    Welcome into the Courage team for the 1000 kms of Le Mans 2003 !In this document, you will receive all guidelines for the event.

    Please read it carefully.

    MAIN SCHEDULE:(You will receive a more detailed one for the week -end with the Courage briefings)

    Sporting checks: Friday, November 7th 9.50 am /Scrutineering: 10.20 amFor the sporting checks, you will need:

    Your helmet and racing clothes Your drivers licence An authorization from your National Sporting Authority if you come from a country

    outside the European community

    Mandatory ACO Briefing: Friday, November 7th at 6.30 pm (ACO building Room 305)

    Free Practice sessions (all category):Saturday, November 8th from 9.am to 9.30 am

    Qualifying sessions (Prototypes LMP only):Saturday, November 8th from 11.00 am to 11.30 am and from 14.45 pm to 15.15 pm.Qualification means a lap time at least equal:

    To 125 % of the average of the 3 best laps set by 3 cars of different makes, To 110 % of the best time achieved by the fastest car in each category: "LM"P

    900/"LM"GTP, "LM"P 675, "LM"GTS and LM GT.

    Warm up: Sunday, November 9th from 9 am to 9.30 am.

    Starting Procedure: Sunday, November 9th 11.39 am

    RACE ADVICE:

    Pit lane speed limit: 60 km/hour Use first or second gear Push the black button on steering wheel to operate the pit lane speed limiter

    Warning: Heavy penalties for over speeding

    Scheduled stops:At the entry to the pit chicane

    Confirm by radio, Im coming in Loosen the top of the safety belts

    Then Stop the car in first gear and switch on the ignition (for refuelling) Switch off engine and lights Undo the belt buckle and put it in the initial position

    Unscheduled stop (on top of the previous advices)

    Warn by radio - explain in simple terms the nature of the problem (e.g. tyres, fuel,engine, electric, and so on...)

    At the entry to the pit chicane, confirm by radio Im coming inand give a moredetailed explanation

    At each non-programmed stop after the second lap, we shall refuel (and possiblychange tyres)

    The necessary work will be done on the car The driver will then re-start his stint

    During the pit stop:

    Do not help the driver who replaces you Verify and adjust mirrors if necessary Reset fuel display at every refuelling Take your own drink bottle Radio check with car manager

    Be ready to start according to the signal of the car manager (Engine / Light / GO)

    Restart:

    Fuel reset Start with first gear already engaged Clutch depressed. Start with a small amount of accelerator and release clutch fully Do not slip the clutch and do not spin the tyres Look after the clutch as it has to last the whole race Soft at the beginning Switch the lights on

    Changing discs and/or pads:

    Do not touch the brake pedal You must hold the steering wheel straight (mandatory) Car back on wheels: pump brake pedal several times following order of the car

    manager.

    On the circuit: Memorise the areas of the circuit where gear changes are made Do not forget to tell the next driver if you have moved the brake balance or other

    modifications made to the car Ensure that the pace car rules and instructions are read and understood (see p.5 /

    6)

    Brake balance:

    Avoid bias to front The adopted setting helps avoid tyre flat-spots and reduces wear on discs and pads On wet track, bias towards rear: 2 turns

    Pedal box:Ensure correct positioning: the left foot in corners must not stay on the clutch and

    the heel-and-toe has to be easily accessible.

    Gearbox: Always clutch fully when changing down and up each gear. Braking on the run up. Only downshift at the end of the braking NO BRAKING ON THE GEARBOX

    Breakdown on circuit Always stop on right side of circuit and communicate by radio the number of the

    marshals post; stay in radio contact Whilst working on car, connect the extension lead to the helmet radio in order to

    listen while inspecting the car to discuss with team manager Tool kit The driver must never leave the car without an order from the pits

    Pace car:If the race is under the control of the pace car, check the water temperature on the dash.Ensure that it does not go below the minimum. We will ask what revs you are using tocalculate additional laps possible in case of extended period of control.

    Radio:It is preferable to use the radio only when really needed.When using radio:

    'press' talk button Count 1 start to relay message 'Release button

    When out of the car:

    Computers area and Mechanics tool boxes are a helmet free zone Each driver has at his disposal a specific stage with his name, to put all his

    equipment at the back of the box

    GENERAL DISCIPLINE & SAFETY

    Please respect the racetrack delimited by white lines.Otherwise penalties can be given (cancellation of lap time, stop and go, exclusion of the

    driver)

    In the pit lane area the entrance and the exit is marked by one transverse yellow line.60 km/h speed limit in the pit lane

    The cars have to run LIGHTS ON.

