We employ one police officer for every 540 people (national average is one for 377)

i.e. we have the fourth lowest number of police officers per head of pop. in the country.

To get to the average would require a further 570 officers…

We employ one member of police (civilian) staff for every 759 people (national average is one for 637)

i.e. we have the sixth lowest number of police staff per head of pop. in the country.

Let’s turn and look at our tight budget


Budget The Government will increase our

grant by 3% in 2010/11 We have no prospect of more money

from them The rest of our money comes from

you – in council tax The Government expects council tax

increases next year to be less than the 3% average this year.

Conclusion: we compare closely with others…


Tough times but Government has said that Policing is a priority.

It will ensure sufficient funding is available to maintain the current number of police officers and PCSOs
