Babe Ruth League Bids Farewell to Our Dear Friend,Julia Ruth Stevens, Loving Daughter of Baseball Icon Babe Ruth

Y-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Z

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Julia Ruth Stevens, who passed away early in the morning of March 9, 2019, after a short illness. Julia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who lived a wonderful, full life during the 102 years that she was with us.

Julia, who was considered baseball royalty, was the last person who knew the Babe firsthand. Reflecting on their relationship beyond the ball field, she would always tell you she loved him and couldn’t have had a better father. Until the very end, she was proud to call the Babe “Daddy.”

Born into a typical southern family on July 17, 1916, in Athens, Georgia, Julia’s earliest days were spent with her mother, grandmother and two uncles. Her biological father had passed away shortly after Julia was born. In 1918, her mother, Claire, left the comfort of her Athens home along with her toddling baby and headed off to New York City. There, she eventually met and married the legendary Babe Ruth.

Julia was the older of two daughters adopted by Ruth. Dorothy Helen Ruth Pirone, who passed away in 1989, was adopted by Babe Ruth and his first wife, Helen.

Julia embraced the moments she shared with the Babe. She was always pleased to share stories with eager fans and journalists alike.

The opportunity to travel the world with Babe Ruth and her mother was one of Julia’s fondest memories of the sports icon. In particular, she loved the “round the world” tour on which they embarked in 1934, including travels through Japan with her family to watch 15 exhibition baseball games. Another affectionate recollection was listening to their favorite radio program, “The Lone Ranger,” with the Babe in their New York City apartment.

Julia Ruth Stevens had far more memories than memorabilia. She loved going to Opening Day and the World Series. She was always amazed by the huge crowds and excitement.

The Babe taught her how to dance and they danced together. He taught her how to bowl, and they bowled together.

Throughout her life, Julia was proud to promote her father’s legacy, which included the Babe Ruth League program.

She crisscrossed America, encouraging boys and girls in their love of baseball and softball. In doing so, she became one of the greatest Ambassadors for Babe Ruth League and its participants.

Julia and her son Tom attended many Babe Ruth League events. In fact, as recently as 2016, Julia attended a Babe Ruth World Series. She was 100 years old at the time.

Julia also made frequent appearances at baseball events, throwing out many ceremonial first pitches. And she always had time for one more autograph.

Her last appearance was at Fenway Park on July 9, 2016, when she threw out the first pitch at a Red Sox game to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Julia Ruth Stevens was a great supporter of Babe Ruth League. She attended many Babe Ruth World Series where she always made time to spend with the players and families. Julia was also a great representative of the Babe Ruth League program, which was named in honor of her father, the greatest baseball player of all time. While we will miss Julia greatly, we will always remember her kindness and friendship.

— Steven M. Tellefsen, President/CEO, Babe Ruth League, Inc.

RegIONS OF BaBe Ruth Leaguethe State Level

The District Commissioner reports to the State Commissioner. Depending on its size and the population of its leagues, a state organization may consist of an entire state or a portion of a state. State Commissioners are volunteers who operate the Babe Ruth program within each state organization according to the Babe Ruth Rules and Regulations as well as any applicable State-level by-laws and policies.

the State Commissioner is responsible for:

• Assisting local league officials when needed or requested by District Commissioners.

• Holding elections for District Commissioners elected by the local leagues within the respective district.

• Holding several meetings per year, including an election meeting where each District Commissioner votes for the State Commissioner; a meeting devoted to league eligibility for tournament play, as well as a complete review of all Babe Ruth Rules and Regulations for local league and tournament play; and meetings to review the special programs offered by Babe Ruth International Headquarters to address any District concerns and review possible policy and rule changes.

• Operating State Tournaments and working through his/her District Commissioners to make certain all leagues are eligible for tournament play.

• Presenting to the Regional Commissioner (the next level) for review all District concerns within his/her state in order that the state’s recommendations are presented properly to Babe Ruth International Headquarters.

the Regional Level

The State Commissioner reports to the Regional Commissioner, of which there are eight. A regional organization consists of several states. A Regional Commissioner operates the Babe Ruth program

within each region according to the Babe Ruth Rules and Regulations and the program’s policies and procedures.

the Regional Commissioner is responsible for:

• Assisting local league officials when needed or requested by District or State Commissioners.

