Add-On Functionality for OneData MDMExpanding OneData’s MDM Functionality through web Methods and ARIS Synergies

IntroductionIn Master Data Management (MDM), enterprise data interchange and system interoperability are fast moving targets. Since MDM can only be as successful as its ability to communicate with external tools and processes outside of the MDM repository, it must continue developing its inte-gration capabilities to best serve the expanding requirements of enterprise data management.

Fortunately (and in addition to OneData’s own out-of-the-box enterprise integration capabili-ties discussed in webMethods OneData: MDM Core Concepts and Functionality), OneData MDM is supported by an industry-leading suite of Software AG integration and modeling products, enabling OneData to expand its own functionality and broaden its MDM use cases. These products include the webMethods Enterprise Service Bus (including webMethods adapters), as well as webMethods BPMS.

ARIS Business Process Analysis tool provides direct integration with OneData’s own modeling function, enabling strategic support for process-driven MDM implementations. ARIS MashZone product compliments OneData’s governance process by providing dashboarding of OneData’s workflow activity. This allows data stewards to visually monitor the current status of activities.

Figure 1 – webMethods Integration Server: Data Quality

By leveraging webMethods Integration Server (IS), OneData MDM can perform basic match-ing and cleansing operations. IS data quality services are integrated (via OneData iHooks) into OneData’s customer hub function, thereby bolstering OneData’s support for the entire customer data management life cycle also known as Customer Data Interchange (CDI).

Data stewards can perform probabilistic matching algorithms, which in turn generate a series of specified stewardship actions, depending on whether the candidate record falls into the matching range of “good” or “suspect.”

Address validation from third-party postal directories can be called through Web services. In addition to OneData’s native merging and survivorship rules support, IS provides conditional mapping capabilities that can be called to evoke complex, survivorship rules.

OneData MDM is support-ed by an industry-lead-ing suite of Software AG integration and model-ing products.

Figure 3: webMethods SAP Adapter/OneData Integration

webMethods Integration server (esb) adaptersThis library of adapters provides fast data delivery and language translation between OneData’s MDM repository and popular—if proprietary—enterprise solutions. The deployment of adapters also helps considerably shorten MDM project implementation time, especially in complex and systematically disparate data centers.

In the case of the SAP® ERP solution, for example, the webMethods SAP adapter provides support for SAP’s Application Programming Interface (BAPI), the ability to execute SAP Remote Function Calls (RFC), as well as routing capabilities for iDocs (Figure C).

Additional webMethods adapters are available to support OneData MDM implementations in Oracle®, Peoplesoft® and JD Edwards™ ERP system environments, as well as providing adapter support for Siebel™, Salesforce.com®, IBM® WebSphere® and AS/400®.

external workflow Integration with webMethods bpMsThe depth and breadth of OneData’s MDM out-of-the-box, workflow function can be expanded by calling external, third-party workflow engines. webMethods Business Process Management Suite (BPMS) is one such solution, providing an integrated and additional level of enterprise, data enrichment as part of OneData’s workflow process. Once an external workflow has been executed, control is then returned to OneData.

estandards adaptersAs part of their OneData MDM use case, companies may be required to share gold copy or trusted data sets with external partners or regulatory agencies. webMethods provides a series of industry-specific protocols called eStandards, designed to facilitate data interchange and messaging in order to strengthen MDM collaboration through enhanced B2B communication.

In addition to numerous generic or cross-industry protocols, webMethods eStandards supports the industries shown in this chart: Leveraging the ARIS Platform

leveraging the arIs platformAs a business process analysis tool, ARIS can be used to effectively model any number of enterprise processes, such as continuous process improvements and governance, policy man-agement, requirements management, check in/check out—even SAP roll outs and implemen-tations. Consequently, this makes ARIS an ideal solution in the planning and management of process-driven MDM. By creating a process and business-driven conceptual model (and using non-technical, business friendly terminology), ARIS can help lay the ground work for the realization of an actual, MDM domain, data model.

The technical synergy between ARIS and webMethods OneData MDM is based on the export/import of the XML modeling schemas from ARIS into OneData, thereby by introspecting the ARIS structure into OneData data objects. By leveraging this flexible modeling interchange between the two solutions, the value of ARIS business process modeling can be readily used to build and implement OneData MDM use cases.

arIs MashZoneARIS MashZone is an accessible, easy-to-use information engine for the generation of dash-boards. By combining internal and external data sources for the creation of interactive charts and graphics, ARIS MashZone enables the analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Creating dashboards of special campaigns, competitors or customer satisfaction, are just few of MashZone’s use cases.

webMethods OneData MDM provides out-of-the-box integration with MashZone for the purpose of dashboarding any data internally or externally governed through the OneData Workflow process. Data stewards can chart and analyze completed workflow activity by data object, data column, type of data change (insert/edit/delete), and data steward productivity. Additionally, MashZone functions as a visual monitoring tool, allowing data stewards to quickly resolve any problems with work-in-progress.

notesThis document is a companion piece to webMethods OneData: MDM Core Concepts and Functionality. Given the first white paper’s focus exclusively on out-of-the-box webMethods OneData MDM functionality, it’s recommended this white paper be reviewed first.

Since OneData MDM is part of the webMethods integration platform, it shares the same the same Software AG installer and application server Apache Tomcat™.
