As a newer school in the community, it takes time to build accomplishments.

The students have a lack of belonging because they are not aware of the benefit the school has brought them over the years.

In order to appreciate something you must identify yourself with it, and so you must know more about it.

The school’s 20th anniversary celebration is a perfect time to create new connections and traditions for the school and the community.

SITUATION WHO WAS INVOLVED OBSERVATIONS WHY IS IT IM PORTANT

Pictures Investiagation Date: January 22, 2011Place: School’s Library

Students who were in the library, specificly seniors.

The students seem to be very interested in the project. They really like the idea of the time capsule.

This is an unexpected behavior, students are actually interested in being involved with the project.

Diagnose Realization. Date: February 6, 2011Place: Classrooms

11 and 12 graders.

Studens don’t know the date when the school was foundated. They have to look at the school’s logo in their t-shirts to answer.

This shows that students don’t really know very basic things about the school’s history, nor do they know deeper details.

Cultural Week

Date: February 23 y 24, 2011Place: GI School’s cafeteria.

All highschool students.

In one of the activities the students showed the lack of interest and disrispect towards a musical group that was invited to the school. This kind of behavior leaded to the cancelation of the other activities.

This shows that students don’t really care about the image they are projecting to the outside community. Confirming my thesis: because they don’t know who they are they don’t love what they have.

Letters to the futureDate: Mars 22 2011Place: Classrooms

All GI School Students (preeschool to highschool)

I observed a very positive response to the idea of writting letters to their future selves.

This shows that students are interested in making projections of the school. Also they like to feel directly involved with a futuristic event.

Interviews Date: Mars 22-2525. 2011Place: Interviewees’ offices

Interviewees

Each time someone was interviewed they showed their satisfaction of being included and feeling involved with the project.

This is very important because this shows that the project is working The whole community is involved and that the community likes the project.

Time’s Capsule BuringDate: May 20 2011Place: GI School

Members of the community

The members of the community seem to be very interested in giving a little of themselves to the time capsule.

This ceremony, along with the 20 years celebration has generated s type of ritual where the sense of community is showed.

CONCLUSIONScreativitymachine.netAll the objectives were accomplished

The hypothesis was validated

There is still a lot to do in order for the school to have a greater sense of community, (a process that takes time)

PROJECTIONScreativitymachine.net

Over the next ten years, the collection ofmaterials and incorporation of school spirit in thecommunity and school should continue to be developed.

The time capsule will be opened in ten years. People who wrote letters will open them and on the back of the letter, they should write a description of what has changed.

The investigation then will be about the impact of the project on the sense of community and on the improvements in the sense of belonging to the school in the past ten years and continue into the future.

RECOMMENDATIONScreativitymachine.netThe area of Community Outreach (Proyeccion a la Comunidad)

Should have some type of control through surveys.

The idea with these surveys is to know how the perception of the students and the community changes over time.

Due to the fact that the sense of community is a process in time, there are lots of rituals that should be kept, as well as many other aspects. (Events, mutual respect, etc.)
