WHITEGATES - THE WINNING TEAM IN NOTTINGHAM!With a long established presence in the area,

Whitegates Estate Agency, based in Beeston goes fromstrength to strength in both the sales and lettingoperations of its business.Co-director Julian Divine explains their success: “The Nottingham office is operated and run by myself

and Denis Knight. We bought the franchise back in 1995,and to be honest, we couldn't have picked a worse time!

I know that nobody feels sorry for an estate agent butthe market was so depressed nothing was selling! The one thing we did learn though was how to sell aproperty, which may sound obvious, but when there areonly a few serious buyers you quickly learn to identifywho they are, listen to what they are saying and workreally hard to help them!

Right from the beginning we both knew that wewanted; a business to be proud of. First on the agendawas to offer the best customer service, (especially as welive locally!).  This mantra has enabled us to build a goodsolid reputation of which we are fiercely proud.  In factwe have just won a bronze award for best lettingsagency in the Midlands!

In 2000 we purchased the offices we now occupy, theyrequired so much work we had to lodge in the outbuildings while it was completed!  Now though we havecreated an environment that is great for us and also ourclients.

As we approach late 2012 we have a team of eightbright, enthusiastic staff.  We are experts in selling andletting properties across Nottingham, and utilise the latest technology to support our administration and marketing.

If you visit our website we hope you will enjoy reading our staff profiles and look forward to demonstrating to youthat (in the best tradition of estate agents) we are telling the truth!”Contact Whitegates Estate AgencyTelephone: 0115 922 2222156 High Road, Beeston, Nottingham NG9 2LNEmail: [email protected]

How to enjoy the Christmas seasonAre you feeling anxious at the thought ofthe holiday season? You are not alone. Dealing with the rush of parties, gift buying

and family expectations can lead to theholiday blues.

Think Hypno can help you prepare for andenjoy Christmas. As one of Sharrie’s clientssays “I have been able to reduce my stresslevels considerably and been given the toolsto continue this process for myself.”

Sharrie has provided some helpful tips forsurviving the holiday season:

• Family: don't expect miracles. If familymembers bicker all year, prepare for this in advance and avoidtopics that trigger arguments. • Loneliness: reach out to a friend, relative, or professional. There is nothing to be ashamed of and there are people willing tohelp. If you know someone who is on their own, reach out to themand you can be the person who makes a difference. • Relax: using deep breathing and hypnotherapy CDsand can help you control anxiety. • Sleep: lack of sleep is the fastest path to burnout.Compensate for the parties by planning in some early nights too.• Move: exercise provides a boost of mood-lifting hormones andgives you some alone time.• Humour: humour can be a tremendous help. Find the funny sideof stressful situations and it will help you get through them.

To contact Sharrie to find out how she can help you call 0115 9728222 / 07870 417621 or email: [email protected]. Further information is available on the website www.thinkhypno.co.uk

On the 12th December 2000 when Beverley lookedback on her year, she decided it was time to change. Herspecial gift and ability needed to be put into somethingthat would create more support, energy, and be helpingthe public that needed it. Her decision was to aim to comeup with a plan that felt acceptable to Beverley to give and receive energy butcontinue to help others at the same time.

Beverley decided to leave her current industry- that she was externally fruitful -and put her energies into her gift that felt so natural to her Medium ship and Workon her new company creating energy for people less fortunate than herself.

Beverley began to receive money for her special gift and moved forward todeveloping her concept of ‘Ask the Question & Zodiac’. We donated 30 % of ourreaders money to a chosen charity. Our first charity was the Alzheimer society andour second was to the children's hospice for Leukaemia.

We are now working towards helping families less fortunate than ourselves. Ourfirst project in this area is about a young 7 year old girl Joanne who has lost theuse of her leg's and is waiting to undergo an operation. Her father died last yearwith a Brain Tumor and her brother is Autistic. We believe as a team that we arenot only supporting people in need with their own personal problem's. But usingour energies to help better someone's life.

We have worked as a group giving one to one readings, working in churches anddoing public demonstrations around the globe and we are now offering ourservices to you the public. Providing you with quality yet affordable readings.

Commencing and launching our service in the USA with have now brought thisproduct to the UK online.

We will offer you a high standard of Live Tarot readings where you will find theanswers to all your needs. Remember we have all been lost at some point in our

Next StopBeeston and Chilwell If you have visited Beeston town centre recently you can’t help but notice somechanges which are starting to take place.

