Uniform Building By-Laws (UBBL) 1984:Section 89: A chase made in a wall for pipes and other service facilities shall leave the wall at the back of the chase not less than 100 millimetres thick in external walls and not less than 100 millimetres thick in a party wall and shall not be wider than 200 millimetres.Section 123: Where ducts or enclosures are provided in any building to accommodate pipes, cables, or conduits the dimensions of such ducts or enclosures shall be - (a) adequate for the accommodation of the pipes, cables or conduits and for the crossings of the branches and mains together with supports and fixing.

Street, Sewage and Drainage Act 1974:Section 57: (1) No water pipe, stack pipe or down spout used for conveying surface water from any premises shall be used or be permitted to serve or to act as a ventilating shaft to any drain or sewer.

Power Supplied/Regulated by: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB)

Electricity Supply Act 1990:Regulation 15: Any conductor or apparatus that is exposed to the weather, water, corrosion, undue heating or use in inflammable surroundings or in an explosive atmosphere shall be constructed or protected in such a manner as to prevent danger.Regulation 16: Any fuse or circuit breaker shall be constructed and arranged in such a manner so as to break the current when it exceeds a given value for such a sufficient time to prevent danger and constructed guarded or placed in a manner as to prevent danger of over-heating, arcing or from the scattering of hot metal or other substance.

ELECTRIC METER

Installed and monitored by TNB. Mounted at the outside of the house to keep track of the power usage of the household.

CEILING FAN

A mechanical fan suspended on the ceiling to circulate air in a wide area.

13A SWITCH SOCKET OUTLET

Categorised as BS1363, is the main plug for Malaysia as well as 50 other countries. Comes with a fuse to protect from overload.

20A DOUBLE POLE SWITCH

A common switch for water heaters and air-conditioning. Usually includes a red neon indication light.

TELEPHONE OUTLET POINT

Used for connecting between the house phone and the local telephone network.

DISTRIBUTION BOARD

Installed near the main door. Acts as a terminal to divide the power feed into subsidiary circuits as well as providing a protective fuse for each circuit.

CEILING MOUNTED LIGHT FIXTURE

A light fixture that has a hollow opening in the ceiling. The hollow design allows the light to be concentrated downwards.

WATER METER

Installed and monitored by SYABAS. Mounted at the outside of the house to keep track of the water usage of the household.

UPVC PIPE

Made of unplasticised polyvinyl chloride, it is rigid, durable, does not flex, fire resistant and recyclable. Good for transporting water.

COPPER PIPE

Used for supplying hot or cold water due to its higher melting point. Able to withstand impact and abrasion.

S TRAP

A plumbing fixture connected to toilets and sinks. Its bend is to prevent sewer gases from entering the household.

VENT COWL

Located at the rooftop, it always sewage gas to escape and not accumulate in the piping system. Can be turned upwards for maintenance and inspection.

STOP VALVE

Controls the flow of water through the pipe. Located at multiple fittings for easy maintenance and repairs.

HDPE WATER TANK

Its high density polyethyrene composition makes it ideal to store and distribute water as it is corrosion resistant.

WATER HEATER

An electric heater that provides warm/hot water by heating the water.

Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia (DID):The local authorities and DID are liable for drainage. The local authorities manage the construction and maintenance of the local drainage system, composed of trunk drains and secondary drains. It is their responsibility that the system is not choked nor blocked. The rivers flowing within and outside the local authority areas are covered by DID. DID makes sure that drains and rivers do not cause flooding through overspilling by setting adequate capacities for them.

Uniform Building By-Laws (UBBL) 1984:Section 115: All roofs and buildings shall be constructed as to drain effectually to suitable and sufficient channels, gutters, chutes or troughs which shall be provided in accordance with the requirements of these By-Laws for receiving and conveying all water which may fall on and from the roof.

Stormwater Drainage System By-LawRegulation 56: No pipe used for the carrying off a rainwater from any roof shall not be used for the purpose of carrying of the soil or drainage from any privy or water closet or any sullage water.

KITCHEN SINK

A sink in the kitchen which is directly connected to service pipe. Normally made of stainless steel.

WATER CLOSET

Receives solid waste and stores water to flush the waste away from the household. Its ceramic properties allow it to be waterproof and easily cleaned.

BATHROOM SINK

A hygienic device used for daily activities such as cleaning hands and brushing teeth to keep the user clean and healthy.

FLOOR TRAP

Allows water on the floor to escape through the wastepipe into the manhole. Made of metal or plastic materials with a removable grating.

GULLLY TRAP

Located outside the building, it carries wastewater discharge from the kitchen and laundry as well as preventing foul odours from the sewers from reaching the surface by having a water seal.

MANHOLE

A top opening to an underground utility vault used to house an excess point for making connections, inspections, valve adjustments or performing maintenance.

PERIMETER DRAIN

A trench filled with gravel or rock which contain a perforated pipe that brings surfacewater and groundwater away from the building, preventing possible floods.

GUTTER

Attached to the eaves of the roofs. Directs the rainwater from the roof to the rainwater downpipes.

RAINWATER SUMP

A low space that collects undesirable liquids such as water or chemicals. Can also function as an infiltration basin to manage surface runoff water or recharge underground aquifers.

RAINWATER DOWNPIPE

A vertical pipe that controls the flow of rainwater to the ground, thus protecting the building from water damage.
