SEIZING THE OPPORTUNITIES OF THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION

In 2011, Bull celebrated its 80th birthday. 80 years during which the Group has

never once deviated from its mission: to be a trusted partner to its customers, bringing them all the benefi ts of leading-edge technologies. Bull had an excellent year in 2011: a year of innovation, transformation and ambition. As early as January, we successfully implemented our strategic plan, BullWay 2011-2013, with the aim of setting Bull on the path to dynamic growth and improved productivity. And we put in place a new organization structure centered on four Business Lines that mobilize the Group’s expertise around the biggest current and future challenges of the digital world: Innovative Products, Computing Solutions, Business Integration Solutions and Security Solutions. In parallel, we have streng hened our support functions, most notably with the creation of International & Business Development. BullWay is already bearing fruit, with the Group recording good progress in its commercial momentum and operating profi t in 2011, allowing us to reaffi rm our medium-term objectives.

At the dawn of a new cycle of growth

All these initiatives, however, have been accomplished against a backdrop of uncertainty. A turbulent year, 2011 was marked by various crises. On the ground, the situation is extremely varied from country to country, sector to sector, even company to company. This is the mark of structural change – economic, societal, geo-political – rather than a slow-down in the economic cycle. We are playing a part in the emergence of a new world. So we are at the dawn of a new cycle of growth, fed by the digital revolution. In a private sector searching for a sharper competitive edge and greater innovation, and in a public sector wanting to modernize itself and control its spending, new technologies offer an extraordinary wealth

of opportunities. Bull’s vocation has always been to help its customers seize those opportunities and, as a result, profi t from this momentum.

Technology: passport to a new world

Digital technology – which already generates 30% of global growth – is itself at a historic crossroads. So far it has helped businesses and the public sector optimize their existing activities and processes. But now it has become a direct source of business innovation, inextricably integrated into products and services. As a key source of differentiation, technology is the passport to the new world of the future. This move towards 'Business Technologies' is currently marked by four major trends: the insatiable need for processing power; the transition of information systems towards the kinds of ”as a service” models offered by cloud computing; the ever-closer coming together of IT and business operations; and a much greater demand for security and sovereignty. Precisely the areas where Bull’s expertise is focused.

Bull: a leader in mission-critical digital systems

A rapidly evolving environment offers real opportunities for a player like Bull, which is able to grow by emphasizing and capitalizing on its differences. The only European company operating across the entire IT value chain, Bull stands out because of its commitment to its customers, its pragmatic approach based on technological excellence, its made-to-measure solutions and the trust it has established: all of them also key success factors in our new digital society. Our history and our identity, our agility, our very apposite positioning and our formidable expertise in processing power and security, are all vital assets that underpin our ambition: to be a leader in mission-critical digital systems.

BULLWAY 2011-2013

BULLWAY: A VISION IN ACTION

The aim, in terms of organic growth, is to achieve annual revenues of between €1.35 and €1.45 billion, representing a growth rate around 50% higher than the market. Bull also aims to improve its profi tability*, which should almost double its rate in 2013, to achieve a target EBIT fi gure of between €50 and €60 million. Bull is also willing to maintain its fi nancial fl exibility, so it can consider making further acquisitions in the future in high-potential areas, in order to strengthen the creation of long-term value for shareholders.

A European leader in mission-critical digital systemsBull’s strategy is built around its vision of tomorrow’s digital society and its conviction that the Group has all the human and technological assets needed to be a key player in that society. The BullWay corporate vision is enabling Bull to make the most of those assets, to turn its strategy into tangible results. Through BullWay, the Group is determined to establish itself as a trusted partner to its customers and a leader in mission-critical digital systems, by the end of 2013.

*Profi tability is defi ned as the ratio of EBIT to revenue. EBIT represents earnings before interest and taxes, non-operating and non-recurring items, and contribution of equity affi liates as set out in the annual statement of results.

This plan for growth (2011-2013) and its associated medium-term fi nancial objectives are based on a constant scope of business activities, a gradual economic recovery over the coming 12-18 months and the lack of structural changes in either the main currencies or government investment policies.

INNOVATIONIN ACTION

EXTREME COMPUTING POWER WITHIN EASY REACH

From fundamental physics to oil and gas exploration, from aeronautical engineering to fi nancial modeling, scientifi c computing has become the vital tool pushing back the boundaries of knowledge and innovation. Today, Bull is one of the world leaders in Extreme Computing thanks to its strategic focus on, and expertise in, delivering very high levels of processing power. At the end of 2011, Bull was ranked third in the list of manufacturers of the world’s top 100 supercomputers, and was the only supplier in the world to have implemented three Petascale machines, on two continents, in less than 18 months: Tera 100 for the CEA, Europe’s fi rst computer to break the Petafl ops* barrier; CURIE, in France, for GENCI and the European PRACE initiative; and Helios, in Japan, for the international F4E (Fusion for Energy) program. Recognized for its technological and project management expertise, Bull leverages its HPC cloud solutions with extreme factory and its fl agship bullx supercomputers. The balanced, fl exible and robust architecture of bullx gives institutions, European and Latin American universities and companies of all sizes, in every sector, access to very high levels of processing power: from AWE in the UK and the CEA in France, to BBVA, Dassault Aviation, Petrobras and Sonaca. Having built Europe’s two most energy effi cient supercomputers, energy is also one of Bull’s key priorities: for example, its revolutionary cooling system has boosted the energy performance of bullx by 40%.