• Holding one or two workshops per year where the operations of the region and the Babe Ruth program are reviewed thoroughly.

• Operating and administering the Regional Tournaments in conjunction with his/her Assistant Regional Commissioners.

• Presenting to Babe Ruth International Headquarters (the next level) for review any regional concerns and subsequent action.

International headquarters

Elected by the Board of Directors is the President/CEO of Babe Ruth League, Inc. who leads the program’s operation and administration. Full-time staff members (including the President/CEO) work with the program’s volunteer network of over one million individuals to provide the very best educational, sports experience possible for participants.

The International Headquarters for the administration of Babe Ruth League, Inc. is located in Mercer County, New Jersey.

the Board of Directors

At the top of the chain of command is the Babe Ruth League International Board of Directors, including the President/CEO who directs the affairs and policies of Babe Ruth League, Inc. The eight Regional Commissioners serve as Board Members, along with eight “at-large” members.

This map illustrates the eight regions of Babe Ruth League, Inc. Each region is comprised of the state organizations.

the Local League Level

The foundation of the Babe Ruth program is the local league level. Each Cal Ripken Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball, and Babe Ruth Softball league is organized within a community by a group of select people, who usually serve as a temporary Board until regular elections of officers can be held. State Commissioners help local leagues establish geographical boundaries—which are protected by Babe Ruth League, Inc.—from which to draw their players.

Babe Ruth local leagues operate with the spirit of democracy and with much autonomy. In addition, Babe Ruth League, Inc. provides materials to help leagues establish their own Constitution and By-Laws and plan meetings.

All league officers, managers, coaches, umpires and miscellaneous personnel should be volunteers from within the community and should be individuals who care about teaching the youth of their community the ideals of sportsmanship, fair play, respect for self and others and high morality.

the District Level

A District is an established area within a state that can consist of between five to ten leagues. A District Commissioner is a volunteer who operates the Babe Ruth program within each district according to the Babe Ruth Rules and Regulations, State’s Constitution and By-Laws and its policies.

The District Commissioner assists the local leagues whenever needed. He/she holds several meetings per year to keep his/her leagues updated on the special programs as well as possible policy and rule changes. The District Commissioner serves as the local league’s liaison with the State Commissioner.

Born: February 6, 1895 in Baltimore, MD Died: August 16, 1948 in New York, NY Height: 6’2” Weight: 215 lbs. Threw and batted lefthanded Married Clair Merritt Hodgson, April 17, 1929

When Babe Ruth left the game of baseball, the New York Yankees retired his number 3. He had become a legend and no one else could ever take the great Bambino’s place.

Ruth grew up in St. Mary’s Industrial School

in Baltimore. Taught how to handle a needle and thread, he was supposed to be a tailor, but Brother Gilbert suspected otherwise.

In 1914, he was signed by the Minor League Baltimore Orioles and shortly moved on to the Boston Red Sox before settling in New York with the Yankees. In a few seasons, it became clear that Babe Ruth was the best lefthander in the American League. But his dazzling record as a pitcher was soon eclipsed by his spectacular slugging.

Ruth broke record after record, each time setting new ones only he could equal. During his 22 year career, the Sultan of Swat hit 714 home runs, plus an additional 15 in World Series competition.

Babe Ruth gave baseball dozens of new records; but more importantly, Babe gave the game the warmth and color of his own personality. The Bambino singlehandedly launched big-time baseball into a new era of glory.

CaL RIPKeN, JR. - 2007 NatIONaL BaSeBaLL haLL OF FaMe INDuCteeCal played the game the way it was meant to be played – every day. He played a record 2,632 consecutive games, earning the nickname Iron Man. For this reason, fans and major leaguers from around the country admire and respect him. Cal, Jr. is one of just eight players in a history to amass more than 400 home runs and 3,000 hits. Selected to baseball’s All-Century team, this two-time Gold Glove winner and 8-time Silver Slugger Award Winner, was a terrific all-around player. Twice the American League’s Most Valuable Player, he and his fellow Oriole teammates made their hometown of Baltimore proud when they clinched the title of 1983 World Series Champions.

