___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Van Epps Family, TX - I wanted to tell you how wonderful I thought Camp COPE was. My boys both got so much out of it and asked if they could go to "camp" every Saturday. Even at age 5, I can see them using some of the skills and tools you all provided them with. I especially like the "worry dolls" and they have used them every night since. It seems to be very comforting for them. THANKS to you all again.

Carr Family, NC - I wanted to send my sincere thanks for a FANTASTIC program today. This program went way beyond my expectations. I cannot tell you how excited my kids were to tell me all about their day and to show me all of their things. I have not seen them both that excited about something in a long time. I was not going to stay for the parent program today and I am so very glad that I did. Laura did a fabulous job and really helped me get some incite to help my children. I really hope that you are able to put this program on again because I really feel that military parents and kids need this kind of help! Thank you so much! 2012 AUSA Volunteer Family of the Year Award

Fort Hood Information Sheet

DEADLINE FOR FORT HOOD NOMINEE SUBMISSIONS is March 22, 2012.

Nomination and Submission Process: Nominations for the 2012 AUSA Volunteer Family of the Year Award may be submitted in hard copy or via email to the Army Community Service, Army Volunteer Corps, building 16005 TJ Mills Boulevard and Old Ironsides Avenue. POC is Kimberly D Parker, [email protected]; 254-287-8657. The Army Volunteer Corps will then send packets to the local AUSA chapter for selection to forward.

Please ensure submissions have the following:1. Nominators should complete the “Nominated Family” portion of the nomination cover sheet. (encl 1)2. Provide a 600-800 word narrative (see attached sample at encl 2) describing the nominated Family’s volunteerism,

their overall impact on the community and any awards received. Please do not include pictures or award certificates in your submission packet.

The Award: The AUSA Volunteer Family of the Year Award recognizes an exceptional Army family whose dedicated volunteer service significantly contributes to improving Army well-being and the well-being of the local community.

Sponsorship: For the second year, the AUSA Volunteer Family of the Year Award is being sponsored by TriWest Healthcare Alliance and Express Scripts. Together with AUSA we have partnered to recognize the contribution that families make to the United States Army and to local communities through volunteer service. With their sponsorship, the Family of the Year recipient as well as the first runner up family will be recognized at the AUSA Annual Meeting.

Eligibility: Active Duty, Reserve Component, National Guard, Retiree and Army civilian families are eligible for the award. Previous recipients or runner-up families, current AUSA chapter officers and their families are not eligible for this award.

Nomination and Submission Process: Nominations for the 2012 AUSA Volunteer Family of the Year Award may be submitted only through AUSA chapters. Each chapter may submit up to three families for consideration. The chapter is responsible for verifying each nomination. Please note that the first and second runner up recipients are not eligible to be resubmitted the year following their selection.

Although all nominations must be submitted and verified through a chapter we are encouraging units, family readiness groups, ACS coordinators and others to contact their local chapter if they know of a deserving family.

Each nomination should consist of a completed nomination form with a point of contact, address and telephone number for both the individual nominating a family as well as the nominating chapter and a 600-800 word narrative describing the nominated family’s volunteerism, their overall impact on the community and any awards received. Please do not include pictures or award certificates in your submission packet. A sample narrative is available below. *Please note: Selection of the family is dependent upon the information provided in the narrative.

Judging: Nominations will be reviewed by a panel comprised of representatives from all components of the Army. The panel will select the three outstanding finalists who best represent the selection standards (see below). The AUSA National Awards Committee will make the final selection. The recipients will be notified by the Director of Family Programs. The narrative is the only document seen by the judges and will be in “blind” format with all names and identifying information removed.

Selection Standards: The selection of the award recipient will be based upon the following selection standards:• Family must be active volunteers and (one or more member) must have volunteered for a minimum of two years for

community, installation or unit programs (not necessarily at the same location) beyond what would be expected due to one’s position in a unit or place of employment.

• Family must have demonstrated outstanding leadership in planning, organizing or directing a major event or program that has resulted in a tangible or intangible benefit to the community or Army families.

• Family must have a demonstrable pattern of volunteering and achievement which has been recognized by other awards.

• Family must have exhibited leadership in performing assigned duties that resulted in improved services and/or programs for service members and families or community.

• Involvement in a variety of volunteer programs is desirable.• AUSA Family Programs believes that the entire family supports the efforts of dedicated volunteers, it is not necessary

for each family member to provide specific volunteer service for the family to be nominated.
