CALENDAR ITEM VISIT OUR We just love how the Book Fair always creates a buzz around books and reading.

A huge THANK YOU to Mrs Stenning who has done a wonderful job promoting this week’s Book Fair.

Every class has visited the library and the students across all grades are very excited about the range of books that are available to purchase. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who have already supported the Book Fair by purchasing or donating a book. The library has been buzzing with excitement before school and at lunchtime as the students rush in to make an early purchase.

Our Book Fair Day is tomorrow – Friday August 10th. The library will be open all day on Friday from 8:30am – 4:00pm for sales to the community and students. Purchasing a book from the Book Fair really helps our school, as proceeds are used to purchase much needed library resources. Join in the fun and visit the Book Fair.

A Message from Mrs Moss

Congratulations to our Talented Dancers On Sunday August 5th three of our dance groups – Year 2 Girls (Friday), Year 6 (Miss Alecia) and Extension competed in the Sydney Dance Eisteddfod at the Opera House. A big THANK YOU to the staff - Mrs Barry, Mrs Stuart and Miss Bouffler who attended the Eisteddfod and supervised the girls so that they could compete. A big THANK YOU to all the parents who supported this initiative by transporting the girls to and from the Opera House and watching them perform. We could not do it without you. A big THANK YOU to Miss Alecia for her efforts and for her commitment to dance at Burraneer Bay. It was congratulations all around with the Year 2 Girls awarded 1st place. The Extension Dance Group also awarded 1st place and the Year 6 Girls were Highly Commended and placed 6th. What an outstanding effort.

SRC Fundraiser Beanie Day Thank you to Miss Warren, Mrs Gaffney, Mrs Manahan and the SRC for organizing today’s fundraiser. It was wonderful to see so many students from Kindergarten to Year 6 supporting the Beanies and Donuts day today. Your response was tremendous. The representatives from the Mark Hughes Foundation were very excited to join us and were touched by your generosity. We raised close to $1000. Thank you for your support.

Learning in 6M

A key focus throughout the school in 2018 has been on Creative and Critical Thinking. Children have been encouraged to think “outside the box” and challenge themselves by presenting their research creatively.

6M were thrilled to be able to show case the projects they have been doing in Geography and Genius Hour. In Geography, the students spent a large amount of time in term 2 comparing Australia with an Asian Country. They presented their research in the form of a Mirror Book. They developed a deep understanding of the two countries and used photos and pictures to compare and contrast the differences in lifestyle, culture, celebrations and traditions. The work they presented was impressive. Every book was unique. The standard of work was outstanding and the feedback they gave me on their projects was overwhelmingly positive. Genius Hour presented a different challenge. The focus was on using multiple intelligences. Students had to choose a topic of interest and present it to their peers. Their final products reflected their innovative and creative thinking. Well done 6M. I thoroughly enjoyed my classroom visit.

Interruption Free Zones (Repeated)

Research shows that late arrivals and interruptions have a significant impact on student engagement and achievement.

Displayed on many of our classroom doors is a sign that says Interruption Free Zone 9:10-11:10am. Staff are keen to protect this time so that lessons can take place without disruptions. This allows the teachers to focus on quality teaching and students to focus on their learning. A short break for Crunch and Sip will continue, as a healthy snack during the morning session helps keep children alert and ready to learn.

What does it mean for our parents and carers? We need your support! All children must arrive at school before the 9:10 am bell to make the most of their day. To do this, children need parents and carers to make sure they are on time every day. Parents are encouraged to leave the playground when the music starts.

Please do not follow your child’s class to the room as teachers and children are preparing for learning. If you need to communicate with your child’s teacher, you are encouraged to leave a message for the teacher at the office. Please support us and try to make any appointments for your children outside of school hours. When children arrive late or leave early, they disrupt their own learning as well as the learning of every other child in their class.

You are invited to celebrate 125 Years of Education at Burraneer Bay Save these Dates September 14th and September 15th

We will be celebrating our 125 Years Anniversary and Education Day on Friday September 14. Parents, grandparents and community members are all invited to join us.

We have organized special grade items and all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will show case their talents.

Our bands, dance groups and choirs will also perform.

Visitors are invited to visit our classrooms and our library to see some of the students’ wonderful work and to stay and share a picnic lunch.

School Photos –Ordering Group Photos Final Reminder School Photos were sent home with all the students at the end of the term. A reminder that Group Photos – Dance, Band, Choir, SRC, Prefects and Sporting Teams - are on display in the office foyer and they look great. The group photos can only be ordered online.

Canteen Update The canteen is always short of volunteers on several days. If you can help (even for just 1 hour in the morning), it would be greatly appreciated. Please come and see Catherine in the canteen if you are able to volunteer some of your time.

125th Anniversary Disco Thank you

Our 125th Anniversary Birthday Party Disco was a huge success. DJ Andy was back again to entertain the 455 students who attended. The Disco ran smoothly and the children were very engaged. The Snow Machine, water sprayers, floor drumming and stuffed toy prizes were a hit. Thank you to