To top off a career that others can only dream about, on January 9, 2007, Ripken received the highest honor of recognition … election into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

This award was established in 1991 to recognize and to pay tribute to an outstanding volunteer in the Babe Ruth Program. This award is made in honor of the late Vernon “Lefty” Gomez, a twenty-five year member of the Babe Ruth League, Inc. Board of Directors.

CaL RIPKeN DIVISION (4-12)

In April of 1987, Cal Ripken, Sr., Cal Ripken, Jr. and Bill Ripken took the field together—not as father and sons, but as manager and players. This was the culmination of a lifelong journey that took the Ripken family from the youth leagues to the major leagues. From the very beginning, it was evident that Cal, Jr. and Bill would follow in their father’s footsteps, always listening and learning while Cal, Sr. talked about the finer points of the game. Cal Ripken, Sr. was a father figure and mentor not only to his own sons, but to a multitude of players and coaches.

As a player, coach, and manager in the Baltimore Orioles organization for over 37 years, he will be forever recognized with developing and teaching the fundamentals of playing the game of baseball the right way—“The Ripken Way.”

Cal Ripken, Sr. passed on his ideals and passion to his sons: “The Ripken Way”. The approach combines developing and strengthening the fundamental skills of baseball and athletic conditioning with the equally important virtues of work ethic, practice and an understanding and love for the game. Cal Ripken, Jr. and Babe Ruth League have always shared a common vision: To provide every youngster the opportunity to play baseball and have fun. Teaching them to play the game “The Ripken Way” will assure accomplishment of this goal. In 2000, Babe Ruth League, Inc. and Cal Ripken, Jr. came together to introduce Cal Ripken Baseball, A Division of Babe Ruth League, Inc. for baseball players 4 through 12 years of age.

ROOKIe League

Dr. Bobby Brown, former President of the American League, with the help of Babe Ruth Baseball, established “Rookie Leagues”

throughout the nation in hope of getting more youngsters playing baseball.

Rookie League is designed for players seven through nine years old. A pitching machine is used to speed the games along using softer baseballs to help reduce the fear factor. There is a fourth outfielder and a fifth infielder and all twelve players on the roster are placed in the batting order. The games are six innings in length and are played on a standard youth field on sixty foot base lengths. The pitching machine is placed forty-six feet from home plate.

The program became part of the Cal Ripken Division in 1987 and has enjoyed steady growth.

The program gets high praise from coaches, players, parents and league officials. Accolades of “fantastic,” “it’s great fun,” “my kids enjoy it,” “players learn quicker,” “very few players quit” are heard around the ball fields of the Rookie League.

For further Rookie League information, contact Babe Ruth International Headquarters.

13-YeaR-OLD PReP League

In an effort to encourage more participation in the game of baseball, the International Board of Babe Ruth League, Inc. approved at the beginning of the 1976 season the use of the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-Year-Old Prep League.

Under the Prep League rules, the team rosters must be comprised of all 13-year-old players and shall consist of no fewer than 12 players and no more than 15 players. In order for the Prep League to be accepted by Headquarters, the local parent program must be a chartered Babe Ruth Baseball 13-15 League.

Studies have shown that many young players lose interest in the game of baseball because of not getting a chance to play in games once selected for an organized team. In addition, it has been found that players have expressed fear in competing with 14- and 15-year-old players who have already experienced one to two years playing on the standard 90-foot diamond.

With the Babe Ruth Baseball Prep League, the 13-year-old player now has that chance to play with his peers, thus avoiding the possibility of his losing interest in playing baseball. Babe Ruth Baseball also features a 13-Year-Old World Series.

13-15 DIVISION

Babe Ruth League, the group for 13-14-15 year old players, was founded in 1951.

Each local league chartered is an organization with authority to administer its own program within the framework of the Rules and Regulations and guidance of Babe Ruth League, Inc. officials.

Each state, province or territory in the 13-15 division is operated by an elected State Commissioner, and in most states, there are District Commissioners who assist the State Commissioner with his many duties. (Some states, with approval from Headquarters, also receive the assistance of Area Commissioners).

In turn, the states are grouped into eight regions with a Regional Commissioner to oversee the Regional operation. These Regional

Commissioners also serve as members of the International Board of Directors of Babe Ruth League, Inc.

