what's happened over the past 1,700 years, and what clues do we
have about the future shape and role of the church in our culture?

Support sought for Medical Mission to Honduras
For the fourth year in a row, Aldersgate ’s Fay Painter, joined this year by
Kathryn Reid, will spend a week in June in the impoverished, remote
mountainous region of central Honduras, bringing life-saving medicine
and health care to children and families. The team of 16 people will
serve 1200+ people with vision care, dental care, medical care, fluoride
treatments, and anti-parasite medicine. Children needing surgery and
ongoing care will be identified and served through an extended care
program and surgical teams.
Fay and Kathryn’s mission trip is with the Friends of Barnabas
Foundation in Midlothian, Virginia, which was started 15 years ago by a
United Methodist minister, the Reverend Linwood Cook. Fay is the co-
leader of the June team. The cost is $2,000 per person, and the team
needs to raise an additional $7,500 to purchase medicine and medical
supplies.
Please consider a gift to sponsor her trip. Checks may be made payable
to AUMC and write “Honduras mission trip” in the memo line. Thank
you, and God bless you.

Our Stephen Ministry is Growing
AUMC’s class of four Stephen Ministers completed their training on May
19 and will be commissioned at both worship services on May 22. The
50 hours of training is broken down into twenty 2 ½ hour sessions on
Chrisan caregiving, including general topics such as listening,
disncvely Chrisan caring, maintaining boundaries, condenality, as
well as topics on specic situaons, such as ministering to those
experiencing grief and caring for people during hospitalizaon.
As members of our congregaon, you can support Stephen Ministry in a
variety of ways:
• Pray for our new Stephen Ministers - Linda Ausn, Kathy Morse,
Charity Reiter, and Mary Seymour, as well as our current Stephen
Ministers as they condenally meet with their care receivers every
week.
• Help idenfy people who might benet from a Stephen Ministry
relaonship. If you see a friend, coworker, neighbor, relave, or
someone else who could use some extra Chrisan care, tell that person
about our Stephen Ministry and get permission to refer him or her to
Pastor Sco Davis, our Stephen Leader who coordinates referrals.
• Be open to accepng care from a Stephen Minister if you are
going through a me of need. Condenality is a cornerstone of
Stephen Ministry. Stephen Ministers don’t reveal anything their care
receiver says, and don’t even tell anyone who their care receiver is. You
may be assigned to a Stephen Minister from another church in the
Charloesville area.
