Improvement Team (SIT) in December
and January
• Color palettes leaned towards
“Creative” and “Energetic” moods
• Presented to DGS Executive Team in
February for approval to advance into
detailed design.

DESIGN UPDATE – MASCOT SELECTION
• Initial ideas developed by SIT with help from graphic artist
• Three final options presented Mascot options to 4th
, 5th
, 6th
grade
students at four Education Campuses (Brookland @ Bunker Hill,
Burroughs, Langdon, Noyes) at lunchtime meetings.
• Students voted to rank the options in order of preference
• Project team compiling votes to announce to students and community

• RFP issued(November) with five areas of interest
• Entry Plaza (Community)
• Atrium – likely hanging (Diversity)
• Outdoor Classroom (Sustainability)
• Michigan Ave (Brookland)
• Main Lobby (Performing Arts)
• 97 Response Entries from 52 artists (December)
• Selection panel, led by DGS Art Liaison, consists of
architects, DGS project manager, DCPS personnel, and SIT
• Next step: select semi-finalists for each area to draft ideas
• Artists likely to conduct community workshops

CBE AND WORKFORCE
• Local Business Participation (CBE)
• $22.4 out of $37.5M (60% ) of construction subcontracts have
been awarded to District CBE firms
• 16 CBE firms currently working on project
• 7 of those firms are located in Ward 5
• Local Workforce Utilization
• Approximately 40% of all workers to date DC residents
• 10 workers hired from jobsite walk-ups!!
