So all these negative karmas, diseases, and so on in the form
of dirtyliquid, scorpions, etc., all fall into the m
outh of the Lord of Death.
When they enter his m
outh, they becomes nectar. H
e then closes hism
outh, which is sealed w
ith a golden double vajra so that it becomes
impossible to open. T
hen the Lord of Death returns to his ow
n place,very far aw
ay, from w
here it is impossible to return, and the earth
closes up.Feel that your body has becom
e like crystal. Everything has been
purified. All the obscurations and negative karm
as have completely
gone. Your body is in the nature of light. Calm
and clear. Concentrate
on this with strong conviction. T

More benefits of the mantra
Even just by w
riting down the letters of this m
antra oneself, or lettingsom
eone else write them
down, one cannot receive harm
from harm
-givers and cannibals, even if they try to give harm
. At the tim
e ofdeath 26,100,000,000 buddhas w
ill directly predict to that person, then1,000 buddhas w
ill stretch out their hands to that person, and thatpractitioner w
ill go from one pure land of the buddhas to another.
Your should not have any doubt about this. By doing this practice,
mountains of collections of negative karm
as will be purified. E
ven ifone’s lifespan is finished, one can postpone death for 100 years. T
hatperson w
ill never be reborn in hell, in the animal realm
s, in the yama
world, or as a preta, and w
ill never be reborn in a realm that does not
have freedom to practice the D
harma. O
ne will rem
ember rebirth in
all one’s lives.
Instructions for the SessionIm
agine that the mantra encircles the syllable H

at Am
itayus’ heart.Som
etimes you can just concentrate on the m
antra syllables aroundthe H
RIH
, but most of the tim
e, you should concentrate on the visual-ization of yourself being purified of all obscurations, negative karm
a,and diseases as described above.
If you can, it would be very good to do at least six rosary (m
ala)rounds of the m
antra in each session. You can do the meditation sev-
eral times each day. T
he best time to do it is w
hen the sun is justrising, but if this is too early at least one should do it in the m
orning.M
orning is a good time to do any practice for spiritual developm
ent.
At the end of the session w
henever you do the meditation, for one
mala round, or at least half a m
ala round, do the following visualiza-
tion while reciting the m
antra. One can also do this visualization at
the end of the purification:Im
agine that all the negative karmas and disease, etc., w
hich youvisualized in the form
of black liquid, pus, and scorpions, etc. are nowpiled up around you like m
ountains. In front of you appears a hugecrack in the earth. Inside, you can see the Lord of D
eath, way dow

aiting for your life, hungry for life.

Benefits of the Mantra
The extensiveness of the m
erit of reciting this mantra just once is
inconceivable.B
y reciting this mantra just once, one creates far greater m
erit thanm
aking statues with three galaxies of precious jew
els, precious gold,silver, copper, and iron. For exam
ple, by making one statue of B
ud-dha, one creates m
erit, the causes of enlightenment, equal to as m
anyatom
s as the statue contains.T
he merit of reciting this m
antra just once is greater than making
statues of the Buddha w
ith a Buddha relic for a thousand eons. T
hem
erit of reciting this mantra once is greater than reading the entire
collection of the Dharm
a. Reciting this m
antra is greater than oneyogi doing all the causative virtue, w
ith the exception of the ocean ofqualities derived from
meditating on the transcendental w
isdom w
ith-out conceptions (em
ptiness). For the yogi who recites this m
antra, thereis no experience of the eight aspects of death and no distractions ofthe three types of suffering. It stops the inauspicious signs and badom
ens. It stops evil mantras, black m
agic, and all other harms. It is
the supreme protection from
the eight aspects of death.O
ne will achieve the holy body of all the buddhas gone to bliss of
the three times and receives the blessings of their glory. O
ne is able toelim
inate hundreds of obstacles.D
ue to the blessings of reciting this mantra, from
the place andthe environm
ent of all the surrounding directions, all obstacles andsicknesses are rem
oved and all auspiciousness received.T
he beneficial qualities of this mantra are beyond concepts. E
venthe buddhas and their princes, the bodhisattvas, are unable to expressthe benefits of this m
antra. The ultim
ate reality of it is the sound ofitself. T
his completes the essence of all the transcendental inconceivable
life.

Generating BodhichittaT
he purpose of long life is to free all sentient beings from suffering
and lead them into peerless happiness and full enlightenm
ent, there-fore I m
ust achieve enlightenment. M
ay I achieve enlightenment
quickly and more quickly in order to liberate the sentient beings from
all their sufferings and obscurations.In order to offer service to sentient beings and to the teachings of
the Buddha, I am
going to practice the long life meditation of A
mitayus.
Also I am
going to do this practice for the long lives of my virtuous
friends and the holy beings who are benefiting sentient beings; for
the long lives of the Sangha, who preserve the D
harma; for the long
lives of the benefactors who sponsor the Sangha and the teachings of
the Buddha; for the long lives of the D
harma practitioners, students,
and so forth; for the long lives of all those who live in the m
oralities,those w
ho are ordained, lay, and Christian m
onks and nuns those ofother religions, and so forth; for the long lives of those w
ho createm
ore benefit for sentient beings and who cause less harm
; for thelong lives of all those w
ho have life obstacles such as cancer, AID

aking charity of your own body, speech, m
ind, possessions, and merits
of the three times, together w
ith all their resulting happiness including enlightnement,
to every hell being, preta being, animal being, and so forth – to all sentient beings.
Because of these m
erits may m
y actions never causeE
ven the slightest harm to any sentient being.
Instead, may they bring only the greatest of benefit.
Whatever suffering or happy life I experience,
May it be only of the greatest benefit to others,
Causing them
to achieve enlightenment as quickly as possible.
