Shot used : wide establishing shot

I liked this shot and found it particularly striking as it shows the setting of the music video which allows the audience to establish in this video where the actors/musicians are situated and the type of chilled vibe the video has. Similarly this shot is one that i think i would like to use in my own music video as i think it is effective and helps create the style of the music video through the use of colours, props and positioning of the band / actors. Also sets the starting point for the narrative.

This is shot that is commonly used in music videos which have A STORYLINE BECAUSE IT ENABLES THE AUDIENCE TO VIEW THE EMOTION OF THE CHARACTER AND UNDERSTAND HOW THEIR FEELING THROUGHOUT THE STORY BEING TOLD. SIMILARLY I LOVE THIS TYPE OF SHOT AS WHEN INVOLVED IN A MUSIC VIDEO IT ADDS SOME BEAUTY AND VARIETY TO THE VIDEO DUE TO THE FOCUS ON ONE OF HUMANS MOST BEAUTIFUL FEATURES, THEIR EYES. i WOULD LIKE TO USE THIS SHOT IN MY MUSIC VIDEO AS I BELIEVE THIS IS A SHOT WHICH REALLY MAKES THE AUDIENCE CONNECT WITH THE PERSON WITHIN THE VIDEO.

SHOT NUMBER 3ED SHEERAN LEGO HOUSE

SHOT TYPE: UPPER BODY DEEP FOCUSTHIS TYPE OF SHOT SHOWS THE SETTING OF THE MUSIC VIDEO WHILST ALSO THE CHARACTER, IT CREATES THE IDEA OF LONELINESS MAKING YOU FEEL SORRY FOR THE MUSICIAN AS YOU CAN SEE THE EMPTINESS OF THE AREA AND HOW HE IS ALONE. ADDITIONALLY THIS TYPE OF SHOT IS ONE THAT CAUGHT MY ATTENTION AS IT ALLOWED ME TO VIEW THE MUSICIAN/CHARACTER FACIAL EXPRESSION, OUTFIT AND BODY MOVEMENTS WHICH ENABLED ME TO HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF HOW HIS FEELING WITHOUT HAVING TO JUST LISTEN TO THE LYRICS. I AM PLANNING ON USING THIS TYPE OF SHOT IN MY OWN VIDEO.

SHOT NUMBER 4 BILLIONAIREBRUNO MARS

SHOT TYPE: HEAD SHOT SHALLOW FOCUS

tHIS TYPE OF SHOT IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES, AS IT ALLOWS THE FOCUS TO BE PUT ON ONE PART OF THE SHOT. tHIS TYPE OF SHOT CAN BE USED TO MAKE SOMEONE SEEM ALONE FROM THE REST OF THE PEOPLE, THIS ALLOWS THE AUDIENCE TO FEEL SORRY FOR THE CHARACTER THE VIDEO IS BASED AROUND. aNOTHER REASON THIS SHOT IS GOOD IS BECAUSE IT CAN ALSO BE USED TO ADD VARIETY TO THE VIDEO, THIS TYPE OF SHOT IS ATTRACTIVE TO THE EYE AND CAN BE USED TO KEEP THE AUDIENCE'S ATTENTION AS IT DIFFERS FROM THE STANDARD FULL BODY FULL FOCUS SHOT.

SHOT TYPE 5 THE 1975 THE SOUND

SHOT TYPE : LOW ANGLE

tHIS TYPE OF SHOT INCREASES THE HEIGHT OF THE CHARACTER ON THE SCREEN, AND MAKES THEM SEEM MORE DOMINANT AND POWERFUL. tHIS TYPE OF MUSIC VIDEO WAS A NARRATIVE AND THIS SHOT OF THE MAIN SINGER BEING SHOT FROM BELOW LOOKING DIRECTLY INTO THE CAMERA MAKES THE AUDIENCE FEEL SLIGHTLY UNCOMFORTABLE AS THEY FEEL ALTHOUGH HE IS LOOKING DOWN ONTO YOU. However this type of shot is fantastic for filming the main person of the music video because it does just show their power. I am going to try include this type of shot in my own final piece.