The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) chose Bull to implement its new high-performance computing environment, designed to improve the precision of its weather forecasts. Now, thanks to its bullx supercomputer – featuring the exclusive water-based cooling system – and Bull’s extensive range of expert services, KMNI has an exceptionally energy effi cient turnkey solution which is forty times more powerful than its old infrastructure.

EUROCONTROLSECURES ITS CRITICAL APPLICATIONS

As a Europe-wide body set up in 1960, Eurocontrol manages civil and military air traffi c movements for the whole continent, to maximize safety and keep costs and environmental impact to a minimum. Eurocontrol’s application portfolio consists of almost ten million lines of code and 25 applications, two of them key pillars of air traffi c safety: one that validates the 26,000 fl ight plans submitted every day by airlines, and the other enabling fl ight paths to be adjusted and redistributed in real time in case of unforeseen circumstances, especially adverse weather conditions. Eurocontrol’s biggest challenge is safety, which depends heavily on the continuity of service provided by these applications. To guarantee the reliability and sustainability of its application development and support, Eurocontrol wanted to forge a strategic, long-term partnership with an expert in mission-critical digital systems. In Spring 2011 the 2GETHER consortium, formed by Bull and Tata Consultancy Services, was chosen for this fi ve-year contract worth €43 million, to run and deliver application development for Eurocontrol. In particular, Eurocontrol was won over by Bull’s commitment and the industrial nature of its IT, as an expert in security and complex, critical environments. In particular, Bull’s role is to rationalize the management of the software portfolio and move it towards a service-oriented model, making it easier to hire new talent and capitalize on know-how, while also helping to cut costs. This new approach has been up and running since the start of 2012.

Aware of the key role of new technologies in its changing role and its citizens’ expectations, the Languedoc-Roussillon region chose Bull to help it design, develop, secure and run its information systems. In particular, Bull has been responsible for implementing the council’s business management system, featuring a number of function-specifi c modules as well as shared yet personalized monitoring tools. In 2011, this development won a coveted SAP Quality Award.

LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON REGIONRELIES ON DIGITAL SYSTEMS

The public sector has always been one of Bull’s main areas of excellence. The Group not only understands the specifi c characteristics of each type of organization (government departments, local authorities, customs bodies, social security agencies …) but also their shared need for robustness, security, cost control and operational effi ciency.

O BOTICARIO BULL’S TELECOMS EXPERTISE ON A CONTINENTAL-SCALE CHALLENGE

As one of Brazil’s leading cosmetics companies, O Boticário has over 3,000 franchises and one of the largest distribution networks in the country. Covering a geographic area the size of a whole continent, and in an equally dynamic sector, the company’s operational effi ciency, its vibrant energy and its management require a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure and total robustness. Since 2004, Bull Latin America has been meeting this unprecedented challenge by providing O Boticário with a global, turnkey communications solution along with telecoms operator Embratel. This innovative system – which includes infrastructures, software and services – gives each retail outlet high-speed access to point-of-sale and stock management applications via a satellite link in SaaS (Software as a Service) mode, four HD video channels and an electronic payments solution. Bull provides all the IT systems and services as part of the solution, and is responsible for its design, integration, implementation, operation and maintenance. To meet the technical and logistical challenges on such a large scale, Bull has developed an innovative methodology and tools, such as a device that eliminates the inherent delays in the satellite link and the mirroring of this link with a back-up system utilizing the GSM network. From its Services Center (enhanced with new bullion™ servers) Bull manages everything from applications and service levels, and user support, right through to control of the satellites used. In 2011, O Boticário renewed the contract for a further seven years.

Morocco’s third largest operator, inwi, has made technology a key differentiator at the heart of its success. As a global partner – providing everything from hardware infrastructure (Escala servers) to core business applications – Bull has built a robust and fl exible integrated system, well-suited to inwi’s extensive range of constantly evolving offerings (fi xed, mobile, Internet, business…). In 2010, after its initial success in the fi xed market, inwi and Bull created all the elements of a mobile offering, in very tight timescales, winning in 18 months six million subscribers and 20% of the market.

INWI GOES FROM SUCCESS TO SUCCESS

The telecoms sector combines all the challenges that play to Bull’s strengths: very high-level technologies, the absolute necessity for security and interoperability, and fl exibility in the face of a dynamic market. As the trusted partner of telecoms operators worldwide, Bull stands out thanks to its ability to develop integrated, innovative end-to-end solutions.

Faced with greater pressure on security, regulatory changes, increased competition and the constant race for innovation, the fi nancial sector is experiencing an unprecedented IT revolution. Technology is now right at the heart of banking and insurance activities, where Bull applies its unique combination of sector experience and technical expertise.

