President's Message by Cathie SmithWhile it’s lovely to be enjoying the extra hours of daylight with summer on the horizon, am I wrong to be wishing for rain in May? Does it ever rain in May? Still, what rain we’ve had has given us magnificent wildflowers this spring to add to the beauty that surrounds us.

I hate to keep hammering on this next topic but it’s a problem that we must solve. Monday, March 28th from 10-12 was the takedown of our open show at the Faulkner. Besides the listing on the front page of the newsletter, we were especially careful at the ingathering to give out reminder cards noting time and place for the show takedown, knowing that many participants were not members and would not see our newsletter. On the 28th at noon, there were still 17 pieces not collected but here’s the kicker; 15 of those pieces belonged to our members who should, by this time, know better! Extra time had to be taken to call all these entrants. What then made everything worse was that on Friday, April 1st, I was called by the library to let me know that there were still three pieces that I had to immediately come and pick up. Some members’ lack of responsibility or consideration for our volunteers has forced us to impose a NEW RULE: starting with our May show at the Faulkner, if you do not pick up your art work on time – no excuses – you will not be allowed to show in our next show ( e.g. June at the Faulkner) and

so on through the year. This applies to all our venues. If you aren’t sure that you or someone else can pick up, don’t enter the show!

If you are planning to attend the Annual General Meeting on April 26th, now is the time to raise your hand. Please send in your check ASAP or at least let us know your plans at [email protected] . It’s hard to plan food and drink without a head count, and in the past it’s always been an enjoyable evening. This year there will be some door prizes in addition to awards, scholarships and most likely more collaging. Also, there will be the voting for the 2016/17 Board of Directors (see below) and new members to meet and welcome.

We have three juried shows coming up – May 2nd at the Faulkner, May 7th at 1919 State, and June 1st at the Faulkner. Both Faulkner shows will have first Thursday receptions and the music for the June reception will be the Dixie Daddies. You can sign up at the ingatherings to assist during the receptions. Check page one for all details.

See you on the 26th!
