Study Guide for California Missions 4th Grade

If you study and learn the following information, you will be prepared to do well on the missionunit test.

Use the following study materials

1. Background Sheets 1 through 8 in the Mission Control Student Guide 2. California Mission Map provided by Mrs. Eller

Section A

This will be a multiple choice section. It covers a little bit of this and a little bit of that so its abit hard to study for it. But, as a hint, dont forget: who came, when they came, products of the

missions, how many missions etc.

Section B

This is a true and false section. Dont forget that for true & false if there is one false part, thewhole thing is considered false. ( For example: Mission San Miguel was the 16th mission builtand is known for its 21 beautiful arches. This is false because it was the 16th mission, but it had16 arches, not 21.) Some of the topics covered will be: what are pueblos & presidios, the jobs ofNative Americans, the El Camino Real, some of the problems of trading ships, unique facts aboutsome of the missions.

Section C

Its matching time! Study the map of the missions to prepare for this section. You will need toknow who founded what mission.

Section D

Time to fill in the blank. You will be provided with words in a box to use to fill in the blanksin sentences. The words are mostly places, names, numbers, and a few objects.

Section E

This is The Big Essay question section. You will be asked to write a detailed answer to someessay questions. If you remember to use the Get SMAART method, it will help you get allthe points. Some things to focus on:

How the missions supported themselves and why cattle were so important Why Spain wanted to establish missions in California Know what Native Americans did at the missions Know the influence of music on the Native Americans What were Father Serra and Gaspar de Portolas jobs and how they made decisions about where to build