EXION ENABLES THE BANK OF THE FUTURE

In recent years, e-banking and all forms of remote banking have expanded rapidly. But because they have been developed in response to needs, the tools used do not always have the quality and rich functionality that customers have a right to expect from their bank. In order to align the various channels, rapidly develop new services and offer high levels of security and performance, an industrialized approach to e-banking is becoming essential. Which is why Bull’s Polish subsidiary, AMG.net, has developed eXion; a unique e-banking platform using state-of-the-art technologies and practices from the sector, which enables all channels (Web, mobiles, call centers) to be fully integrated with consistent functionality, business logic and appearance. Packaged, secure and fl exible, eXion is quick to integrate and deploy, making it easy to add new products, services or channels at a later date. It offers numerous functions (self-care, transactions, payments) appropriate for all kinds of customers. Expert support from Bull allows banks to capitalize on the fl exibility eXion offers, to build the best solution for their specifi c needs. eXion has been successfully adopted by numerous Polish banks including Podkarpacki Bank Spoldzielcsy (PBS), the country’s biggest cooperative bank, Meritum, MR Bank and BRE Bank, one of the largest business banks, whose iBRE application was voted the best integrated e-banking solution in Eastern and Central Europe by Global Banking in 2010.

NATIXIS SECURES ITS TRADING DESKS

In order to strengthen its operational security, Natixis – the corporate, investment and fi nancial services arm of the BPCE group* – awarded Bull Evidian the contract to implement an authentication and access control solution for the trading desks in its dealing room. Based on a biometric tool that recognizes blood veins, the system is well suited to the trading environment, its procedures and trading activities. The solution, which is fully regulatory compliant, has resulted in security, reliability and productivity improvements for the bank’s 750 traders.

Business Intelligence, a specialist issueAnalytical tools are becoming more specialized, as they increasingly take on an essential role in public and private sector organizations. But they also face new technical challenges, which is why Bull has brought together three key BI skills in its specialist services centers: in-depth knowledge of sector-specifi c operational needs (local authorities, telecoms), expertise in the main BI tools (Microsoft, SAP) and capabilities around critical infrastructures, which enable the Group to fully understand issues of scale, security and performance.

visibull, no more data leakageTo help its customers identify possible data leaks, Bull Security Solutions has designed visibull™, an innovative Data Leak Management (DLM) solution. As a preventive tool, visibull identifi es and dynamically references sensitive documents based on a specifi c set of rules (keywords, recipients), establishes a footprint so they can be recognized even if they have been altered or camoufl aged (using cut-and-paste, data capture), and monitors network fl ows (e-mail, webmail) to detect any inappropriate data leaks.

With a presence in over 50 countries and an extensive range of specialist, highly competitive offerings, Bull has signifi cant growth prospects, especially internationally, among its key accounts and in its strategic sectors. International and Business Development is committed to realizing that potential, by capitalizing on these vital assets.

To support Bull’s four Business Lines in their sales activities, especially on the international stage, Bull has established a cross-divisional entity: International and Business Development (IBD). In 2011, IBD set up dedicated units to directly address certain high-potential markets such as the Gulf States and Asia, as well as an international agency to work in countries where Bull has no direct subsidiary. IBD is also responsible for making the most of synergies within the Group, to support customers and markets that require global, highly sector-specifi c solutions. So the team has boosted the coordination needed to approach key accounts with particular challenges demanding special attention: intimate knowledge of the customer, cross-divisional solutions, functional or sector expertise.

The results of these actions are clear, even in this fi rst year of operation, with a sustained increase in orders, especially from Bull’s international operations. In some particularly dynamic countries such as Belgium and the UK, despite the diffi cult economic climate, the local teams have proved – through their initiatives and innovations – that real opportunities exist for Bull.

In 2012, to win even more new customers, IBD is planning to extend its avenues for growth and accentuate its sector-specifi c approach in the public sector, fi nance, defense, telecoms, energy and healthcare; all businesses that share the need to create huge amounts of data and operate critical systems with very strict security and performance requirements: the very heart of Bull’s expertise.

In a hi-tech company like Bull, developing human capital is strategic in terms of competitiveness and performance. Which is why, focused around its recently-renewed corporate values, the Group is investing in new talent, growing its skill base and career development.

In a business based on skills and trust, Bull sees individual accomplishment as the best measure of collective success, and that is why developing its human capital is central to its strategy. Above all, this is refl ected in a recruitment policy that encourages diversity: a rich source of shared improvement for the Group’s teams. Bull also emphasizes skill development to support people’s career momentum, via apprenticeships, training and job mobility; with managers playing a key role in developing talent.

Commitment, agility, team spirit; through these shared values, Bull hones its employees’ sense of responsibility, initiative and mutual support, boosting its business

momentum. Commitment to customers enables the Group to develop the trusted relationships needed to establish close, long-lasting partnerships. By encouraging cross-divisional working and mobility, Bull also promotes agility: a key success factor in our rapidly evolving economic, technological and social landscape. And to create favorable conditions for innovation, the Group cultivates team spirit and draws on its highly diverse range of skills and personalities to enhance collective performance. Finally, Bull pays special attention to its organization structures, working methods and social environment: vital for day-to-day career development.
