Buy local – Hire local – Grow localThe City is committed to proactively supporting and enabling local benefits through considering the dimensions of Buy local, Hire local and Grow local.

1 Subject to the application of the exceptions listed in the Procurement Policy and Contract Manual

For all public tenders over $250,000, the evaluation will include a consideration of what local benefits will be delivered across the following three dimensions. The local benefit evaluation will form part of the capability scoring at a minimum of 20 per cent of the capability total.

For contracts worth less than $250,000, the City will only seek quotes from local businesses in the first instance1 or for contracts worth greater than $250,000 the City will invite public tenders.

Only when the local business; cannot supply, are deemed not capable, or do not provide value for money, can suppliers from outside of the Gold Coast area be invited to quote.

Buy local

Ensuring that our contracted services utilise local manufactured or sourced goods or services in their supply chain.

Hire local

Ensuring that our contracted services utilise local employment, local sub-contracting and local businesses.

Grow local

Ensuring that our contracted services deliver initiatives for local growth and economic development that may include skills transfer, new jobs and technology.

GOLDCOAST

Joint ventures or strategic partnering

with local firms to enable them to access new technology or larger

markets.

Providing new jobs, skills transfer and local training and

career development opportunities.

Committing to local social development

initiatives.

Technology and R&D transfers, introducing new innovations that foster new markets and

eco-systems in the local market place.

Grow local initiativesUnder the Grow local dimension, the evaluation of offers will consider the potential for local benefits from suppliers who bring growth initiatives for the local market. These potential examples may include but are not limited to:

Investing in local apprenticeship and

traineeship schemes.

Provide training and certification that

enhances the ability of local suppliers to obtain

additional business locally, domestically and

overseas.

Member of a Gold Coast Chamber

of Commerce, Gold Coast Business Excellence and other local industry awards.

Supplying to the CityThe Gold Coast is the second largest local government in Australia, undertaking a substantial and diverse range of procurement and contracting activities. The following are the recommended steps to supplying to the City.
