Capturx Digital Pen, based on Anoto Technology While a digital pen is easy to use and durable for use in a range of environments, it is actually a sophisticated

computing device that converts any handwritten paper-based information into electronic data that can be modified, manipulated, or shared in leading applications you already use.

Capturx converts handwritten forms, field journal notes, sketches, and annotations on maps and satellite images into digital data. The digital pen looks and feels like a regular ballpoint pen—but contains an integrated digital sensor, an

advanced image microprocessor, and a mobile communications device for wireless connection. As you write, the digital pen scans your writing in conjunction with a digital watermark which is printed by

Capturx software along with the visual information in your form or map. The digital pen records what is written or drawn, and all this data is then stored in the pen’s memory

until you upload it into a Microsoft Windows®-based computer. The Capturx pen can also be used with Fisher pressurized ink pen cartridges, filled with Rite in the

Rain® proprietary ink, enabling you to write in any position and in any condition. Stays charged for up to 10 days of typical use with built in Lithium-ion rechargeable battery.

“MAGIC” PEN-DOT PATTERN

A digital pen looks, feels and writes like a normal ballpoint pen. However, it contains an integrated digital camera, an advanced image microprocessor and a mobile communications device for wireless connection. Using a digital pen on a surface covered with the Anoto dot pattern, you can

capture, store and then securely send the handwriting, enabling you to easily convert ink to digital data – right away.

Almost invisible to the naked eye, the Anoto dot pattern consists of numerous small black dots that can be read by a digital pen.

Every small area of the pattern has a unique combination of dots with different positions. The pattern indicates the exact position of the digital pen as it moves across the surface.

Virtually any surface can be converted into a "digital surface" by covering it with the Anoto dot pattern. This is why you have to use the forms that are created for the pen. It is so the

pen can recognize what it is writing on and it then can digitize the handwriting.

Digital paper becomes on-site reference Anoto Digital Pen technology allows information to be

simultaneously recorded in both written and electronic form. For example, once a paper has fulfilled its role in digitizing

handwritten text, it becomes a conventional paper copy, but the difference is that it can be then be archived for future reference.

Using Anoto Digital Pen technology also eliminates the possibility of losing important written information in the time lag between writing on site and manually inputting the data back in the office.

Once proof read it is uploaded to the Sharepoint server.

Our database then downloads the data from the Sharepoint server to our SQL/Access database at the office.

Data collected in the field is currently written on Rite-in-the-Rain paper and then brought back to the office for archiving.

Once the forms are uploaded to the Capturx website you can proof read the forms from there. To proof the loaded forms: click on the form you want to proof read.

To view what was written in the cell you can do one of two things: You can put the mouse curser over the cell and it will pop up with the actual handwritten value.

You can change the data in the cell by clicking in the cell.

Holding the mouse cursor over the cell will show what the pen wrote.

Once you are finished correcting the form hit the “Approve Form” button at the bottom of the page. Only then until you upload that page it will go into our database back at the office.

The “Save Form” button does just what it says, it saves the form and the corrections that you have made so far but does not upload the form to the database.

This button will save the corrected form, but will not upload the form.. This button 

will upload the corrected form to the database.

WHAT IS MINI MON?

Overview of the MiniMon Application MiniMon provides unattended, around the clock

monitoring for fish marked with an ISO PIT Tag. MiniMon can collect data from 16 or more ISO

transceivers simultaneously. The collected data is transformed into interrogation files

which are partitioned by a specified time interval. An interrogation file is the file that is uploaded that contains

all the pit tags for the designated time window. MiniMon provides visual diagnostic information about

the current interrogation process in addition to robust logging features.

MINI MON

For our purposes we use Mini Mon to take all the pit tags we use in the day and remotely upload them to our Access/SQL database back here at the office.

This why it is important to have Mini Mon running before we start tagging for the day.

MINI MON AND PIT TAGS

Once the PIT tags are uploaded to the SQl/Access database we then match the PIT tag 5 digit code with the PIT tags that Min Mon had uploaded. The full PIT tag codes are uploaded automatically at

5 p.m. daily.