Teams from each league are eligible to enter tournament competition and move along the tournament trail to the championship tournament—the World Series.

16-YeaR-OLD PReP League

Babe Ruth Baseball in its efforts to continue to provide an ongoing learning process for its players, enters the twenty-fourth year of a Prep Program for sixteen-year-olds.

Under the league rules, the team rosters must be comprised of all 16-year-old players and shall consist of no fewer than 12 players and no more than 18 players. In order for the Prep League to be franchised, the local parent program must be a chartered 16-18 Babe Ruth League. The sixteen-year-old prep leagues’ primary objectives are to keep the players involved in organized baseball and continue to learn and improve their baseball skills.

Without a sixteen-year-old Prep Program, most sixteen-year-olds receive very little game experience and eventually lose interest in baseball.

The 16-year-old division should open opportunities for leagues to add teams to their existing programs and more players to compete in tournament play.

16-18 DIVISION

16-18 Babe Ruth Baseball was born in 1966 and has increased steadily since its inception. The 16-18 division is designed to provide organized regulation baseball competition for 16, 17, and 18-year-old players as a development plateau where they can continue to learn and practice those principles which will help carry them through to a satisfactory and productive adulthood.

The 16-18 division was organized because Babe Ruth League, Inc. was aware its job was far from completed by providing for 13, 14, and 15-year-old players. No organization was making available similar opportunities for young players once they had surpassed the 13-15 Babe Ruth Baseball age. The 16-18 division was designed to fill a void much the same as the Babe Ruth 13-15 division had filled a similar gap when it became a reality in 1951.

In the 16-18 division, which is played under regulation baseball rules, can be found the opportunity to practice the ideals of sportsmanship, fair play, high morality and democratic spirit which the participant has learned at the 13-15 Babe Ruth level. The main objective of the 16-18 division is to provide a community-level program which eventually gives the players an opportunity to participate in the 16-18 World Series.

The 16-18 division has rapidly gained much attention and respect from college baseball coaches and major league scouts as an outstanding feeder program for future collegiate and professional baseball players.

BaMBINO BuDDY-BaLL

Babe Ruth League believes that every child should have the opportunity to participate in baseball or softball. The Bambino Buddy-Ball League helps to make that dream a reality for physically and/or mentally challenged ballplayers.

With the help of a special “buddy” to swing a bat, round the bases or catch the ball, ballplayers are able to experience the thrills of the game.

The Bambino Buddy-Ball League is designed to foster confidence and self-esteem, make memories and have fun. An emotionally rewarding experience for all, “buddies” achieve satisfaction from their involvement while athletes benefit from the opportunity to participate in organized sports, physical fitness, and social events and outings.

Babe Ruth League, Inc. is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to serving all youth, both boys and girls. Since its inception in 1984, Babe Ruth Softball has shown tremendous growth. It has become a premier softball program throughout the United States and Canada.

Babe Ruth Softball is designed for the girls ages 4-18. Age Divisions that are offered are 6U, 8U,10U, 12U,14U,16U and 18U. Leagues are encouraged to organize optional 10U teams within the 12U division, and 14U teams within the 16U division, but are not required to do so.

The primary emphasis of Babe Ruth Softball is on the local league season: education, skill development, participation for players at all levels of athletic ability, and to ensure the participants have FUN.

Babe Ruth Softball’s structural hierarchy evolves from the very heart of the program: the local league. Local leagues are organized into districts. Districts report to the State level. States are grouped into eight regions. Volunteer District, State, and Regional Softball Commissioners provide guidance and direction for the areas under their jurisdiction.

Leagues chartered with Babe Ruth Softball operate with simplicity, democracy, and much autonomy within the framework of Babe Ruth League, Inc. rules and regulations. Leagues are formed within defined and registered geographical boundaries. Dual-participation may be allowed at the local league’s discretion. Babe Ruth League, Inc. places no undue restrictions on the local league, a fact that sets it far apart from all other programs.

A highlight of Babe Ruth Softball is its annual tournament trail. Tournament teams from each local league are eligible to participate in District competition with winners advancing to the State and Regional levels. In 1999, Babe Ruth Softball debuted its first 12U World Series and 16U World Series. Eight regional champions from across the United States and Canada compete in each World Series.