The changes are part of a multi-million project to extend the tram to Beeston andChilwell. If you would like to find out more, evening drop-in information sessions areplanned to take place in December to keep you update, but below is some briefinformation about the progress of the project so far.

Site clearance and demolition work along the tram route are almost complete and the vast majority of works currently taking placeinvolve moving the different types of utility services away from the tram route.

Once utility services have been moved, the main tram infrastructure works, such as laying the tram tracks and installing tram stopsand other equipment can start.

You may also have seen works associated with the tram are taking place to widen the junction of Queens Road and Meadow Lane, and once complete, works will take place at the Queens Road/Station Road junction. This will improve road capacity along theA6005 and provide an alternative route to Chilwell Road which will be subject to the tram works throughout 2013.

Overall the construction of the tram extensions, which will also go to Clifton, is expected to take approximately three years tocomplete.

Evening drop-in information sessions are to be held in Chilwell, at Eskdale Junior School on Tuesday 4th December, and in Beeston,at the Town Hall on Thursday 13th December. Come along and find out the latest tram construction news.

For more information visit: www.thetram.net/phasetwo or call: 0115 924 24 54.

breeze what’s on The festive spirit has come early to the Nottingham Arts Theatre with aflamboyantly dressed cast from the People’s Theatre Company. Thisyears pantomime treat is the magical fairy tale Puss In Boots and thecast are enjoying a fun atmosphere during their energetic rehearsals. The main challenge for the company is not laughing at the jokes in thescript written by Amanda Hall, Director, Oh yes it is!!!

The award winning People’s Theatre Company have received outstandingreviews from top critics based at the Nottingham Post, Nottingham HospitalsRadio and Left Lion to mention but a few.

“Our cast have a wide variety of talents, which include acting, singing, dancingand speaking with accents. First time Baddie Roy Smith takes to the stage as the horrible Ogre Grog although he has previously appeared in five consecutive pantomimes in choral and comedy roles at the theatre. Fairy Bluebell (Hannah Rogers-Gee) will be at hand though to keep him in check.

Don't miss our tale as we follow the adventures of John Miller, his brothers Wayne and Will, his sister Glenda and mother Dame Maxine Miller who is also cook to the King. Oh and of course how can we forget our hero, John's pet cat Puss.

In this rags to riches tale John tries to win the hand of the beautiful Princess Jayne but only if he can defeat the nasty Ogre and his Horrible Henchman Horace who are terrorising the land.Join us to see if John and Puss can take on the challenge!”

Happy Birthday Breeze

Tools of the trade.Whilst we start to enterthe relatively quiet timeof gardening it may betime to take a look atyour hard worn garden

tools and see if there isanything you may want to

put on your Christmas list!

The range of garden tools is bewildering and every year new onesare introduced promising great things to all mankind! What, though, really matters when we come to choose the basic but

essential instruments of our hobby? After all, if we don’t use our barehands to dig etc then we must surely notice a difference between abetter tool as different from a so one?

Quite apart from how long your investment in a given instrumentwill last (think about the old one of the ‘false economy’ when buyingtoo cheaply) there is, for many of us, a feeling of satisfaction in usingsomething which clearly bears the marks of care in it’s design andmanufacture - all helping to make the physical aspects of the hobby alittle easier and more enjoyable somehow.

Some tips on what to look out for:Try to buy tools made from forged metal due to it being tempered toalign the particles, giving it tensile strength. Tools pressed from sheetmetal are weak and lends themselves to corrosion.

Good quality handles made from ash or fibre-reinforced resin will be

much stronger. Always trythem for comfort, fit andease of handling beforebuying. Many tools for use inthe standing position havehandles that tend to be tooshort which can cause backache, e.g spades and forks.

For small hand tools selectones which have brighthandles so that they will beeasier to spot among foliageor against the darker soil.

For wheelbarrows, choose apneumatic tyre type as solid tyres are difficult to get over theslightest bump - like a cheap bicycle wheel is.

Main items usedSpades: The spade should be the correct weight and many of thespades sold are much too short for some of us taller gardeners, soconsider replacing the handle with a longer one from a hardwareshop.

The blade may be a long narrow one for heavy stoney ground orwider, shorter ones for lighter soil. Look for a forged blade set at aslight angle, not straight in profile nor made of pressed steel, ie.folded out of sheet metal.

The choice between carbon and stainless steel is down to frequencyof use. If yours spends most of its time in the shed the stainless onewill stay smooth and will pass better through the soil. A thin layer ofrust will form on the surface of the ordinary steel one when left forany length of time, and will tend to clog up with soil during use.

