The LC of Würzburg was founded in 1963 and has been going strong ever since. We are a group of roughly 60 motivated students, who strive to bring you the best possible experience here in Würzburg. The Local Committee often holds LC Meetings, ususally on Monday evenings. These are also open to Trainees, who want to get to know the LC more and see what else is going on in AIESEC Würzburg. After the meetings we usually go to a bar together to relax and hang out. We also host many Socials. Socials are events such as going Laser Tagging, hanging out at one of the many Wine Fests in Würzburg, going bowling, watching soccer games together and so on. They are there, so people get to know each other on a more personal level. We also encourage Trainees to join in, so they can get to know the LC and develop friendships that will outlast the GIP term!

The ICX Team is also responsible for Trainee Integration, they will organise things such as the Reception Weekend, Farewell Parties and such. These people are all about making your experience here an amazing one and each and every one of them is looking forward to finally meeting you, we can´t wait!

Würzburg is a city with a population of roughly 130.000 located in northern Bavaria on the river Main. In Germany it´s know as a „Studentenstadt“ (lit.: Student City), because of the many students living there. All those students make Würzburg what it is today. It´s a lively city filled to the brim with tradition, old buildings, a castle and even a palace, that has been added to the UNESCO World Heirtage List in 1981 (which is also the palace, where part of the film The Three Musketeers starring Orlando Bloom and Mila Jovovic was filmed). But It´s also a young and vibrant city. There are countless bars, night clubs and even a Laser Tag Arena. Würzburg is also host to many Festivals including the Africa Festival, Umsonst und Draussen (a free Festival right next to the river Main), countless wine festivities (where you can also enjoy local food delicacies) and many many more.

Würzburg is known for its´ many bars and pubs all over the city. It also has a few very old beer cellars, Till Eulenspiegel for example. There are a couple of Irish pubs, that see a massive rise in popularity around St. Patrick´s Day. If you like partying and going out, there are also plenty of options for you, such as the ´Airport´, which has 5 different areas all featuring different kinds of music. If you prefer a smaller club, there are plenty of options for you. One of the locals favourites is the ´Café René´ right by the Central Train Station. It´s a cosy little place, that is always filled to the brim with all kinds of different people. After a long night of partying some of the locals head to the Brandstetter Café, which opens at 5 AM (even on Sunday) and offers a hearty breakfast, fresh coffee and anything you could wish for.

Residenz: Pictured above you can see the backside of the UNESCO World Heiratage Palace. The building was dubbed the "nicest parsonage in Europe" by Napoleon, because it was commissioned by a Prince-Bishop. Festung Marienberg: This Fortress is located on a hill overseeing Würzburg. You can easily walk up the hill, or just use public transportation to witness this historic location. This is also where the “Festungsflimmern” is hosted – on an open field by the Fortress you can watch movies on a big screen with only the stars above you. (Hosted in June) Alte Mainbrücke: Würzburg´s Old Main Bridge is quite the sight. As the name suggests, this is the oldest bridge in Würzburg. It´s the one closest to the center of the city. It´s a place where many people hang out and enjoy the sounds of the river Main. You can also buy a glass of wine or get some food on its´ east end.

Würzburg might be a relatively small city, but it has great public transportation. You can get around easily just by walking or biking. But if you prefer Public transportation Würzburg has you covered with busses and trams that stop all over and around the city. If you plan to travel around in Germany, you´re also in luck. Würzburg is located right between two bigger cities called Frankfurt, which also has an international airport, and Nürnberg – second largest city in the Bavarian region. If you wish to visit the largest city and capital of Bavaria, you´re also not too far off. Munich and its´ Oktoberfest are not even 300 km away and can be reached in under three hours if you travel by car, even faster if you get a quick train! Want to travel somewhere outside of Germany? No problem: Prague, capital of the Czech Republic is only 3 ½ hours away from Würzburg if you take a car. The city boasts more than ten major museums, along with numerous theatres, galleries, cinemas, and other historical exhibits.

The Country Code for Germany is + 49, so in order to reach a number in Germany you need to dail 00 49 followed by the Area Code, which is 931 in Würzburg, followed by the local number. So for example 00 49 931 12345678. We expect you to have a german phone number during your stay here, so that you can reach us, other trainees and your employer easily. It´ll also make it much easier for anyone, who wants to reach you. Right after your arrival your trainee buddy will help you buy a german SIM Card and help you set up your phone so you´ll be able to easily communicate here right away.

The currency in Germany is the Euro, which you probably already know. The salary you will earn will be enough for you to cover basic expenses here during your GIP Trainee term. However you must know you will be paid only after the first month of work. This is why we suggest that you bring some money with you for your first month´s expenses. Credit Cards are accepted in many places, but you should also carry cash with you. Visa and Mastercard are the most popular credit cards in Germany. After your arrival your Trainee Buddy will help you set up a german Bank Account, which will give you a Debit Card, that you can use with that Bank Account. Once this is set up you´ll have a much easier time managing your finances while over here in Würzburg. Your Buddy will also help you close that account at the end of your stay. The German Climate can be describes as moderate. It can be quite unpredictable as low and high preassure systems can change quickly due to the fact that Germany is influenced by dry continental air masses from Eastern Europe and by maritime air masses from the Atlantic. That being said, extreme temperature lows and highs are rare. The weather varies from year to year, so rainy summers can be followed by spectacular sunshine in the next year. All things considered you should bring a warm winter jacket, we rarely get snow in Würzburg, but it does get cold, especially in the evenings. Temperatures in summer very rarely rise above 30 °C.
