Spiritual Direc on At Mission Retreat Center

What is Spiritual Direc on? Spiritual Direc on is me spent between two people when one is seeking a path of prayer, self-knowing and no cing God in the midst of daily life. Our God de-sires us to be in a close, never ending rela onship with Him, in spiritual direc on we are remind-ed of there is nothing we can ev-er do that will separate us from God.

What is the role of the Spiritual Director? A Spiritual Director is a companion who is fully present to the directee through deep listening. Someone who is non-judgmental and who is dedicated to crea ng a safe and confiden al space for a the one in direc on.

What happens in Spiritual Direc on? We talk about what’s on the directee’s mind, for exam-ple: What is happening in life that separates you from

living into a closer rela onship with God? How is God present or absent in your life? How do you know God’s direc on for your life?

All spiritual direc on sessions are 50 minutes and are held at the Retreat Center of the Mission. Ques ons? Call 760-757-3659.

A SIGNIFICANT DAY

“And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the en re house in which they were” (Acts 2:2). The Holy Spirit’s arrival on that first Pentecost was signaled by a rush of wind. We all know what it’s like when our windows are open just as a summer storm rises up. Curtains fly, papers become airborne, house plants shudder, dust is sca ered. A rush of wind disrupts the orderliness of our home. The com-ing of the Holy Spirit, as celebrated each year at Pente-cost, can also disrupt ways that have become comforta-ble and orderly. The Church always needs Pentecost. We need the breath of God’s Spirit to blow away any com-placency or malaise that has se led into our faith. Jesus breathes on his disciples and they receive the Holy Spirit. With that recep on comes the power to share the Good News of salva on. Today, this is no less true for us.

The World’s First Love- Bishop Fulton Sheen [232.1] tells us the story of Mary with eloquence and clarifies Marian beliefs. While considering the different phases of the life of Mary, Bishop Sheen discusses various prob-lems common to mankind of all mes. Those Who Saw Her-by Catherine Odell [232.1] pre-sents the stories of the major approved Marian appari-

ons. What is the exact requirement of belief? How does the Church inves gate appari ons, and what is the Church’s a tude toward them? This is intelligent and basic research into a fascina ng and o en misunder-stood area of Catholic belief.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