(continues...)

breezemagazine 36

ForkStainless steel does not have an advantage over carbon steel as a little rust on the tines (theindividual forks) will not matter here due to the smaller surface area in contact with the soil soby all means get yourself a good quality carbon steel one as it will probably last longer andmay be more resistant to bending. As with the spade there are two main sizes - a digging fork and a smaller border fork. Thesmaller size is sometimes referred to as a 'lady's fork' as it is easier to handle, but is useful foruse by gents as well!

Hand Trowel/ForkStainless steel is probably best as the blade stays cleaner and is easier to spot if left lyingaround. Choose one made from forged metal rather than pressed steel as pressed steel willbend easily and frustrate you as you get the hand pliars out time and time again! Look for agood comfortable handle - some have soft ‘gel’ grips now - and in bright colours!

HoeThe blade of both types should always be sharp to cleanly sever the top growth from theroots - a good sharpening stone will suffice for this purpose and can be used at various timesduring the year to ‘top up’ the edge.

Care for your toolsHow often have you come back to your garden tasks only to find a claggy spade, looking

very sorry for itself and demanding immediate cleaning before you can even start? Let’s faceit, many of us like to just ‘put things away’ rather than clean down and then put everythingaway all tidy - it’s another task. This task though is important if you want to keep slicing edgesclean on spades and forks smoothly functioning etc.

Along with basic cleaning with water so no soil remains you can also remember not to leavethem outdoors where the metal will rust and wooden handles will rot. A rub over with an oilyrag will preserve the metal. Wooden handles will last longer and be more pleasant to hold ifgiven a rub with boiled linseed oil occasionally (linseed oil is not expensive anyway).

If you are thinking of buying a garden tool as a gift for someone (and why not - they may notbother to ‘treat themselves otherwise!) then consider where you buy from so they can swap itif needs be. So, keep on top of your tools so they help you. Happy Gardening!

STRUGGLING WITH JOBS AROUND THE HOME?Those smaller jobs around that the home are often thesubject of our dissatisfaction. On the one hand we feel weought to be able to do them ourselves but on the other hand we realise (if we arehonest with ourselves!) that we either haven’t got the spare time, are just too busy‘getting on with life’ or are simply unable to as we have aged.

“If only we knew somebody to just do this or do that” I get told by some of mycustomers, who have decided to finally get help from me” says Graham of SwiftDIY Services.“I am geared up to do those jobs that somehow get left and can cause real upset.

Perhaps a reminder of what we can’t or don’t do. It really isn’t necessary thoughto simply put up with things as they are and feel despondent as I can be thatperson who you need to get the job done and without paying a small fortune - infact affordability is one of the main aspects of my business”.

Graham realised that there was a market for the type of help that he offers anddecided it was time to act and set up his business over a year ago. Since then hehas gained a steady flow of work through repeated contact with his customerswho have been impressed by the quality of his work and his friendliness.“I don’t charge silly prices and I always show respect for my customers. In returnthey are very loyal towards me and I often see them again soon for ‘that other job’they needed doing the first time round!Contact Graham on 07734 902951 or 0115 9469690

WANT TO MAKE YOUR SOLAR PV SAVE YOU EVEN MORE?Andrew Grattage is pleased to be one of the first in the UK tooffer a bill reducing new unit called GEM that helps you create free hot water!

Andrew explains: “Micro-generation systems such as solar PV) are at their mostefficient when all of the energy produced is used at the point of generation, i.e. withinthe household where the generator is sited. This results in the minimum possible useof imported energy. This new and automatic system works even whilst you are out of the house. The GEM

(Generated Energy Management system) does this is by storing excess generatedenergy as heat in a hot water cylinder, rather than allowing it to be exported to thegrid. Every unit of power used to heat the hot water in this way reduces importedenergy by the same amount resulting in a significant saving in imported energy costs.

Why you get the extra savings with GEM:Here is the real good news: Because export energy is not metered but assumed

to be 50% of all energy generated you still continue to get the export tariffon half of all units generated by your system even if GEM ensures that no energy isactually exported! GEM is, in effect, a double saving because you still get paid for your installed solar PV

as well as getting your hot water costs reduced. This is the time to get saving with thisfantastic and very clever device which I can now install for you” Contact Andrew Grattage on 07889 247939 and knock those bills back down now!

