In the East, Greek Orthodox Christianity rose:

Greek Orthodox Christianity was centered in Constantinople.

It was close to the seat of power after Constantinople became the capital.

They used the Greek language in the liturgy (church services and writings)

The Russians were also influenced by Byzantine church architecture and religious art.
