All newsletter submissions should be sent, by the FIRST

OF THE MONTH, to bdeloge@att.net.

The newsletter will be distributed, usually a day after the

Guild’s monthly board meetings, as I try to gather last mi-

nute information. (Please refer to the monthly calendar for

this date.) Information may be sent .jpeg, .pdf, .doc.

In order to keep emails to the membership at a minimum,

the following criterion will apply to emails sent to the gen-

eral membership as part of the Guild's communication

program.

Content of mid-month email blasts sent to the general

CAG membership will be restricted to information about

Guild business and events only.

Information which pertains to individual members, such

as show announcements, classes offered, social events,

etc., will not be considered. Members who wish to publish

such information should submit it to this CAG newsletter

or place it on the CAG Facebook page. Thank you!

What it is AOTM?

AOTM is a new opportunity in the Guild for members

to display work. The mission of AOTM is to provide

exhibit opportunities to members of the CAG through

partnerships with area businesses. There are current-

ly 12 locations in the area where artists have the op-

portunity to show their work.

Who is in it?

AOTM is open to every member of the Guild. Just

email Sue Steinhafl if you are interested and she will

keep you apprised of opportunities.

How do you find out about the

show opportunities?

Opportunities are advertised on the AOTM Facebook

page. Once you let Sue know you are interested, you

will also receive emails about upcoming opportunities.

Larger shows or shows at Galleries will also be advertised in the newsletter and on the CAG Facebook page.

The Beauty of Illumination and Gilding

A workshop with Valerie

Master Engrosser and Illuminator

August 2-4, 2016 St. Gregory Parish School, St. Nazianz, WI

Join us in this information packed workshop and learn all you need to create beautiful illuminations. Focusing on the basic patterns of illumination including diaper patterns, acanthus leaf, decorated letters and vines you will learn step by step instruction for making a standard illuminators palette from gouache, application of paint, shading, blending, application of white designs and retouching. We will also be gilding using Instacoll gilding size and making our own shell gold using an ancient Iconographer masters recipe. Lots of color examples as well as black and white illumination patterns will be included in your handout packet to make it easy for you to continue well after the workshop. A background in art is not required to be successful in this course.

Fee: Commuting Students $310, Overnight Students $460. Fees include all instruction, materials, lodging/meals for overnight stu-dents and lunch for commuting students. Accommodations have been arranged with The Holy Resurrection Monastery in St. Na-ziaz, WI. Space is limited and reservations will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis. Icon Writing Workshop In the Byzantine Tradition A workshop with Katherine de Shazer, Iconographer

June 26-July 2, 2016 at St. Gregory Parish School, St. Nazianz, WI

Join us for this information packed workshop and practice first hand the ancient art of icon writing using the egg tempera technique on a natural gesso board. The medium, an egg yolk emulsion, is mixed with finely ground natural pigments and minerals such as lapis lazuli, hematite, or ochre and then is applied in translucent and opaque layers. In addition to the practi-cal aspects of icon painting, the language of symbols and theology in icons as a liturgical art will be presented. Learning icon painting in the tradition of the ancient masters gives one the experience of contemplating the image of God. This workshop is open to people of all faiths and a background in art is not necessary to be successful in this course.

Mary Mendla will offer a Shibori Dyeing workshop at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber arts on March 19 during the Midwest Fiber Arts Trails Cedarburg Spur weekend. The workshop will teach basic techniques in Shibori dyeing on silk. You will create a 14X72" shawl In this two hour class. March 19, 1-3 PM. Register by February 29 at

The Cedarburg Cultural Center

March Artist in Residence Fine artist and Iconographer

Katherine de Shazer

The mystery of Mother Nature, the cosmos and human

nature have fascinated Katherine since she was very

young. One of her favorite mediums to express these

relationships is egg tempera.

The artist will be at the Center demonstrating her art-

work on Wednesdays: March 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 12 - 5

pm. There is no charge to stop in, visit with the artist,

see her artwork in person, and be inspired by her creative

process.

In addition, de Shazer will be teaching a special work-

shop for adults on Saturday, March 5 from 10 am - 1 pm,

entitled "Illuminated Letters." The artist will lead stu-

dents in creating an enchanting gilded card. Working on

vellum, participants will illuminate a word and embellish

it using water-based paints and composition gold leaf to

learn a little of the basics of this centuries-old art

form! Supplies are included, but students should bring a

bag lunch or snack, as a half-hour lunch break is included

in the three-hour workshop. Cost of the workshop is $30

for CCC Members and $38 for Non-Members.

Working from your own 8”x10” or larger photo or drawing of a street scene, your will

transfer it onto watercolor paper and paint in watercolors. You will learn how to add

figures in perspective and with simplicity.

Artists in the Garden

A program that combines art with horticulture, is open to members of

the Cedarburg Artists Guild. Sponsored by the League of Milwaukee

Artists and the Milwaukee County Park System, this one-of-a-kind

event will be set in the Boerner Botanical Gardens at Whitnall Park in

Hales Corners on Saturday, August 20th and Sunday, August 21st. In

addition to an art show, a plein air art competition, a kids art area and

demonstrations by local artists, Artists in the Garden will include

presentations by area horticultural groups, tying art to nature. The fee

for a 10’ X 10’ tent space is $75. Artists will handle their own commis-

sion-free sales and will be included in publicity coordinated by Milwau-

Fine Craft Fair

The two-day show is held on the beautiful grounds of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts and in Red Arrow Park in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. The Morning Glory Fine Craft Fair is open to fine craft artists 18 years or older working in ceramics, digital art, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, pho-tography, printmaking, sculpture, or wood.