HAS YOUR DOG GOT ARTHRITIS?It’s the time of year when it gets coldand wet and this is when arthriticjoints often feel worse. This is just as true for dogs as it is for

people. Signs that your dog has arthritis varyfrom one to another. Some of thecommoner signs might be:

• Slowness on getting up after lying down

• Not being able to jump into the back of the car unassisted

• Walking more slowly • Lying down at every opportunity• Licking at a particular joint such

that the hair changes colour

Arthritis hurts and all of the above are signs of pain. Some dogs mayeven get a bit grumpy because of the discomfort.Studies show that most people with arthritic dogs do not recognisethat their dogs are in pain. This is a shame because arthritic pain can be very successfully treated

in most dogs and those that are treated will enjoy a greatly improvedquality of life.

Churchcroft Vets are keen to help make sure all the affected dogs areidentified so that they can be helped. To encourage owners of elderly dogs to check whether they have

arthritic pain, Churchcroft will examine any dog over seven years oldfor signs of arthritis FOR FREE any time in November.

If you have a suspicion that your elderly pooch is slowing down or if you just want to make sure he is fine, give Churchcroft a call on 0115 922 4855 and ask for a FREE arthritis check. There’s no harm in checking after all!

Making yourmind up regarding others does nottake long, putting an end to thematter. Financial matters andcatching up with neglectedpaperwork is sorted putting yourmind at rest.

Chilly mornings, swirling mists, wetroads and steamed upcar windows. Autumn in all its glorious colours isalready well established and these are the signs thatour world is closing down to rest over the wintermonths to gather strength for the following spring.Time too for us all to pay attention to our bodies, especially our feet. Marion Mortimer is just the person to call...

Getting into a cold car, for instance, it’s lovely to turn upthe heater and toast our toes in the warmth. Havingmentioned chilblains in a previous issue, I stress again atthis time of year that extremes of heat and cold are acontributing factor. Our bodies are generally good atadapting to varying temperatures but as time goes by, webecome a little less efficient at dealing with rapid changes.

“Last winter, I saw an even greater number of patientswith chilblains and without a doubt, it is far better to getahead of the game now by making sure that you payspecial attention to your feet. Warm socks andcomfortable shoes or boots making sure they are not tootight or your circulation could become compromised.

Embark on a rich foot cream massage which will not onlymoisturise hard skin areas but also help to stimulate agood blood supply to heels and toes.

This lovely cream massage is best done on going to bedso that you avoid the danger of slipping on hard floors, whilst overnight, the cream can get on with its work whileyou sleep. It really is worth the effort and you will enjoythe fruits of your labour by paying attention to your hardworking and grateful feet.

Check your dietary intake now which should includeplenty of fruit, oily fish and vegetables. Perhaps a multivitamin boost is appropriate, you could check this out withyour GP, especially if you are taking other medicines.Call Marion on 0115 939 3662 and book your

TAKING CONTROL OF ANXIETYMartin J Smith PhD Leading local psychotherapist discusses some ofthe many concerns about negative anxiety and how to effectivelytreat it.Anxiety is like stress, there are good and bad forms, we often decide in

ourselves if we have positive excitement about things such as work orrelationships or if we have anxiety and are stressed by these things. If westop to think about it the actual feeling state is very similar and this canoften be a problem.

As we start to suffer from negative anxiety and stress we begin to losethe ability to differentiate the positive from negative. Anxiety anddepression often go hand in hand and it can be easy to see why. Webegin to attach a sense of negative anxiety to all that we do and simplylose the ability to feel OK.

Once this negative spiral begins to form it becomes almost automaticand we find ourselves becoming well practiced at seeing everything wedo and everything around us in a negative light. Taking back control canbe very difficult if we are trying to do it alone, the task can be far easier ifwe are willing to allow others to help. Family and friends can assist, butmore specialist assistance can turn things around faster than people firstrealise.

Martin Smith specialises in helping people with issues around anxiety.Even in the first session Martin works to help people become more awareof how anxiety works and how it can pull us down so quickly andeffectively. By giving some answers and setting some simple yetpowerful tasks in the very first session, Martin helps people to begin tostop the downward spiral and allows them to regain control of their life.

Martin firmly believes that anxiety and depression should not rulepeoples lives and has worked with many client’s to break the negativecycle that so often engulf them and all aspects of their lives. To see what he can do to help you or a family member, call in directon 07 973 410 010 to make an appointment. You can also email [email protected] for more information. Martin does appointments at times to suit including evenings andweekends so call him down and start to take control.