    It is forbidden to drive a car in the opposite direction of the race (Exclusion) except andonly to remove it from a dangerous position under the instructions of the track marshals.

    Should a driver passes$ his pit, the car may only be pushed back to the pit by a maximumof 4 people of the team. Using the reverse gear is strictly prohibited (exclusion).

    "Stop and Go" areaShould the Race Control stop a car with the black flag for a time penalty ("Stop and Go")the driver has 3 laps maximum for driving his car to the "Stop and Go" area.When the timed penalty is over, the driver shall rejoin the race without stopping at hispit.

    Weighting - during the qualifying practice sessions:At the pit lane entrance a flat surface is provided for the weighing procedure of carsselected at random.Drivers must follow the signals made by the marshals and they must stop when the redlight is on (penalties).As soon as he is informed, the driver must switch off the engine and the car is weighed.The driver is notified of the weight of the car in writing.

    Safety CarOne single Safety Car will be used on the circuit. It will have 3 yellow lights on the topand 2 green lights on the top.The Safety car will go on the track with the yellow lights switched on.Once the intervention of the Safety car is over, it will switch off the yellow lights and switchon the green lights.

    FOR THE LAST LAP

    FIRST ROW:Means BOX: the driver must come back to his boxeither for the end of his run or for any other reason .

    SECOND ROW:No information will be displayed.

    THIRD ROW:No information will be displayed.

    Some other information may be displayed on the wall pit board:

    LIGHTSIf your lights are not switched on, to indicate that you must switch the lights on

    + LIGHTSIf your rain lights are not switched on, to indicate that you must switch the rain lights on

    FUEL LOWToo much consumption, you must reduce the consumption.

    TYRESIf for any reason, a tyres change need to occur without a driver's change

    SWMean SLOW : Go slower!

    PHMean PUSH : Go faster!

    AVGKeep the average consumption

    RADIO information:

    When possible (clear lap .every 2 or laps), please announce the consumption when youarrive in the beginning of the straight line

    For the last lap, when you will see the arrow, a team member will say BOX on the radio. Please confirm that you have understood, just by pressing the radio button (or saying BOX if

    you can) If you want /need a drivers change whereas it was scheduled, say DRIVER on the radio at

    least one lap before coming into the pits

    If you have any concerns or remarks on this, you will be more than welcome to discuss it during thebriefings.

    CAR MANAGER BOARD INFORMATION

    Arriving in the box You will see on the Car Manager Board:

    LIGHT OFF

    Departure to the trackBy RADIO from the Car Manager, you will HEAR the following:

    ENGINELIGHTGO

    ENGINE

    The only sensitive areas of a JPX engine are related to Engine over revs that usually occur duringdown shifting.

    9500 is considered a serious over rev

    10000 require an engine change.

    It is therefore essential to drive with respect to your engine and to treat the transmission with care.

    After each qualification period and during the race, we will give engine limits reached by each driverduring debriefings.

    OPERATING PARAMETERS - Notify any variations outside these:

    WATER TEMP min: 65 optimum: 75 max: 90

    OIL TEMP min: 60 optimum: 85 max: 110OIL PRESSURE min: 2 optimum: 6

    GEARBOX min: - normal: 70 max: 90FUEL PRESSURE Running: 5.5 at Idle : -NB: Notify any apparent loss of power by radio

    LAST ADVICE:

    If you have to stop the car on the track, please stop as near as possible of aMarshals post.

    Indicate us the number of the Marshals post.

    Stay in you car.

    The Marshall Chief will put your car in a safe place outside the circuit for you tohave a safe repair area.

    Once you are in the repair area defined by the Marshall (10 meters all around yourcar), you can go out of the car and put your helmet off.

    Dont leave this area.

    If you need to drink or eat, ask the Marshals Chief.

    If someone from the Courage team is coming near the car, he/she has to stay at 10meters from you and the car, and he/she will only be authorized to give you verbalhelp.

    Bases- In the races pace, manage the tyres and the fuel in the two first laps of the stint- Do not try to catch up the time if you had to overtake back markers.- Flash headlights (500m) far away to inform the marshals (Flash 2 sec Flash 2

    sec)

    TyresTyres for 2 stints. Manage the tyres from the beginning.Be careful: deflated tyres when they are brand new. Otherwise put turn back.
