STEAMED UP DOUBLE GLAZING?Dont replace the Frames... just the Panes!

Cloudy2Clear Windows Service With A Smile! Its been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Aaron Smith feels that its all about service. Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But its not just

about saving people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didnt focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didnt expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole. Cloudy2Clear service Brighton, Hove & the surrounding areas

and Aaron is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. The truth is that its not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and

family of people Ive done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated. So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Aaron a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and hell be happy to help!

The summer holiday period can be an expensive time to entertain the family. But thanks to Gullys Days Out, an initiative for young people and adults with additional needs, members of the programme can enjoy free entry to some of Sussexs most popular attractions this summer and all the year round.

A birds eye view of the Gullys Days Out programme

We are proud to be part of Gullys Days Out, it is a unique project across Sussex. Last year, our employees helped more than 600 participants enjoy Gullys Days Out. Were looking forward to working with AITC to provide many more memorable days within our local community and across Sussex.

    Ivan MainprizeVice President, American Express

Launched in 2011, Gullys Days Out was set up by Albion in the Community (AITC) the charitable arm of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club - with principal partner American Express. The initiative was established to give young people and adults with additional needs the opportunity to experience many of Sussexs great attractions. Now entering its fifth year, with over 1,000 members and 26 generous attraction partners on board, it not only offers fun days out for participants, but provides invaluable respite for parents, guardians and carers.

Gullys Days Out is part of Realise the Potential of the Community (RTPC), a bespoke employee volunteer programme delivered by AITC and American Express. The multi-award winning RTPC programme was designed

to support the Sussex community in the areas of education, sports, disability, health and social inclusion.

Michael Edwards, CEO, AITC said: The Gullys Days Out programme has gone from strength to strength and is part of our commitment to supporting people across Sussex who have disabilities. The feedback we continue to receive from families that enjoy days out goes to show how much they mean to local people. The smiles you see on everyones faces, tell us we are doing something right. Its impossible to put a value on that. I would encourage anyone with a disability to consider becoming a member of Gullys Days Out especially families with disabled children who are looking for fun, new ways to enjoy the school holidays this summer.

    Volunteer support

Charles Batt, an American Express employee volunteer from West Worthing (pictured), has been involved in Gullys Days Out since it began. He said: Its great that we can take time out of our working day to support local community initiatives like this. What on the face of it looks like a fun day out, is much more than that for everyone involved. It provides an additional support network to parents and carers and as a volunteer, you get to develop a strong rapport with members and their families.

As the principal partner of the scheme, American Express support extends further than financial backing, more than 80 employees are involved in supported days out each year.

Every volunteer undertakes AITCs disability awareness training in advance of supporting the Gullys Days Out programme. The training is accredited by NCFE, a leading national awarding organisation for qualifications,

    apprenticeships and functional skills.

Earlier this year, more than 20 employees (pictured) undertook disability awareness training at the American Express Community Stadium. The training included basic British Sign Language (BSL), how to provide guiding support to a person with a visual impairment, use of a wheelchair and discussions on barriers faced by people with disabilities.

Since the programme started in 2011: 870 individuals and 140 organisations (such as local day centres)

have enjoyed the benefits of being a Gullys Days Out member

From 4 partners in 2011, there are now 26 attractions across Sussex that members can visit for free

There have been 165 supported days out at venues across the region

191 trained Amex employee volunteers have participated in Gullys Days Out

774 volunteer hours given by volunteers to support the programme

A birds eye view of the Gullys Days Out programme

Whether its enjoying all the fun of the fair at Brighton Pier, getting a spectacular view of the City on the Brighton Wheel, or a behind the scenes visit on the American Express Community Stadium tour, there are trips suitable for all ages, interests and abilities. Last year, almost 11,000 tickets were provided to more than 1,000 Gullys Days Out members.

Membership is open to anyone across Sussex with additional needs and can be taken out by an individual or an organisation (day centres and Special Educational Needs and Disability schools).

Participants can enjoy free admission to many of the regions most popular attractions along with friends, family members and carers.

Gullys Days Out fall into two categories: supported and non-supported days. Non-supported days provide complimentary tickets for admission to partner attractions/rides. At supported days, in addition to free entry, members and their guests are accompanied by trained AITC staff and volunteers from American Express.

In May, 20 members, family and friends, enjoyed a supported day out at Frankie & Bennys at Brighton Marina. Accompanied by AITC staff and Amex volunteers, participants became pizza chefs for the morning. They were able to select their favourite toppings for their individual

pizzas and once baked, got to enjoy eating them. A key partner since 2012, Frankie & Bennys (Brighton, Eastbourne and Chichester) support the Gullys Days Out programme by offering a pizza party each month, during February to November, for up to 20 Gullys Days Out participants.

Getting up close to the sea life

    Benefits of membership

The founding attraction partner of Gullys Days Out, SEA LIFE Brighton, is one of the most loyal supporters of the programme and most frequently requested days out by members. Highlights include seeing the piranhas, getting a snorkellers eye-view of huge turtles and tropical sharks from a glass bottomed boat and enjoying the educational talks and feeding demonstrations.

Max Leviston, General Manager, SEA LIFE Brighton, said: Working with Gullys Days Out is a pleasure. It provides us with the wonderful opportunity to see so many children and their families experiencing a memorable day out, who might not otherwise be able to.

Alexander Cabrera (pictured) is a 12 year old, enthusiastic member of Gullys Days Out. He and his mum and dad, Susie and Troy Cabrera, are regular participants and big fans of the programme. His dad Troy said: Gullys Days Out has been great for Alexander and for us too. Its so good for him to mingle with other children - it has brought out his confidence over the years.

Alexander has many highlights and one of his favourite days out has been at LaserZone.

One of the best things about Gullys Days Out for Alexanders parents is spending time with the parents of other children with additional needs. Troy explained: Everyone is in the same boat, which means we can all just enjoy the day. Many parents have experienced the challenges being faced by other parents. So Gullys Days Out presents an opportunity to get practical advice from parents who have been there and done that.

    Happiness is good business

Everyone wants to be happy - and research is now proving that happiness is something well worth pursuing in business too.

Studies show that there are many benefits of employees feeling good more often: better health, improved cognitive ability, stronger bonds with colleagues, increased resilience, and enhanced creativity are just a few.

At Bailey & French (www.baileyandfrench.com), we help organisations access these benefits through the science of positive psychology. Here are a few tools we use that any business can embrace:Focus on strengthsPositive psychology defines strengths as things were good at and that energise us; weaknesses are things were not so good at and that drain us. If were using weaknesses regularly, we end

up feeling tired, stressed, and miserable - leading to clichs like the Monday-morning blues. When were encouraged to discover and use our strengths more often, positivity and performance soars.Express gratitudeCultivating appreciation of what we have is a powerful tool for boosting positivity. A simple and effective way to harness this at work is to write thank-you letters or emails to colleagues.

Personalised and authentic notes of gratitude increase the engagement and motivation within a team hugely.Be mindfulMindfulness - awareness of the moment - has been proved to lower stress, enhance creativity, and help people collaborate more effectively. Even just taking a few moments to relax, notice your breathing and emotions, and check in with how your body feels has a beneficial effect and starts to undo the negative consequences of stress.

Eleanor Harris, chief executive of Brighton i360, said: Together, we will launch an exciting new networking event at the i360 aimed at business leaders from the Gatwick Diamond and London, launching in 2016.