In 2015, the World Series was expanded to the 8U, 10U and 14U age levels. Teams will either earn a berth to the series in these age groups by being a Regional Champion or they will be winners of a National Qualifier that is hosted by the state they reside in.

The World Series format begins with pool play competition, followed by either a single or double elimination bracket to determine the World Series Champion.

The pineapple is a recurring motif around Jensen Beach. The town’s affinity for the spiny fruit can be traced back to 1879, when the first pineapple slips were planted by Capt. Thomas E. Richards at his Eden homestead. John Laurence Jensen immigrated from Denmark in 1881 and set up his pineapple plantation which eventually became the towns of Jensen and Stuart. A mere 14 years later, Jensen was shipping over 1 million boxes of pineapples each year during June and July earning the town, “Pineapple Capitol of the World.”

Hard freezes, fires and financial problems contributed to the industry’s final collapse in 1920, but the legacy of this tropical fruit lives on in the signage, store fronts and residences of Jensen Beach/Stuart. This unique history is celebrated annually during the Jensen Beach/Stuart Pineapple Festival.

2019 CaL RIPKeN 10-YeaR-OLD WORLD SeRIeS - PheNIX CItY, aLaBaMa

Phenix City, Alabama is extremely proud and excited to host the 2019 Cal Ripken 10-Year-Old World Series at the Idle Hour Sports Complex, located less than a mile off of US Highway 80 on Airport Road, next to the beautiful Chattahoochee River. The complex is built on top of what used to be Phenix City’s airport, but is now the home of four Phenix City youth sports leagues.

The Idle Hour Sports Complex features five baseball fields, along with four softball fields, and is just down the road from Moon Lake at Martin-Idle Hour Park, which is surrounded by a 3/4-mile finished walking track and a paved—dog friendly—nature trail.

Phenix City is overflowing with fun activities and events for World Series participants, their families and fans. Whether they prefer adventures like rafting down the Chattahoochee River on the World’s longest urban Whitewater Rafting course, then flying through the trees on the Blue Heron Zip Line and Aerial Course; or prefer to slow it down by visiting one of the area’s great museums and shopping centers, Phenix City has what they need.

Within five miles of the Idle Hour Sports Complex, someone can play a round of golf at Lakewood Golf Course, rent a bicycle to enjoy miles of Riverwalk riding, or try out the new 18-hole

disc golf course located along the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Fans of hiking, swimming, fishing or running should be sure to visit one of Phenix City’s beautiful parks, then take a dip in the swimming pool at Phenix City’s Youth Sports Complex or cool off in one of three splash parks throughout Phenix City. There’s also the Coca Cola Space Science Center in nearby Columbus, GA, that innovatively combines education and entertainment to promote science exploration and discovery.

Speaking of Columbus, it is located just across the river and it’s the third-largest city in Georgia. Those who can’t find what they’re looking for in Phenix City can surely find it in Columbus. If not, Auburn University and the Tigertown shopping center are just a half-hour away.

For more information, please visit the Phenix City tourism website at www.visitphenixcity.com.

We’re really looking forward to hosting the 2019 Cal Ripken 10-Year-Old World Series, along with all of the wonderful participants and their families. We hope you’ll enjoy your stay.

2019 BaBe Ruth BaSeBaLL 13-YeaR-OLD WORLD SeRIeS - WeStFIeLD, MaSSaChuSettSWestfield Babe Ruth is proud to be the host for the 2019 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series! Westfield Babe Ruth hosted its first Babe Ruth World Series in 2016.

Westfield is a city located in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. Westfield was first settled in 1660. The Pioneer Valley is within three of Massachusetts’ counties that collectively feature much of New England’s most fertile farmland. In 2019 Westfield will be celebrating its 350th birthday with events planned throughout the year to honor our city’s history.

Travelers are drawn to the Pioneer Valley by its unspoiled nature, numerous parks and recreational facilities, including New England’s largest and most popular amusement park, Six Flags New England in Agawam and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Springfield’s riverfront. The Pioneer Valley is a popular, year-round tourist destination.

