FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Building Community: Australia’s Biggest

Morning Tea

Torrens Valley Christian School is built on faith in Jesus

Christ, providing excellence in education and teaching

servant, leadership, compassion, respect and

responsibility for the world in which we live.

Every year, Torrens Valley Christian School participates in running an event for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea

in support of the Cancer Council. And this year was no different!

What a beautiful morning it was! Students from Vetamorphus and the Student Leadership Team, did a great job

planning, setting up, preparing platters and serving a delicious morning tea of cakes, biscuits and other goodies

for our community to share at morning tea time and raised over $850 in support of cancer research.

We were inspired by our speaker, past scholar, Matthew Parker, who spoke to students in Years 7-12 about his

family’s journey with cancer. His story touched the hearts of the audience who were inspired and encouraged by

his message. This special assembly together also included musical items from our staff band, the Year 9 band and

Revampt band.

Our Chaplain, Margaret Garland led students in a time of prayer and reflection for families who have lost dear

ones to cancer or who have been touched by the disease or are currently undergoing treatment. Students were

reminded that through Christ we have strength for today … and certain hope for eternity.

God’s Word gives hope in times of difficulty with the words from Isaiah 26:4 'Trust in the Lord forever, for the

LORD GOD is an Everlasting Rock.'

TVCS has held an Australia's Biggest Morning Tea event for the past 18 years with over $12,000 being raised for

Cancer Council SA!

Funds raised from Australia's Biggest Morning Tea will help the Cancer Council continue its vital work in cancer

research, prevention and support services.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day such a success.

SACSA PRIMARY ATHLETICS

On Friday 5th May, our Primary Athletics team headed to SA Athletics Stadium to compete in

the annual SACSA Athletics Carival. We took 59 competitors and the Year 11 PE class, who

helped to run an event and act as team managers on the day.

Nineteen Christian schools took part on the day, and TVCS was placed in Division 2 for the

carnival, as SACSA trialled a three-division carnival for the first time.

Our students competed really well all day, gaining top-three finishes in a large number of

events and even setting a new TVCS record in one event (which had stood since 2003).

At the end of the day, we were fairly confident of getting a top-three finish in our division. Our Year 7 Sport Captains made

their way to the presentations, where we discovered we had finished in equal 2nd place in our division.

It was then announced that we had finished 1st in the Challenge Shield, which is awarded to the school with the most

number of points per student. This was an exceptional achievement, and a great result for our students.

Andrew Loechel (Primary PE Coordinator)

SAPSASA CROSS COUNTRY EVENT, BULKANA

On Friday, 17 May some of our year 4 to 7’s spent the afternoon competing in cross country events with some of our local

South Australian Primary Schools at Bulkana Oval. Our students represented our school well, giving their events their best

effort. Congratulations in particular to:

Thomas Butson 2nd place 11:01 for 3 km

Eliana Christie 5th place 14.04 for 3 km

Bryson Reid 3rd place 10.04 for 2 km

Abigail Franklin 6th place 11.13 for 2 km

These students have qualified for the SAPSASSA cross country to be held on 1, June at Oakbank.

Thanks to the parents who joined us there and helped to Marshall or simply supported our students.

Bryan Franklin (Primary Coordinator)
