TRANSCRIPT

In Malaysia, the British Standard (BS) has been

the main source of structural design code.

However, since 2010, the design code has been

withdrawn and is progressively replaced by

Eurocode 2.

In line with the latest amendment of Uniform

Building By Laws (UBBL), relevant authorities

have made compulsory the full implementation

for adoption of Eurocode 2 (EC2) by practicing

engineers in the industry for submission

purposes.

To prepare local structural engineering

practitioners for the adoption of the Eurocodes in

the design of reinforced concrete building

structures, this 2-day course will focus on

analysis and design of reinforced concrete beams

in accordance with the requirements of EC2. The

course consists of lectures (theory and solved

examples) as well as hands-on tutorial sessions

to provide participants with practical design

experience.

1. Introduction to Eurocode 2 2. Durability, Materials and Actions 3. Structural analysis:

i. Load combination and arrangement.

ii. Linear analysis, iii. Redistribution of moments

4. Flexural design: i. Failure mode, ii. Bending resistance, iii.Bending design

5. Shear design: i. Failure mode, ii. Shear resistance, iii.Shear design

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Apply the serviceability limit state and durability requirements based on the Eurocode 2 standard;

Design rectangular and flanged reinforced concrete beams according to

Eurocode 2 requirements: flexure, shear and torsion.

Prepare detailing RC beams to Eurocode 2.

*Images taken from the internet

6. Design for Torsion: i. Failure mode, ii. Torsion resistance, iii. Torsion design

7. Detailing reinforced concrete:

i. Bar spacing, ii. Anchorage, iii. Lap splicing

8. Serviceability Limit state design:

i. Deflection, ii. Crack width

Civil and structural engineers and

academicians observing their

design capability and knowledge

in using Eurocode 2

Associate Professor Dr Bashar S. Mohammed is

currently the Head of Department of Civil Engineering

Department, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP).

He has over 20 years of professional structural engineering

experience as an academician, researcher and engineer in

various parts of the world.

Dr. Bashar has published more than 100 peer refereed research papers.
