BREAKING BARRIERS AND RECEIVING CHRIST’S MIND

Introduction:implant , secure, operate.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world ,

but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

HOW??? The Word of God The Spirit of God The Community of Believers/Be Discipled

Jesus answered with Scripture

1. Luke 4: And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit…

2. Luke 4:4 “It is written , Man shall not live on bread alone.”( Deut 8:3)

3. Luke 4:8 “ It is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.”

( Deut 6:13)4. Luke 4:12 “It is said, You shall not force a

test on the Lord your God.” ( Deut 6:6)

Satan Quoted Scripture Luke 4:9-11 And he led him to Jerusalem

and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him ,”If You are the Son of God , cast Yourself down from here; for it is written, ‘He will give His angles charge concerning you to guard you.’ and, ‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’ “(Psalm 9:11,12)

Page 5: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

James 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well;

the demons also believe, and shudder.

Page 6: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Who bewitched you? Galatians 3:1, 3, 5. Who has bewitched

you before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?

…having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected in the flesh?

Does He then who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you , do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?

Page 7: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Word of God is Alive The Word became flesh and made his

dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father , full of grace and truth . John 1:14

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Page 8: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

The Holy Spirit But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit , whom the Father

will send in my name , will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26

Those who live according to the flesh have their

minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death , but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:5,6

John 15 Abide in the Vine “I AM THE VINE ;YOU ARE THE

BRANCHES. IF YOU REMAIN IN ME AND I IN YOU, YOU WILL BEAR MUCH FRUIT ; APART FROM ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING.”

Page 11: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Romans 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him

through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father , so that we too might walk in newness of life.

ROMAN II page 10-1 “baptized with His baptism of self sacrifice and be buried with Him in death to self”

Instruments of Purification I.O.P.

“But let us not be discouraged. Let us look upon every brother who tries or vexes us , as God’s means of grace, God’s instrument for our purification, for our exercise of the humility Jesus our life breathes within us. And let us have such faith in the all of God, and the nothing of self, that , as nothing in our own eyes, we may , in God’s power , only seek to serve one another in love.”

Andrew Murray, HUMILITY Chapter 6

Page 13: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Galatians 6:14-17 But may it never be that I should boast,

except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither is circumcision anything , nor is uncircumcision anything , but a new creation . And those who will walk by this rule , peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.

Dying to SelfAndrew Murray

Divine love is perfect peace and joy. It is also the freedom from all disquiet, and brings a deep sense of contentment and happiness. In natural man is nothing but the working of every kind of evil. Covetousness, envy, pride, and wrath are the four elements of self, inseparably bound together. If we were more aware of what real good( or real evil) could work within us , we would be much more afraid of harboring these serpents of evil within us –even more afraid that being cast into a dungeon of venomous beasts.

Page 15: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Barrier 1 Put Christ first. John the Baptist They came to John and said to him, “ Rabbi,

the man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan ----the one you testified about-- look, he is baptizing , and everyone is going to him.”

“He must become greater; I must become less.”

Page 16: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Philippians 2:3- Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.

Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather , he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross.

Page 17: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

I John 2:3- We know that we have come to know him

if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “ I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him : Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Page 18: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

How did Jesus live? “For I have come down from heaven not to do

my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” John 6:38

Then I said, ‘Here I am– it is written about me in the scroll—I have come to do your will, my God.’

Other references to the same: John 5:19, 30 John 8:28 John 12:49-50 John 14:10

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations..

baptizing them in the name of the father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you ; and lo, I am with you , even to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20.

Page 20: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Make Disciples When Jesus walked among humankind, there

was a certain simplicity to being a disciple. Primarily it meant to go with him , in an attitude of study , obedience , and imitation. There were no correspondence courses . One knew what to do and what it would cost. Family and friends were deserted for long periods to go with Jesus as he walked from place to place announcing , showing , and explaining the governance of God.

Dallas Willard, The Spirit of the Disciplines.

Page 21: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Revelation 3:15-21 I know your deeds , that you are neither

hot nor cold; I would that you were hot or cold. So, because you are lukewarm , and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.

Page 22: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Hot or Cold ..These are the words of the Amen, the

faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds , that you are neither cold nor hot . I wish you were either one or the other. Revelation 3: 14

Hot water of Hierapolis or the cold water of Colossae?

Page 23: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

What about Hot, What about Cold?

Hot water is… offering comfort to a hurting person, soothing words to the grieving, visiting the sick or those in prison. Exhibiting healing warmth and the kindness of Christ.

Cold water ….uplifts , encourages, refreshes, energizes, blesses. Offers the right word at the right time in a way that lets people go on and feel renewed.

Page 24: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Waiting is Worship Psalm 62:5 My soul, waits patiently for God alone,

my expectation is from Him. Isaiah 64:4 Since ancient times no one has heard ,

no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

Page 25: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Waiting1.For provision: “These all wait for YOU, that

you may give them their food in due season.” Psalm 104:27.

2. For instruction: Show me your ways; O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me , for you are the God of my salvation ; on you I wait all day. Psalm 25:4-5.

3. For all the saints: Let know one who waits on you be ashamed. Psalm 25:2

Page 26: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Waiting4. For strength: Wait on the Lord; be of good

courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait , I say , on the Lord! Psalm 27:14

5. For a new song: I waited patiently fro the Lord ; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He has put a new song in my mouth; praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:1,3

Page 27: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Romans 8:25- 26a But if we hope for what we do not see,

with perseverance we wait eagerly for it. And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the heart knows what the mind of the Spirit is , because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Page 28: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Through the Holy Spirit/Not just through Intellect

…they imagine that the Spirit , in teaching them , must reveal the mysteries of the spiritual life first to their intellect, and afterwards in their experience. And God’s way is just the contrary of this . What holds true of all spiritual truth is especially true of abiding in Christ: we must live and experience truth in order to know it.

Receive what you do not comprehend, submit to what you cannot understand , accept and expect what to reason appears a mystery, believe what looks impossible, walk in a way that you know not ---such are the first lessons in the school of God.

ABIDE IN CHRIST, Andrew Murray

Page 29: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

John 5:38-40 And you do not have His word abiding in

you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent. You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me.

Page 30: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

Romans 8:25-28 But if we hope for what we do not have, we

wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercede for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for Gods people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

His heart As he approached the town gate, a dead

person was being carried out– the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. When the Lord saw her , his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.” Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on , and the bearers stood still. He said , “ Young man, I say to you , get up!” Luke 7:13.

…and tell you lies.

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23

Blessing Definition Blessing is an act of faith that originates in the

heart of God. When we bless we are declaring that we believe in the unseen power of the Word of God. As believers, we have been blessed to be a blessing. The miracle of blessing is that the Sovereign Lord gives us the words to bless, the way to bless and the mandate to bless. He provides , motivates , equips and sustains us to be a blessing. This is the mystery and the celebration of faith . We have the privilege of participating in what He in totality has created. He provides , we willingly participate , and as a result we are blessed.

Silver Amulets OLDEST KNOWN FRAGMENTS OF THE BIBLE

In 1979 two small rolled pieces of silver were discovered in Jerusalem. When the little scrolls were carefully unrolled researchers found words from the book of Numbers inscribed into the silver, written in characters from an ancient Hebrew script. The scrolls contain the text of the Priestly Benediction ( Numbers 6)!

Page 47: Breaking barriers and receiving Christ’s mind

The dating of the silver amulets

Tests carried out in NASA laboratories confirm that these words were written around 600B.C. in the days when Solomon’s Temple still stood on the Jerusalem mountain.
