Camera Sound

An extreme long shot is used at the beginning which the establishing is shot showing the equilibrium, the first of Toodorov’s Narrative Stages. The shot pans to show the tranquillity of the scene.

A low angle is used to connote the power and superiority that the hero has.

Extreme close ups are used to show the extreme emotions of the characters, this could be to emphasise their fear and distress.

A low angle is also used to emphasise the height of the character falling.

A soft piano sound is used at the beginning to show the calmness before the equilibrium is disrupted.

Voiceovers are often used in this trailer. One of them is a sinister voice saying ‘everyone you love will be dead’ which identifies the villain, one of Propp’s Character Types.

Another non-diegetic voiceover is the hero saying ‘I’m going to finish this.’ This is said in a masculine and dominant voice which stereotypes the manly hero identity.

The music in the background is tense and a little chaotic to link with the fast pace action.

There are lots of non-diegetic sound effects, this includes the bangs from explosions, firing guns, glass smashing and when the car crashes.

The iconography is icon for this type of action and thriller genre as it includes props such as guns, knives and helicopters.

Car chases and explosions are also typical for this type of genre.

Liam Neeson is the main actor in the film; this could be the unique selling point as he is a famous and well known character.
