Pentecost Sunday
John 15:26-27; 16:12-15 "'Rivers of living water will flow from within him who believes in me.' He said this in reference to the Spirit." Rivers of living water. What does this image make us think of? Something active. Something dynamic and changing, yet constant and dependable. A river with living water is not stagnant; it is not silent, but rather it speaks.
Those who believe in Jesus will be like this river. Through the Spirit of Christ, which first came upon Christian believers at Pentecost and which came upon us at our baptism, we become a source of "living water." This isn't automatic, however. We must cooperate with the Spirit that has been given to us. As St. Paul wrote in his second letter to Timothy, we need to "stir into flame the gift of God" (1:6). The flame may be there, but if we don't fan it through prayer, virtuous living, spiritual formation, and frequent reception of the sacraments, then it will never burst forth with the full power that it could have. But let us take heart! Even this process of "fanning" is made easier when we call upon the Holy Spirit to help us. For St. Paul reminds us today that "the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness."

We now begin the most im-portant aspect of the liturgy, the consecration of bread and wine into the Body and
blood of Jesus. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) says that as soon as the Institution Narrative begins, the Lord is present in the ele-ments of bread and wine. That is why the Church directs the faithful to kneel for this part of the Eu-charistic Prayer. The priest extends his hands over the gifts, and together with the community, says the prayer, giving thanks and praise, and calling upon the Holy Spirit to change our gifts of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, In the most blessed sacrament of the Eucharist the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained. This is a key doctrine of our faith and a teaching that sets Catholics apart from most other Chris-tians. The priest continues to pray the Eucharistic pray-er recalling the events of the Last Supper - the in-stitution of the Eucharist. The priest then holds the consecrated bread in his hands and same with the wine and elevates them to the congregation. At this important moment in the prayer, we proclaim the mystery of faith. There are several texts avail-able; and the congregation follows the priest or the choir to respond.
In the next part of the Eucharistic prayer we pray for unity, we pray for the Church, the Pope, our bishop (or bishops when there is more than one bishop in the diocese). We pray for the living and the dead, and also for ourselves that through the intercession of Mary and Joseph, and all the saints that we may one day joyfully arrive at that table of the Lord in heaven, of which the table on the altar is only a reminder. We look forward to that glori-ous day and raise our voices with those of all the saints who have gone before us as the priest raises the consecrated bread and wine in prayer. This is known as the doxology: a prayer of glory to God in the name of Christ and the priest prays, Through him and with him to which the con-gregation responds, Amen. Our Amen to this prayer acclaims our assent and participation in the entire Eucharistic Prayer. When we pray the Eucharistic prayer, the Church invites us to become the Body and Blood of Christ. The question for us is at what point do we become the Body and Blood of Christ, broken and shared? The bread and wine is not consecrated for its own sake, after all, but for the good of the church and for the world. This question is worth thinking over. Maybe knowing the answer to "when" the bread and wine are transformed will lead to the more critical and personal question as to "why" the Lord comes to us in Holy Communion?

STAINED GLASS WINDOWS
Stained glass windows are being cre-ated for the six window panes in the two rear alcoves. The windows will dis-play the portraits of St. Therese of Liseux, St. Catherine of Sienna, Bl.
Mother Theresa, St. Pope John Paul II, St. John Vianney, and St. Maxmilian Kolbe. This project is being accomplished through the generous support of five donors. Thank you for your kindness to our parish, and may God bless you.
CHILDRENS CHAPEL
The childrens chapel is located in the northeast corner of the church. It is a place to bring your small children to have an upfront view of the Mass. You can enter from the outside entrance at the top of the ramp. This chapel is also open for personal prayer time, Monday through Friday, from 8:45 am to 3:30 pm.

~ 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION ~
Our Lady of Grace Church is holding a Luau in Moloney Center on Saturday, June 27th to cele-brate the 25th anniversary of priestly ordination of our former pastor, Fr. Peter McGuine. This family-friendly event will include a complete Hawaiian roast pork and beef kabob dinner, as well as enter-tainment. Hawaiian dress is encouraged! Tickets are $15.00 per person; Children 12 and under are $7.00. Seating is limited.

The event follows the Saturday, 5:30 pm mass in the church. Doors to Moloney Center open at 6:30 pm. Moloney Center is the par-ish hall for OLG Church located at 2766 Navajo Road, El Cajon, 92020.
The annual Founders Dinner is an evening of fellowship to honor our fellow parishioners and founding families. This year, the honorees are: Albert Klukas, Millie Maraia, and Jerry & Agnes Smith. Bring the whole family for a great buffet din-ner and learn about the history of our parish.
Tickets are available after all the masses at the Kiosk, and at the parish office.

MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE IN NEPAL
On April 25th, a devastating magnitude 7.8
earthquake struck Nepal near Kathmandu, also
affecting nearby parts of India. Avalanches were
reported in the Himalayas, including on Mount
Everest. As the official death toll surpassed
8,046 and injured more than 17,800, Catholic
Relief Services (CRS) emergency personnel land-
ed in Kathmandu, where they will aid the tens of
thousands of people affected by this powerful
earthquake. CRS and our partner Caritas Nepal
plan to support 10,000 families with emergency
shelter, blankets, water4 treatment kits and hy-
giene kits. Because this region is known for
earthquakes, CRS had prepositioned emergency
aid in nearby Bihar, India. Temporary shelter
kits, water purification kits and hygiene kits for
2,000 families are being transported to Nepal for
immediate distribution. An additional 3,000 tar-
paulins will be flown from a hub in Dubai within
the next couple days. CRS is also procuring
emergency supplies in India, and more emergen-
cy personnel are on the way.
The people of Nepal urgently need your help.
Your donation will help CRS immediate re-
sponse and allow us to reach even more fami-
lies affected by this disaster.
