of life.

He also believes as coaches, players and people in general, that we are all works in progress, and that we do our best

works when we approach operating at the highest version of ourselves, and that there is no greater joy than truly

helping others to do just that. He knows that playing the best basketball, has a lot to do with unselfishness.

With that being said, basketball has provided Coach Gil with an extremely natural way to reach and minister to those he

serves at a deeper level and is his lifelong passion.

His Mission is simple:

“Inspire lives through transformational basketball instruction and beyond, be blessed, and love doing it”.

A rundown of some of Coach Gil’s unique basketball history and

experience and how he might serve you:

Coach Gil is a native of Long Island New York. He came to Los Angeles, when his mom and dad separated when

he was 3.

He started playing basketball at the age of 7, with a dream for playing for the “Showtime” Lakers, taking long

bus rides or walks to local parks, schools, or gyms throughout greater Los Angeles to watch or play legendary

street ballers,”weekend warriors”, pro players or whatever bigger and better players were there, even playing

hoops on makeshift “shopping cart” baskets in the parking lots and sidewalks outside his apartment complex, as

a testament to his love for the game.

Page 3: Camp Director, Coach, Teacher, and more - Official Site · All ages – all abilities – boys and girls – men and women – special needs – foreign cultures and more Gil Llewellyn

Although he hardly got much playing time, his impact was such that he earned back to back Coach’s Awards at

John Marshall High School in Los Angeles in the late eighties, on winning/undefeated teams, and earned the

nickname: “Dedicated Gil.” Winning this also in his senior year under Coach Henfred Brard, who played for

Coach Gregg Popovich at Pomon-Pitzer in Claremont.

He extensively watched, played and practiced basketball till he was 18.

He did not pursue further basketball opportunities, for many years, in favor of devoting his life to selfless

humanitarian objectives, in the same path as his mom.

Although very rewarding in many ways, and full of many unbelievable experiences and amazing stories,

unfortunately this missionary work took him away from the kind of connection he wanted to have with people

through basketball, and for a 16 year period, he virtually gave up his love for the game of basketball, and could

hardly find opportunities to watch, play or practice basketball , but for once or twice a year.

In 2004, at age 34, not finding himself aligned with his current situation, he realized he could actually pursue

basketball opportunities and inspire and empower others and he began this new mission in earnest, and has

never looked back.

*** “To Whom It May Concern,

I would like to present this letter of recommendation on behalf of Gil Llewellyn. My name is Jeff Dunlap. I am an

assistant basketball coach at Western Michigan University and the owner of the California based Complete Player

Basketball Camps. This past summer Gil joined our CPBC coaching staff. He worked with me alongside former NBA

players and college coaches. I can proudly say he did a tremendous job.

We take the hiring of coaches very seriously at Complete Player. Gil came to us very highly recommended and he lived

up to his references. I found Coach Llewellyn to be extremely passionate about teaching the game of basketball. He

exhibited all the key characteristics that make a coach successful. Gil is a great communicator as well as a great listener.

I liked the way he handled the kids in both winning and losing situations. He saw both scenarios as an opportunity to

teach the youngsters about respecting their opponents and dealing with adversity. Above all else, Gil was clearly excited

and enthusiastic about the opportunity to join our staff. He took great pride in his preparation going into each day of

the camp. He organized his thoughts and outlined his teaching points. He was very professional in every facet of his job.

It is without reservation that I highly recommend Coach Llewellyn for a position on your staff. I would not hesitate to

include Gil as a member of our camp staff in the future. If you have any questions or concerns about his qualifications, I

would be happy to discuss them with you personally. Thank you.”

Sincerely, Jeff Dunlap, UCLA Basketball team/Class of 1986

Coach Gil is a master. There is no one else that I’ve seen do it better working with and engaging the kids. “Crackers and Cheese with

My name is Ray DeLaurentis and I coach an 8th Grade boy’s basketball team in the Agoura Youth league. I have been using Coach Gil

to work with my players for 3 weeks now and he is truly remarkable.

His focus is relentless. He somehow manages to pack what seems like 3 hours of drills and information into a single hour.

His knowledge of the game is boundless: from defense, to rebounding, to shooting, to screening and cutting – you name it – he can

teach it- seemingly to any kid.

His passion for the game is amazing. You can tell he loves what he does and his energy and enthusiasm rub off on the kids instantly.

Most importantly, the results he achieves are beyond question. Before Coach Gil started with my team we were 0 and 1. After one

week we won our first game. Since then, our team has won two more games by an average of 20 points – with most of our starters

resting for the last 4 minutes of the game.

I have had winning teams every year I’ve coached, but the one thing I could never get my players to do is move and cut consistently

and effectively without the ball. After one session with Coach Gil (and without installing a single set play) my kids were slicing up the

Page 11: Camp Director, Coach, Teacher, and more - Official Site · All ages – all abilities – boys and girls – men and women – special needs – foreign cultures and more Gil Llewellyn

court: settings picks, rolling to open spots on the court and making beautiful assists. They were playing so well that the refs were

actually complimenting them.

All I can say… is that if you want your players to improve fast while learning to become a better coach yourself…Coach Gil is worth

hiring – at any price!

Hello Gill,

Susan would love to return for the Summer Camp as well. I will speak to Michael on payment. I know it is a longer period. Susan is

slow at learning, takes her a few times, but when she gets it, she is amazing. Practicing is something she needs to work on and not

just do it at camp. I noticed she can run very fast, not much stamina, but she flies when she goes. I am hoping these skills will build

her confidence and really make her a player. She wants to learn and is very competitive, we just have to let her be the tiger she is

inside. So hard with the terrible heartbreak of losing a father to cancer and a mother who yearns for her so far away and she for her.

I wish she is always part of your camp. I saw her light up in a way I have never seen before. She has also been very verbal on the

subject where with ballet she is more on the quite side. I pray for a dream life for her as she is the most loving child I have ever

known. I am trying to build work ethics and still keep her happy heart alive. Thank you Coach Gil, for giving her a dream this week

and she does indeed look forward to seeing you again. Now it is Coach Gil this and Coach Gil said this. Very great. I will look at the

Staples Center. I know late August works in Calabasas. God Bless you and your camp. Thank you for the amazing job and giving Susan

a chance.

Kind regards - Joyce and John – Adoptive Parents of 10 year old Susan from Thailand

*** To whom it may concern:

It is with great pleasure that I am able to write a Letter of Recommendation for Gil Llewellyn. Gil is my regional director for

California. He is in charge of all operations for California. He is a very dedicated hard working individual who pays great attention to

details. He is trustworthy, always shows up on time and works hard. Gil is so good at what he does that I send him to other states to

run operations there and train my directors for those states. I would highly recommend him for any position he would like to take

on. If he is applying for a coaching job you would be very lucky to have him. Gil's knowledge of the game is first rate but more

importantly he knows how to communicate that knowledge. We have many requests for trainers from parents and coaches to come

work with their kids and I have sent Gil out many times and I always get great reviews on him. Gil is one of our most requested

trainers. Please feel free to call me anytime if you would like to ask further questions in regards to Gil.

Thank you.