SHOT TYPE 6TAKE THAT KIDS

SHOT TYPE : TRACKING MIDDLE SHOT

tHE CAMERA MOVES OUT FROM BEHIND A BOX TO IN FRONT OF THE BOX WHICH ALLOWS A BETTER DOMINANT VIEW OF THE ARTIST. tHIS SHOT ALSO SHOWS THE SETTING OF THE ROOM AND THE MIS - EN - SCENE IS AMAZING DUE TO THE OLD VASE, THE OLD COLOURED WALLS AND THE COBWEB COVERED PICTURE FRAMES, THIS MAKES THE VIDEO MORE ATTRACTIVE TO THE AUDIENCE. tHIS TRACKING SHOT SHOWS THE ARTIST FROM A SIDE ANGLE MEANING WE CANNOT SEE HIS FULL EXPRESSION, THIS ADDS THE IDEA OF MYSTERY TO THE MUSIC VIDEO AS WE DON’T KNOW HOW HIS FEELING ABOUT HIS LOCATION AS WE CAN’T VIEW ANY EMOTION.

SHOT TYPE 7ONE DIRECTIONNIGHT CHANGES

SHOT TYPE : UPPER BODY TWO SHOT

THIS VIDEO WAS DONE AMAZINGLY, IT WAS MADE IN THE WAY THAT ALL THE SHOTS USED MADE IT SEEM LIKE THE BAND WERE TALKING / SINGING TO YOU. THIS TWO SHOT OF THE TWO MEN LOOKING DIRECTLY INTO THE CAMERA CAUGHT MY ATTENTION AS I LOVE THE WAY IT FEELS AS IF THEY ARE ADDRESSING YOU, IT SEEMS REALISTIC WHICH MAKES YOU ENJOY THE VIDEO. THE UPPER BODY SHOT ALSO SHOWS THEIR ATTIRE REVEALING THAT THEY ARE IN A POSH UPPER CLASS LOCATION, YOU ARE ALSO ABLE TO TELL THAT THE MAN ON THE RIGHT IS A WAITOR WHICH REVEALS THE ONE ON THE RIGHT IS THE ONE WITH THE POWER. THIS TWO SHOT IS GREAT AS IT SHOWS BOTH THE CHARACTERS TOGETHER WHILST ALSO SHOWING HOW MUCH THEY DIFFER.

SHOT TYPE 8CAGE AND THE ELEPHANT TROUBLE

SHOT TYPE : ESTABLISHING WIDE two SHOT

THis shot gives of the obscurity of the video, the two men sat having lunch in the middle of the dessert isn’t a “normal” thing to do so reveals to the audience that this type of video will be odd. This shot gives a clear image of the setting and alongside the high key lighting shows that they are in the middle of the desert and by themselves through the use of the the shot. This type of shot appeals to me as i think it is a great way to show the wackiness of your video whilst keeping the audience interested and engaged.

SHOT TYPE 9GNASH I HATE YOU I LOVE YOU

SHOT TYPE : ESTABLISHING HIGH ANGLE PANNING SHOT

THESE SHOTS ARE USE IN A MONTAGE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO, THEY ARE USED TO REVEAL THE LOCATIONS OF THE MUSIC VIDEO AND WORK AMAZINGLY WITH THE INTRODUCTION OF THE SONG AND CREATE A “CALM” VIBE. these type of shots are one of my favourite to use in my music as i think they just add variety to the video and make it differ from the typical full body shot that most videos use as an introduction.

Shot type : extreme close up

This type of shot focuses on a particular item, it it a great shot to use in narrative music videos as it can show the audience what the story is based upon. Additionally this type of shot is great if doing an extreme close up of someone as it can show their facial expressions clearly revealing to the audience their emotion. I plan on using extreme close ups in my music video as i also think it creates a dramatic effect and makes the video more interesting for the audience.

I have now analysed 10 different music video’s and picked out the

shots that interested me. By doing this I think it has helped me decided

what shots are successful and make a music video more enticing and interesting for the audience.
