When we searched for our chosen

artist on Amazon.co.uk we found that

many of the other products that

customers had bought were similar in

genre and style. Most were also newer

artists such as All Time Low, who are a

pop-punk band. This shows that our

audience don’t just like punk-rock

music but stretch their tastes.

However, this could be because online

shopping is more commonly used by

younger people which would mean

their tastes are featured around newer

artists. However, there are also some

examples of older music tastes, such

as the original Green Day albums, and

there are some more obscure bands

such as Marylin Manson or Chiodos,

both of which are metal bands.

My Chemical Romance, and other

popular punk rock bands, have often

been badly received by the mainstream

press. An example of this is the

newspaper The Guardian’s review of My

Chemical Romance’s comeback tour. It

called them “morose self-absorption”

and referred to them as a “wannabe

boyband”. This can show us that the

audience of The Guardian are possibly

less likely to enjoy punk rock music, as

the opinions they read and agree with

are strongly against it.

However, in magazines that are more

focused towards a rock music audience,

such as NME or Kerrang!, the band

(alongside others) are reviewed much

more favourably, receiving 8/10 reviews

for albums and 5 K! stars. This is similar

with other bands of the same genre and

suggests that the band’s fans are more

likely to read these types of magazines.

This suggests to us that designing the album

and video to contain features that have been

prevalent in this magazine to create

popularity.
