Phil Housley is in his first season behind the bench for the Sabres after being named the 18th head coach in Buffalo’s franchise history. The Hockey Hallof Famer and former Sabres defenseman is the seventh alumnus to serve as the team’s head coach. Housley joined the Sabres after helping to guide the Nashville Predators to their first ever Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2016. Named an assistantcoach on May 22, 2013, Housley was a driving force behind one of the NHL’s best defensive groups throughout his tenure. A native of South St. Paul, Minnesota, Housley began his coaching career in 2004 as head coach of Stillwater Area High School in Minnesota. Travis Green was named the 19th Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks on April 26, 2017 and will enter his first season behind an NHLbench.
