Bucknell University seeks applicants for a Staff Psychologist in the Counseling and Student
Development Center. The Counseling & Student Development Center offers a wide range of
services to help make the college years more satisfying, rewarding, and productive. Our
programs are designed to help students grow in self-understanding, to help them use their
intellectual and emotional resources as effectively as possible and to provide a supportive "safety
net" at those times when they encounter difficult or painful life circumstances.
The Staff Psychologist: 1) provides counseling to students experiencing personal adjustment,
vocational, developmental and/or psychological problems, 2) provides prevention and
educational services that help students effectively meet their academic, community and personal
life goals and responsibilities, 3) provides support for the healthy development of individual
students and the campus community through consultation and outreach services, 4) contributes to
the overall health and wellness of the campus community, 5) contributes to the assessment of
services and to the advancement of colleagues' professional development, and 6) upholds ethical
principles and promotes best practices of the profession.
Duties and Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities:
1. Provide clinical assessment for students experiencing personal adjustment, vocational,
developmental and/or psychological problems.
2. Engage students in individual and group counseling to address personal adjustment,
vocational, developmental and/or psychological problems.
3. Develop, implement and evaluate community intervention programs/outreach services that: a)
help prevent problems, b) educate students, staff and faculty about mental health/psychological
issues and wellness, and c) teach skills for self-care and community health and safety.
4. Provide emergency and crisis intervention services (e.g., participate in the center's on-call
rotation including evenings and weekends).
5. Consult with university staff, faculty, students, family members and other professionals to
assist students.
6. Provide training and supervision to pre-professional students, e.g., College Student Personnel
Graduate Assistants. Provide educational opportunities for faculty, staff and students to enhance
their teaching, training and provision of services to other students, e.g. RA training.
7. Assess need for psychiatric evaluation/medication management and assist with referral.
8. Assist with referrals of students to resources on campus (e.g., referral to career services,
student health, etc.) and off campus (e.g., community mental health programs, community
clinicians).
9. Provide services consistent with professional ethical standards and generally accepted
standards of practice.
Administrative Responsibilities:
1. Maintain appropriate documentation of services and client records.
2. Contribute to the office's operational responsibilities, e.g., exercise appropriate stewardship of
center budget and resources, contribute to center-wide goals and projects, contribute to office
planning, assist with divisional and university responsibilities, etc.
3. Engage in professional development to maintain best practices and meet legal requirements
and professional guidelines for practice.
4. Engage in both need assessments and service outcome assessments/evaluations to support the
effectiveness and efficiency of services. Make appropriate changes in services based on
assessment findings.
5. Contribute to, provide direction for, and/or manage and administer projects assigned as part of
the center's annual goals or other center or divisional projects.
6. Serve on Divisional and University committees as appropriate.
7. Other administrative duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselor Education, or Social
Work. Licensed or license eligible in Pennsylvania. Experience working with college-age
students. Demonstrated competency in counseling and working with diverse populations.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. Ability to work evenings and
weekends, including participating in an on-call rotation.