Westfield is located a short 1.5 hour drive from Boston, 2.5 hours from New York City and only 2 hours and 40 minutes from the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. We hope you will take some time to enjoy the rich history in the Pioneer Valley and throughout New England while you are in Westfield.

Westfield is also known as “The” Baseball Town in Western Massachusetts. The Westfield area high schools have produced many Western Massachusetts baseball championship teams throughout the last 20 years.

The World Series games will be played at Billy Bullens Field. The stands surrounding the

beautiful baseball field were constructed in the 1940’s as a WPA (Works Progress Administration) project. Numerous additions and improvements have been made over the years to make Bullens Field the premier baseball facility in Western

Massachusetts.

Westfield has a long tradition of business innovation that began in the 19th century with the manufacturing of bricks, whips, and cigars that became important economically. At one point in the 1800s, Westfield was a prominent center of the buggy whip industry, and continues to be known as the “Whip City.“

Westfield is also the home of Westfield State University, a part of the Massachusetts public higher education system. Westfield State University is dedicated to preparing students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to succeed.

The City of Westfield values its vibrant business community and recognizes the contribution that businesses, from small retailers to multi-million dollar corporations, make to the character and economic vitality of our city.

2019 BaBe Ruth BaSeBaLL 13-15 YeaR-OLD WORLD SeRIeS - BISMaRCK, NORth DaKOtaBismarck, North Dakota’s capital city, lies along the banks of the Missouri River in the heart of North Dakota and is home to the 2019 Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series. Bismarck has hosted multiple state, regional and even world sports competitions, receiving high marks for operational excellence, and is delighted to host its first Babe Ruth World Series. A group of baseball and community volunteers is looking forward to making sure your experience creates memories that last a lifetime.

Your baseball home away from home will be the Bismarck Municipal Ballpark, home of Dakota Community Bank and Trust Field. This 1,900-seat ballpark is located at the intersection of S. Washington Street and Memorial Highway in central Bismarck. The Bismarck Municipal Ballpark is maintained and operated by Bismarck Parks and Recreation District, a nationally accredited and Gold Medal award winning agency.

Bismarck has a very rich baseball history. Baseball has been played at this ballpark since 1921.

In 1935, a Bismarck semi-professional team electrified the baseball world when Satchel Paige led the team to the National Semi-Professional Tournament championship, making that team the first integrated baseball team to win a national championship. Years later, Paige would say the team “was the best he ever saw,” and Quincy Trouppe, a player on the team and author of the book “Twenty Years Too Soon,” would describe the national championship as the “most significant event in baseball until Jackie Robinson would break the color barrier” (1947). There are interpretive signs at the ballpark that detail more of the history of the ballpark. Who knows what history will be made at the 2019 Babe Ruth World Series?

In 1992, the ballpark was reconfigured to accommodate the widening of nearby Washington St., and in 2014, the ballpark was upgraded to include stadium seating, additional practice areas, a grandstand, new concessions, press box, restrooms, dugouts, videoboard, entrance and ticketing. The Northwoods League started a team—the Bismarck Larks—in 2017.

When you’re not at the ballpark, you can enjoy just the right mix of entertainment, history, outdoor adventures and shopping. Plan a trip to the zoo or an aquatic facility. Go golfing or bowling or see a

Demopolis and the entire West Alabama area is proud to be your host for the 2019 Babe Ruth 14-Year-Old World Series. The Demopolis Sportsplex has been a host to many successful state and regional Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken tournaments, but we believe you’ll find that our community’s “Southern Hospitality” is what sets us apart from other locations.

Our Sportsplex is home to twelve baseball and softball fields, four soccer fields, a golf course, walking trail, fishing pond, playground and two pavilions. During our 14-Year-Old World Series, we will play on two side-by-side fields (pictured), on Bermuda grass, with 330’ (lines) to 400’ (alleys) outfield fences. The ‘Plex was built for the purpose of hosting world-class events such as the Babe Ruth World Series.

Known as the “River City”, Demopolis is located at the confluence of the Black Warrior and Tombigbee Rivers. There are several parks in the area that highlight our abundant natural resources, as well as seemingly unlimited camping and fishing opportunities during the summer.

