1961 Thunderbird

Belinda Kelly, a.k.a Rat Pink is no rookie when it comes to 4 wheels. From the early ageof 12, Ms. Pink would spend her summer vacation wrenching at her dads automotive

shop while other girls her age threw tea party's and played house. In 2006 whilesearching out a new project, she and good friend Jon came across a 1961 Ford T-bird.The car was rough, but complete (minus fender skirts) and only $200, it was perfect.

Several years later, Bilinda's 61 T-bird has received a second chance to burn up the streets*##V$"X""#%

The Gearheads WifeBANG! THUMP! CLUNK! Rattle, rattle, rattle.... “What did you just drive over?!” asks my BFF while we chat on my hands free. I spend the rest of our conversation explain-ing that it’s the shocks, or struts?! I don’t know but it’s not urgent. The car still works and it’s not dangerous...Well, I am assuming it’s not dangerous, since my husband is aware that the kids obviously ride with me! Then, she asks a question that gets my wheels turning... “If you’re mar-ried to a mechanic, why is your car in such rough shape?” The honest answer is pretty simple, my car is not cool. It’s just for commuting, therefore it does not deserve regular oil changes or maintenance. You know how there’s some hair dressers that are just so prestigious, they only accept certain clientele – I think it’s like that. Thinking a little bit deeper into the subject, I start to wonder why he feels that “I” am not deserving of a well tuned, decent vehicle??? Is he not embarrassed that his wife drives a car with the bumper falling off, winter tires in August, squeaky breaks that you can hear from blocks away, and a rear end that thumps and bangs and bounces like crazy over any little bump?! Not to mentioned that he has four vehicles to my one. It seems that I could complain until I’m blue in the face. The fact is he doesn’t give a crap about my car. The fuel consumption is way too high to consider driving any of his vehicles – not like he’d let me :P Sigh... The dreaded oil light is on so I just take it to Walmart. I don’t even re-member the last time the oil was changed! I throw my all seasons in the back and get them to change the tires too. bumper has to be done in an ICBC approved shop anyway (and paid for by the idiot that rear ended me). OMG! This is so easy, book the appointment and get the shocks replace at the same time. Sure “we” are paying more for some-thing that he could do himself. I conveniently leave the receipt on the counter for him to see. Next time I’ll ask about going back to the shop and see what he says. This might be the end of nagging! Ha ha, now only if I can hire someone to take out the garbage and pick up after him!

-zine. The Gearheads wife article is greatand freakishly true. I think every wife out there married to a car guy goes through thesame stuff at least once if not repeatedly. Keep it coming. Susan R from Maple Ridge

LOL, you don’t know how close to the truth that article really is. Build
