Stage 1: Discovery

Your Boost ITIL consultant will spend a minimum of two days

with the senior members of the ICT Team (and other stakehold-

ers) to introduce or refresh their knowledge of the 5 phases of

ITIL. The outputs from this stage are:

An understanding of how the 5 ITIL phases and 4 ITIL func-

tions map onto the current ICT Team structure.

Agreement on which of the 30 ITIL processes need to be for-

mally adopted, then prioritised according to business need.

Agreement on key roles, responsibilities, information systems

and governance structures required to support ITIL imple-

mentation and principles.

Stage 2: Training

Based on the outputs from Stage 1, your Boost ITIL consultant

will design and deliver a training session for each specialist group

in the ICT team. So, for example, In addition to a general appre-

ciation of the 5 ITIL phases, the Service Desk group would be giv-

en a more in-depth understanding of the Service Operation

phase; the Service Desk ITIL function and the 5 Service Operation

processes. In addition, they will be given an appreciation of any

relevant key roles and responsibilities etc., from the Discovery

stage.

The training session for each group (up to 8 persons) will nor-

mally require 2-3 working days. The outputs from this stage are:

An energised and engaged ICT team who understand the

benefits to themselves and the wider business from imple-

menting ITIL.

An understanding of how the 5 ITIL phases and 4 ITIL func-

tions map onto the current ICT Team structure.

An understanding of which ITIL processes are to be imple-

mented and owned by their ICT team group, individual own-

ership and the priorities for introduction.

An understanding of the key roles, responsibilities, infor-

mation systems and governance structures supporting ITIL

implementation and principles.

An appreciation of the support tools provided in the ITIL

toolkit, for example the RACI matrix.

Please note, as these are practical rather than theoretical train-

ing sessions they are not suitable for staff wishing to gain ITIL

qualifications.

Stage 3: Implementation

Optionally, based on the outputs from Stage 1 and the feedback

from Stage 2, your Boost ITIL consultant can design programme

and project plans for implementing all the agreed functions, pro-

cesses and support structures; prepare strategic reports and

presentations for executives or boards. If required, support can

be provided in specific areas, for example designing the service

catalogue; selecting new Service Desk management software,

etc. The outputs and amount of consultancy time required in this

stage is totally flexible dependent on your needs and your appe-

tite for managing the implementation in-house.

Stage 4: Review and Refresh

We recommend that your Boost ITIL consultant returns for a day

at regular intervals (every 3 to 6 months) or on an ad hoc basis

to review progress with the ICT senior managers. At these meet-

ings we can discuss any bottlenecks and how to remove them;

tweaks to improve existing processes etc.; timetables and poten-

tial support for implementing deferred processes; and the need

for any further training, for example, new starters.

The advantages of the Boost IT M2M approach

It can cost up to £7,700 + VAT to send a single team member

on a 3-day ITIL Foundation course plus a further 15 days to

cover the 5 ITIL phases. Using the Boost IT M2M process it

can cost less to provide focussed training across the whole

ITIL lifecycle for a team of 16!

Training and implementation of ITIL is clearly focussed

around the needs of your ICT team and your organisation.

Flexibility, practical pace and timescales are consistently

adopted.

Your Boost IT consultant is experienced in providing quality IT

services and full implementation of the ITIL lifecycle in a

working business environment.
