FACTS ABOUT BULLET TRAINSThe bullet train goes 361mph (without Passengers). With

passengers it goes 177mph.In 2003 it had a world record for the fastest train.Japan was the first country to make track for the bullet train. The Japanese were the first to build a bullet train. The bullet train goes fast because it has smooth tracks. Some bullet trains travel up to 185mph some up to 1,500 mph.Japan opened the worlds first high speed railway line between

Tokyo and Osaka in time for the 1964 Olympics.Traveling at the speed of 310mph you can travel to Paris to

Rome just over 2 hours. German and Japan are both developing bullet train technology ,and are both testing prototypes of their own trains.

How bullet trains work. The difference between a bullet train and a normal train

is that a bullet train has a very different engine to other trains. It does not run on normal fuels like diesel, petroleum, coal or electricity. It runs using magnetic energy.

There are magnets in the side of the tracks and there are magnets on the bottom of the train. These two magnets repel (push away from) each other and this makes the train move.

The bullet train floats on a cushion of air which gets rid of friction which means the train can go very fast.

The magnets on the tracks also prevent the train from coming off the tracks.
