Some of you have realized how vulnerable we are with this past fire. We are CLOSE NIEGHBORS. If one goes the others follow as we have seen with Journeys End disaster. Only 10% units survived out of some 205 homes.
Last month a TV station showed a fire at Mobile Park in San Jose. One of the Mobile homes caught fire killing a senior and two children. The other residents were able to save the neighboring homes with garden hoses until the firemen arrived. This is a good example of keeping debris, furniture, and anything outside that may cause a fire or hider firemen excess. One fire can cause a fire of other homes.
We were fortunate with our Firestorm because Bob Percy, Eric and I used garden hoses to water down homes that were in the line for disaster. The fiery Palm Tree behind Trader Joes spewed huge amount of embers from the dried foliage that landed on the back fence and on all of the units south on Loretta Way, 13 mobile homes gone within 30 minutes because of 70 mile an hour winds. I am told that the key reason that other units were spared was because we watered down Ann and Karl’s corner home Nonie Street and my corner home on Mercie Street.
In my pass newsletters I urged the CME residents to come to meetings when I had a representative of the Fire, Police and Red Cross to present safety-emergency procedures and Earthquake Drills. Sadly not many residents supported the efforts.
WE still have a Homeowners Association which has been inactive for the past few months due to Homeowners lack of interest of the meetings. There are many reasons why we need to support the Homeowner’s Association. We will try for a meeting in Mid- November to discuss the fire, help with homeowners complaints, and the new Managers.
