    Example Elevations and Styles

Individual Site Plan4th Street-Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. 10-Unit Housing Development

This board was created to be used as a proposal document for an individual looking to purchase and develop property in Mid-town, Detroit. I was asked to develop a master plan of the block, a typical one unit site plan, a whole block elevation line drawing, and examples of the they style the client wanted to mimic.

The City of Ferndale asked the team of 4 to look into the idea of taking out some park-ing at the Civic Center and turning it into a more green civic space for people to enjoy as what one city executive described as an adult playground. They also asked the team to look at sprucing up a small, dull park down 9 Mile Rd from the Civic Center. The new Civic Center plan replaces unnecessary parking spaces with green space, a small stage with a backdrop/projection screen, and a trellis structure at a slightly raised elevation. Schiffer Park replaces two adjacent street parking spots with a bioswale to manage storm water from the street and provide the area with more greenery than pavement.

After our presentation to 3 city officials at the time of our final in December of 2014, our group was asked to present our ideas to the Ferdale City Council meeting on March 22, 2015. From the feedback that the city officials gave us in December, we were able to make revisions on our original design. In our second iteration, we eliminated all of the parking to expand the green space as well as adding ornamental, glowing swings and a large reader-board. This board could show movies, provide a backdrop for concerts and ceremonies, display community information, and scroll through local and national news at the time. The back side of the board would be fitted with PV panels to power the screen. Additional renderings were able to be generated after our semester had ended to complement our original plans and renderings.

This project was a large mixed-use structure on Woodward Ave. in Midtown Detroit. The project included an existing plan for a Lawrence Tech building on the site accompanied with an office/studio for Studio Ci, around 20 live-work housing units, a headquarters for the Detroit Mass Sharing System, and ground floor retail spaces. The building also integrated Rain Harvesting and Grey Water systems along with a bioswale to teach visitors about the processes of the systems and environmental aware-ness as a whole. The building includes large public spaces inside and outside of the structure.

    St. Paul of the Cross

This project is an addition to the St. Pauls campus and focused on sustainable design and community engagement. It is designed as a meditation center for group, individual, and alternate meditation to take place outside the existing chapel while engaging more of the Brightmoor neighborhood and surrounding community by expanding the capabilities and capacity of the retreat center. The team of 5 designed an open plan to allow changes in the future, but the current plan contains individual spaces and a hall for meditaion or gatherings, a reading room, and flexible space that can be used for multiple types of activities. Outside of the structure, there is an orchard and vegetable and herb gardens, a pond that ties into the Rain Harvesting system for the building, and a nature walk throughout the grounds including an overlook along the Rouge River.

The program includes a boutique hotel, Michigan Central Station history museum, a microbrewery, and a restaurant. The CPA Building was to be renovated and given a unique flair while preserving the historic facades to an extent and adding new construction in the adjacent lot. The brew-pubs 3 large overhead doors open up to engage the Michigan Ave. outdoor seating with the interior and creating a welcoming feeling while the angle of the facade faces directly across the street to the historic Michigan Central Station. The openings in the second floor allow people on both floors to engage with each other while being separated.

The program for the mixed occupancy Headquarters for the Friends of the Detroit River includes a large event hall, lecture hall, and an office for the Friends of the Detroit River. The studios focus was on a comprehensively designed building, from the broadest concept to the smallest detail, everything was to be thought out and designed. The site at 2929 Biddle Avenue is amid Wyandottes downtown and features a large balcony overlooking the Detroit River and a unique roof over the event hall that consists of windows that face due south to capture natural light. The Biddle Ave. facade has a louver system on the second floor to keep unwanted direct sunlight out of the building.