The name “Demopolis” is a Greek term for “City of the People”. From our baseball staff, volunteers and spectators at the ‘Plex to our local restaurants, shops, convenience stores, and other businesses in the area, we know you’ll find the people of Demopolis to be welcoming and friendly. During your stay, we hope that you’ll visit one of our area churches for worship service, browse our many shops, tour our historic antebellum homes and, frankly, make yourself at home.

Please visit our website at DEMOPOLISAL.GOV, where we’ll have updated information related to our World Series as well as our visitors’ guide to enhance your stay in the River City. We look forward to seeing you!

2019 BaBe Ruth BaSeBaLL 16-18 YeaR-OLD WORLD SeRIeS - MOBILe, aLaBaMaMobile County would like to welcome you to the 2019 16-18 Babe Ruth World Series.

Follow I-65 South, where it connects with I-10 and you’ll be in Mobile, the oldest city in Alabama, which is hard to believe with the constant new development. Mobile County borders on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. No matter where you turn, you are minutes away from entertainment, mall or boutique shopping, and the best Southern Cuisine in the world.

You will never have a dull moment. Between outstanding baseball games, you could visit one of the many museums, such as the Mobile Carnival Museum, the Phoenix Fire Museum, the hands-on Exploreum & Imax Theater, or the Mobile Museum of Art. If museums are not your thing, visit the USS-Alabama, warplanes and submarines at Battleship Park, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, 5 Rivers Resource Center, the beautiful botanical gardens & home at Bellingrath, the childhood home of Hank Aaron at Baybear Stadium, or even an Escape Room Experience. Do you enjoy tours? Try a historical home tour and see the stunning Oakleigh Manor, the Bienville Bites Food Tour, the Haunted Mobile Ghost Tour, a self-guided bike tour through Downtown, or go out on Mobile Bay by Duck Boat, Airboat, or a Pontoon Boat Tour. And, we have the always popular movie theaters, mini golf, go carts, bowling lanes, parks & splash pads. If you would like to take a short drive, you can even enjoy the beautiful white sand beaches of Gulf Shores, the Owa Amusement Park, Waterville, or try your luck at the casinos in Biloxi. If you enjoy a day on the water, you could experience Deep Sea or In-Shore Fishing on a chartered boat, or a Dolphin Watching Cruise, then afterwards, you might relax in an upscale spa, or have a cocktail in a local brewery and enjoy the nightlife on Downtown Dauphin Street.

The World Series will take place at one of the four colleges in Mobile. The University of Mobile, is a four-year, private, Baptist affiliated university, established in 1961. Formerly known as Mobile College, the beautiful campus is located on 880 wooded acres.

University of Mobile’s Baseball Field, Jacobs Field, is named for Hall of Fame Coach Mike Jacobs, who founded the program and still leads the NAIA Rams today. With the help of the assistant coach Jon Seymour, the Rams have been very successful, competing in the Southern States Athletic Conference. 35 Rams have signed MLB contracts, 17 players were drafted, with 2 currently playing in the MLB. A few of Mobile’s notable alumni are J.C. Romero, Joe Espada, Kyle McPherson, and Saul Rivera.

This immaculate baseball complex has 588 permanent seats, electronic scoreboard, press box, coach’s office, concession stand and bathrooms, home and visitors bullpens, and the J.C. Romero Hitting Facility. In the fieldhouse you will find home team locker rooms and a lounging area. This is a facility and campus that students show off with pride.

Mobile has a strong history in Baseball, producing many successful players, such as: Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey, Billy Williams, Randy McGilberry, Satchel Paige, Jake Peavy, Ozzie Smith, Amos Otis, Dave Stapleton, Josh Donaldson, Juan Pierre, and Turner Ward, just to name a few. Let’s not stop there, other celebrities include:

AJ McCarron, Scott Hunter, Keith McCants,

Jamarcus Russell, Darrell Wallace Jr., Sherman Williams, TJ Yeldon, Richard Tyson, Tim Cook, and Jimmy Buffett have also called Mobile home.

We would like to show you some Southern Hospitality, so enjoy your time at the World Series and explore Mobile and the surrounding areas. And, you don’t want to leave the port city without trying great barbeque, award winning hamburgers, and some fresh seafood straight from the Gulf. If you don’t have time to enjoy everything, Y’all feel free to extend your stay after the championship game.
