Car chases and explosions are also typical for this type of genre.

Liam Neeson is the main actor in the film; this could be the unique selling point as he is a famous and well known character.

The toy panda which the hero gives to his daughter shows that he is an affectionate father as is not just the stereotypical masculine hero as he is also sensitive. This could make the audience appeal to him more as he has two sides to his personality. It suggests that he is like an ordinary person and anyone can have his

Longer length shots are used at the beginning to show the equilibrium whilst shorter length shots are used nearer the end as the scenes are more chaotic and fast pace.

Fade to black is the main transition used. Often as the transition occurs, a non-diegetic sound of a bullet is heard. This could connote people being shot which reinforces the typicality of the action genre but it also builds tension.

The shots between the funeral which is calm and solemn contrasts the action and fast pace shots.

strength and courage. This links to the Uses and Gratification theory as the audience may watch this film to identify with a character they would inspire to be like.

There is an American police car in a car chase to emphasise the action genre.

The protagonist takes of his dark glasses when he sees his daughter connoting that he is a mysterious person as he was hiding his identity. It could also suggest that he has two different personalities, he is tough and powerful but when he is with him family he is more sensitive and can be himself.
