Despite losses in the 1st 2 games of the current set, the Sox own the best record in the Majors against the Tigers since the start of the 2008 campaign at 19-9 (.679)...It is Boston’s best mark against any AL club in that time.

IT’S BEEN AWHILE: The Sox were shut out by the Tigers 10-0 yesterday...It marked the 1st time the Red Sox have been held scoreless by Detroit and lost by as many as 10 runs since a 13-0 loss on 7/28/1948 at DET in which Dizzy Trout went the distance for the Tigers...Overall, the last time Boston was shut out by as many as 10 runs was a 10-0 loss to Texas on 9/2/11 at Fenway Park.

The Sox dropped to 31-40-1 all-time in the 72 times they have opened on the road, having won 2 of their last 9 and 6 of their last 13 such tilts...Including this year, Boston has opened on the road 14 of the last 17 seasons beginning in 1996 with a 6-8 record in those games.
