BUILDING ‘JAYAMMA MANE’

Appeal for support for a home for the destitute in Rural Bangalore

MEET JAYAMMA.

THIS IS HER STORY.

An 80-year-old resident of Doddaballapur, in rural Bangalore, Jayamma lived with her family. She lost her husband, and then, her only son. Her family threw her out of their home, and she survived on her meagre pension of ₹500/$8 a month. She narrated her story to Rakesh Shukla, founder of VOSD, and VOSD for People, when she hitched a ride to the bus stand in his van. A few months ago, her situation had deteriorated so much that she jumped into a well, and killed herself.

‘DESTITUTE’ IS A HORRIBLE WORD.

THE REALITY IS WORSE.

A PROMISE MADE TO JAYAMMA.

5 years ago, we promised Cookie that no abandoned dog would have to suffer like she did. The VOSD Sanctuary was built in her name, and now houses 750 dogs who were abandoned, injured, and had no place of their own.

We lost Jayamma, but we can’t leave the destitute of rural Bangalore without a clean, safe home. A place where they can spend their last days in peace. Be provided for. Kept safe.

Jayamma Mane – Kannada for Jayamma’s Home.

At VOSD, we already provide large-scale nutrition, and medical care. We have sound processes, and technology expertise. We are committed.
