Food

The most important food to the Tlingit was salmon.

In the early spring they would go on what is called “The salmon run”

They also gathered clams and hunted otters.

All of the salmon came from the Pacific.

Clothing

Men and women wore close to the same thing.

The men wore tight pants and blankets made from marmots and other animals.

They also wore jewelry and lots of it. The men also wore a thing called the

potlatch hats they word them to special ceremonies with gift giving to the guests.

Family Life

When boys where 8 years old they went to live with their mothers brother and learned to hunt.

The girls stayed behind and learned traditions.

The boys and girls both learned their clan’s history from the elders.

The relationships were established by the mother’s side of the family.
